Dan Aykroyd Confirms Cameo In Paul Feig's 'Ghostbusters'

Since Paul Feig's reboot of Ghostbusters doesn't have any narrative ties to the original franchise, we won't be seeing any characters from the iconic films popping up. But that doesn't mean some of the stars of the 1984 Ghostbusters are out of the running.

In fact, Dan Aykroyd has just announced that he was on the set of Ghostbusters today shooting a scene with Kristen Wiig. And there are even details as to what kind of character he's playing in the movie. Find out more about the Dan Aykroyd Ghostbusters cameo after the jump!

First of all, here's Aykroyd's excited post on Facebook about production:

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));

And The Wrap followed up on that revelation and learned that Aykroyd will be playing a cab driver in a scene with Kristen Wiig's character. This was first reported on at IndieRevolver, but they reportedly had to take it down at the request of the studio, only to have it reported in the trades later.

In addition, he'll say a line from the original Ghostbusters theme song by Ray Parker Jr. Early guesses would probably point to "Who ya gonna call?" maybe being the slogan of the cab company that he works for, but it would also be fairly amusing for some kind of sexual innuendo to come from the line "Bustin' makes me feel good."

Anyway, it's good to know that Aykroyd will be popping up in some capacity, even though it's a bit of a bummer that it won't be as Ray Stantz. The question is whether or not any of the other Ghostbuster cast members will make time for a cameo.

Bill Murray wasn't keen on starring in Ghostbusters 3, and last fall it didn't sound like a cameo was in the cards, but it's not necessarily impossible. There's also Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts and Rick Moranis who could make an appearance, though the latter is essentially retired. At this point we won't count on anyone else showing up, but if they do, we hope it ends up being a surprise.

Otherwise, there's a solid comedic cast here with Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones in the lead ghostbusting roles, not to mention Chris Hemsworth, Andy Garcia, Michael K. Williams, Neil Casey, Matt Walsh and more in supporting roles.

If you missed the new pictures last week, Paul Feig unveiled some detailed specs on the new proton packs, gave us a look at the new Ecto-1, and also showed off the primary cast all suited up in ghostbusting gear. Stay tuned for more on the Ghostbusters reboot as more information become available.

Ghostbusters arrives on July 22nd, 2016.
