First Footage From 'Terminator Genisys' Teases Big Things For The Franchise

Thursday brings the first trailer for Alan Taylor's Terminator Genisys, a film many are hoping launches a whole new era in the Terminator franchise. Arnold Schwarzenegger is back as the iconic T-800 but all the rest of the characters – Sarah Connor, John Connor, Kyle Reese etc. – have been recast in a movie that, rumor has it, takes place in a parallel time line to the original film series.

In advance of that trailer, Paramount has releases a 15-second teaser for the trailer. Usually, these suck, but this one not only provides our first actual look at footage from the July a release, but also some incredibly tantalizing shots for any fan of the Terminator series. Check out the first Terminator Genisys footage below.

Here's the Terminator Genisys tease.

First Terminator Genisys Footage

First up, we see a T-1000 and it looks very much like Robert Patrick. Not exactly, but very close. Next we see a bunch of people surrounding a large machine that has similar lightning to the time travel apparatus we've seen in the other movies. Odds are, this is our first glimpse at what that apparatus – so crucial to the franchise –  looks like. Then we see missiles flying all over the surface of the globe. This, of course, looks like Judgement Day. The day the machines finally got self aware and attacked the humans. And then, finally, it's Schwarzenegger with his human tissue removed revealing that unforgettable endo-skeleton arm.

How do all of these things add up? We'll hopefully be able to figure it out Thursday when we see the first trailer for Terminator Genisys.

Terminator Genisys opens July 1, 2015 and is directed by Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World). It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator from the first three films, Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, Jason Clarke as John Connor, JK Simmons as some kind of cop and Matt Smith and Byung-Hun Lee in mystery roles.
