We may not know who is directing Marvel’s Doctor Strange yet, but we now have an idea how it’ll fit in the realistic Marvel Cinematic Universe. Stephen Strange is a mystical character who uses powers on Earth that wouldn’t seem to fit in with the world of Captain America, Iron Man and the Hulk. In a new interview though, president of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige gave an example of how Strange’s powers will fit in with the other characters. Read the quotes below to find out how the Doctor Strange’s movie magic could work.
Badass Digest posed the question to Feige, who gave this interesting answer:
Are you watching the Cosmos series? That’s magic, [the quantum physics]. It’s unbelievable. If somebody knew how to tap into that stuff, what’s the difference between that and magic?
You don’t get into it in Harry Potter, but if a scientist went to Hogwarts he’d find out how some of that stuff is happening! We’re not going to spend a lot of time on that, but there will be some of that. And particularly for a character like Strange, who goes from a man of science to a man of faith and who traverses both worlds. And sometimes there won’t be an answer! Sometimes he’ll want an answer – “How is this happening?!” – and nothing.
He then added this perfect little sound bite:
Doctor Strange needs to be a Ditko/Kubrick/Miyazaki/The Matrix mind-trip.
While nothing is confirmed, Thursday’s Captain America 3 news all but assures Doctor Strange is staring down a July 8, 2016 release date. Talking to the Huffington Post, Feige said the following about the film.
It’s time. It’s time. I would be surprised if [a Doctor Strange film not happening] were the case, yeah. Maybe three or four years, yeah, we’ll see. But, I would like it to be the case. Much like Vin Diesel, I like it when something finally happens, and then we can talk about what it is — versus rumors of what it could be or should be or isn’t yet [laughs].
Plus, if you read earlier on Thursday, Feige mentioned there are still lots of directors in the mix for the film and once it comes together they will make the announcement. Whomever the director is will certainly have a lot to live up to thanks to that Feige quote, though. Steve Ditko, Stanley Kubrick, Hayzo Miyazaki and The Matrix are all pretty fantastic.
