Over the past couple months, we’ve reported on a few cameos being made in Paul Feig‘s reboot of Ghostbusters by cast members of the original 1984 paranormal comedy. However, this hasn’t been something that has pleased us.
We would much rather these cameos were surprises when seeing the movie. But when all the trades, blogs and Ghostbusters fans are spreading the news like wildfire without any regard for spoilers, it doesn’t make much sense for us to try to keep it secret.
And director Paul Feig has succumbed to this same problem as he has just revealed on Twitter that…
Sigourney Weaver has joined the cavalcade of original cast members making Ghostbusters reboot cameos next summer.
Here’s the Twitter update from Paul Feig:
Gang, trying to keep surprises but this is about to leak, so I'll tell you myself: the awesome Sigourney Weaver is going to be in our movie!

You might be thinking that our frustration with the revelation of these cameos seems unfounded since Feig himself is now the one putting information about this particular appearance out there. But as his tweet says, this information was about to leak, so he’s only putting it out there to beat the scoop to the punch.
Earlier this week Paul Feig took to Twitter to confront some of the frequent haters and complainers who keep lashing out online about the Ghostbusters reboot. But he also made sure everyone knew that the cameos from original Ghostbusters cast members were supposed to be surprises, but they were leaked by the trades:
I only announced @Ernie_Hudson as a cameo because our set was overrun by paparazzi. I really wanted these cameos to be surprises. Just FYI.

Sadly, this is just the world we live in now, when movie sets are shooting out in broad daylight for anyone to snap pictures. It’s a shame that some secrets just can’t remain secrets. We do our best not to spoil cool stuff like this, but the rest of the internet makes it hard for outlets to keep their mouths shut and be relevant and topical at the same.
Anyway, Sigourney Weaver joins Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson (who shot on the final day of production last weekend) in the Ghostbusters reboot, all making brief appearances. In addition, it has also been confirmed that Annie Potts, the Ghostbusters’ secretary, will appear as well. The trades keep mentioning uncertainty as to whether they are playing their characters from the original movie, but since this reboot has no narrative ties to the original, that just won’t be possible.
Our fingers are crossed that Rick Moranis also pops up in the reboot at some point, or at the very least that someone doesn’t spoil the fact that he has a cameo in the movie. But since he’s essentially retired from acting, unlike everyone else, we won’t hold our breath. Hopefully this will be the last Ghostbusters cameo that gets spoiled out there.Cool Posts From Around the Web:
