When The Wizarding World of Harry Potter first opened at Universal Orlando, fans went nuts over the real-life beverage adaptation of Butterbeer, and loved candy treats that had only previously been seen in the movies and books. (As invented, in fiction, by JK Rowling herself.) So what does the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter Diagon Alley expansion hold in terms of fun food and drink options? Lets take a look at our ten favorite Diagon Alley food options from the the exclusive preview event.
Paulopabita’s Fishy Green Ale is an non-alcoholic beverage which was advertised but not sold in the original Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The drink is creamy, green in color, a mint cinnamon flavor with plump blueberry “fish eggs.”
I was not able to try this one out myself but it came highly recommended by others I met during the preview. The drink comes with a larger straw so that you can suck up the small “fish egg” boba-like balls on the bottom of the cup.
Fishy Green Ale is available in The Leaky Caldron, The Fountain of Fair Fortune and The Hopping Pot.
Ice Creams: Butterbeer and Chocolate Chili
How do you top Butterbeer? How about Butterbeer flavored ice cream? Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlour is the only place in the Wizarding World to buy such a treat.
On Harry Potter’s first visit to Diagon Alley, Hagrid presented him with a large chocolate and raspberry flavored ice cream with chopped nuts, which likely came from Fortescue’s shop. The shop and proprietor Florean Fortescue play a small role in Harry’s adventures but you’ll want to seek out the establishment on your visit to Diagon Alley.
Butterbeer ice cream is one of the shop’s soft serve ice cream options, mixing the signature butterscotch butterbeer taste in a swirl of vanilla ice cream. This seemed to be the uncontested favorite new food item in all of Diagon Alley by preview visitors. I had a small cup and can attest its pretty great. (That said, I still prefer the original frozen beverage version of Butterbeer.)
And if you’re not in a Butterbeer mood, let me also recommend the shop’s Chocolate Chili scooped hard ice cream, which mixes chocolate and spice for a nice kick. This is another thing I tried out in Diagon Alley and I think Mexican chocolate lovers will love this one. Another flavor exclusive to Diagon Alley and Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlour.
Draught Beers: Wizard’s Brew and Dragon Scale
When Butterbeer was introduced at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, some adult fans were disappointed that it was a non alcoholic beverage. While the Diagon Alley doesn’t offer an alcohol version of the famous butterbeer drink, it does introduce some special Wizarding World-only adult beverages.
The first of these is Wizard’s Brew, a draught beer with a sweet stout with a dry finish.
The other is another draught beer, the Dragon Scale. This one is a unique lager with a multi finish.
Both beers are available in The Leaky Caldron, The Fountain of Fair Fortune and The Hopping Pot.
