There are so many tiny superhero movie updates currently floating around online, we’ve decided to wrap them up in two separate posts divided by universe. Here’s the DC one. Below the jump you can read Zack Snyder‘s latest comments on his Superman film, Christopher Nolan‘s comments on Henry Cavill‘s casting, a rumor about new vehicles in The Dark Knight Rises and get a ton of Green Lantern information including some new stills, quotes from star Ryan Reynolds and a good look at the Power Battery.
We’ve heard Zack Snyder do plenty of talking about expectations and what he’s planning to do with his new version of Superman but, recently, he’s mostly done his talking through casting. He’s grabbed Diane Lane and we’ve heard rumors of Kevin Costner and Viggo Mortensen being up for roles. In talking to Sci Fi Now (with a nod to ScriptFlags), Snyder talked about keeping his title character relevant as well as his cultural importance.
You’ve got to keep in mind that they look at Superman as passé because that is the way he’s been approached in the movies. It’s not like the movies have done anything to fight that, so all I can say is that Chris [Nolan] and David [Goyer] address that in their story. I think the challenge is to make him relevant – figure out how we can make them care about him. That is the challenge.
Superman’s the king daddy; he’s the shit. If you can make him work, in the end there’s nobody else in the superhero world. For me, Watchmen was the exact opposite of Superman in that now that I’ve deconstructed the superhero world — I tore the curtain down — maybe I’m the right guy to put it back up. It’s like participating in the Olympics. I know that’s a weird metaphor, but, you know, there is definitely a historical aspect that is beyond you. The character is bigger than you and you have to keep that in mind. And the character will continue when you’re done. I feel pretty good about that now.
That film’s producer, Christopher Nolan, also commented on the film, specifically the casting of Henry Cavil. Thanks to Empire, with a nod to Digital Spy:
Henry’s a terrific choice as Superman. Other than having the look, he gave an incredible performance in the test we did and I think he’s going to be something really extraordinary in the role.
Sticking with Christopher Nolan, we know that so far, each one of his Batman films has added a new toy for the character to play with: The Tumbler and the Bat Pod specifically. But now rumors have surfaced that we’ll get to see him fly in The Dark Knight Rises. Thanks to Batman On Film:
One of my sources mentioned the possibility of an appearance of [an aerial Bat-Vehicle]. The more I thought about it, the more sense it made with the planned shooting locations. Could be interesting!
Head over to that page for more information, including some on the new Batmobile (because the last one was destroyed).
Finally, onto the Green Lantern. The Daily Blam has been finding a whole bunch of images from the film including images of the Power Battery and some new stills have appeared via Empire. You can check out all of those below:
In the Empire article, Reynolds talked about the controversial all CG costume:
It has to be virtual rather than spandex. This is a suit from an alien planet, It’s not The Dark Knight – I don’t put the suit on and my voice drops several octaves. The suit is powered specifically on his will, his emotion, his creativity and his imagination. I love that. Everything Hal creates are images from his childhood. Or things fueled specifically from his own mind.
