A week after a lavish wrap party for the cast and crew that saw Mark Hamill taking selfies with everything that has a pulse and dancing Stormtroopers doing their thing on stage, Star Wars: Episode 8 has officially wrapped production. All that remains now is a year and a half of post-production. And the inevitable reshoots, because that’s a luxury Lucasfilm can afford.
In the meantime, you can watch a quick video from the set commemorating the completion of principal photography. And maybe director Rian Johnson can go nap for three days.
The news of production wrapping arrived on the official Star Wars Facebook page, where a video of the production’s final slate was posted. They mark the occasion with a comically oversized novelty slate because that’s also a luxury Lucasfilm can afford.
The video also included a statement from Johnson, which is gracious and kind and all of the other adjectives you want to include in a celebratory message after wrapping one of the biggest movie productions of all time:
Final slate of the final shot. VIII is officially wrapped. Thanks to the best cast and crew in the galaxy, and thanks to the fans for all the love and support though the whole process. Cannot wait to put it together and share it with you all!
Star Wars: Episode 8 is set to open on December 15, 2017, so it would probably be a good idea to find a comfortable chair because it’s going to be some time yet. And since the wrap announcement didn’t include the reveal of the film’s title, we still have that to look forward to. In the meantime, we can set our gaze on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which opens on December 16, 2016.Cool Posts From Around the Web:
