Chloe Bennet Joins 'Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D.' As The Sixth Regular

The final member of the S.H.I.E.L.D.team has been selected and she's straight from Nashville. Actress Chloe Bennet, who plays a record company assistant on the hit ABC show Nashville, has moved across the network to the Marvel themed show, Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D., as the sixth and final regular. She'll be playing Skye, "a confident woman who is slightly obsessed with superhero culture and the shadow organizations that exist within it. She's edgy and can out-talk anyone with her unflappable nature," according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Bennet joins Ming-Na as Agent Melinda MayClark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Brett Dalton as Agent Grant WardElizabeth Henstridge as Agent Gemma Simmons and Ian De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz. Read more after the jump.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of Bennet's casting. Joss Whedon is co-writing the pilot along with with Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, and will direct the pilot.

In a recent interview, the head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb surmised, if the pilot goes over well, the show could hit the air in the Fall of 2013 on ABC. That would put it after Iron Man 3 but before Thor The Dark World on the theatrical side. Of course, with the inclusion of the departed Agent Coulson, odds are this is going to be a show set in a pre-Avengers world somehow.

As a Marvel fan, be it of the movies or comics, this whole S.H.I.E.L.D. thing is incredibly exciting. The potential for something truly great is obviously there, plus it opens the door for so much more on the small screen if it's a hit. The Hulk tv show, for example.
