'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' 7pm Screenings Scheduled The Day Before Release

Earlier this week, we posted a rumor about when the tickets to Star Wars: The Force Awakens would go on sale. That date still hasn't been officially confirmed by Disney, although Melbourne's IMAX theatre has since posted that tickets are expected to go on sale in late October. However, another detail within my report has now been validated. Hit the jump to find out more about the possible Force Awakens 7pm screenings.

In the story, I wrote the following:

The Star Wars: The Force Awakens release date of December 18, 2015 (in the US) doesn't necessarily mean that the first screenings will be at midnight the night before. As you've probably noticed, studios have begun allowing theaters to start their premiere shows at 7:00pm the night before for many event movies. We're not sure if this means Disney will allow the first screenings at 7:00pm on December 17th 2015, or not.

I din't have any insider information, this is just a practice that has happened with big event movies over the last few years, but its usually up to the discretion of the studio. But it looks like we have confirmation that Disney will be allowing (at least some) theaters to screen the movie the night before the scheduled December 18th 2015 release date.

/Film reader Jerry S was able to confirm with Sacramento's Esquire IMAX theatre that the first screenings for Star Wars: The Force Awakens will take place at 7:00pm on the day before the posted release date:

We don't know if all movie theaters will have screenings the night before at 7:00pm, but it appears at very least some IMAX theaters will. I think its safe to assume that most multiplexes will be given the same first screening time. So mark your calendars for 7:00pm on December 17th 2015, as thats when we will all see Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the first time on the big screen.
