Eli Roth is making the earth move. The man behind the Hostel series, co-star of Inglourious Basterds and producer of The Last Exorcism has teamed up with successful Chilean filmmaker Nicolás López to make Aftershock, an English-language action-thriller inspired by the Chilean earthquake. It follows a group of six friends (including Roth, several international movie stars and a cameo by pop superstar Selena Gomez) struggling to survive after a massive earthquake hits their city and society crumbles around them. Most of the film will include realistic, practical effects.

Aftershock is still shooting in Chile but Lopez and Roth are ready to debut the first official images from the film exclusively here on /Film.

M. Night Shyamalan, Will Smith and Jaden Smith are currently in Costa Rica shooting the Summer 2013 blockbuster After Earth and it seems like the trio are dead set on keeping the fans involved in the action. Shyamalan has been posting several behind the scenes shots at the film’s jungle location and Smith’s camp is even getting into the mix, posting our first look at the father and son as they’ll appear in the film. Will is aged up and Jaden is much more clean cut, as they’ll play a father and son who return to Earth 1000 years after the planet has been abandoned. Check out all the photos and more after the jump. Read More »

Screenwriter Roberto Orci seems to be going through his cell phone and tweeting a bunch of older photos from the set of 2009′s Star Trek. He’s posted several never before seen looks behing the scenes of the blockbuster just as the new one is currently filming. Orci, of course, co-wrote not only Star Trek with his partner Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof, they co-wrote the sequel as well as Transformers, Mission: Impossible III, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and more. Those plans for David Milch’s beloved Deadwood to live on in the form of a TV movie will likely never come to fruition, but fans may yet get an opportunity to revisit the Western town when Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained hits theaters at the end of this year. Actor Garret Dillahunt, who played Francis Wolcott on the HBO series, recently paid a visit to the set of Tarantino’s “Southern-fried spaghetti Western” and couldn’t help but notice that the setting looked awfully familiar. Check out Dillahunt’s TwitPics after the jump.

The Great Snow White Showdown of 2012 has been brewing for about a year and a half now, but it looks like we’ll have to wait just a tiny bit longer to see how things shake out. Mirror Mirror has pushed its release date back by two weeks from March 16 to March 30, the better to take advantage of spring break and the Easter holiday. Snow White and the Huntsman is still scheduled to open June 1.

In the meantime, though, we have a couple of new looks at both in the form of a behind-the-scenes video from Mirror Mirror and a just-released photo of Kristen Stewart in Snow White and the Huntsman. The more we see of each, the clearer it’s becoming that whatever their respective strengths or weaknesses, the two movies are very different beasts. Hit the jump for more.

The first real shot of Henry Cavill as Superman in Zack Snyder‘s new film Man of Steel wasn’t quite what fans expected to see, but it did start to give us a look at the suit that Cavill will sport as the new man from Krypton.

We saw some other pics of Cavill in a stripped-down suit, which clued us in to some of the unusual alien accents that decorate the suit. Those images started a minor argument amongst fans who are concerned, to various degrees, about  the fact that one traditional element of Supes’ costume, the red ‘underpants,’ have seemingly been banished.

Now here’s one more new image that shows a good old-fashioned friendly Superman. Still no underpants, though. Read More »

First Look: Vin Diesel in New ‘Riddick’ Sequel

Whether or not you’re a fan of Vin Diesel and David Twohy‘s films featuring the character Riddick (Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick), I think you have to admire the fact that, after years of being determined to make a third film featuring Diesel’s character, the duo is finally getting the movie made. Their fuel seems to be nothing short of pure willpower.

It hasn’t been easy — the project has been dismissed from the beginning, and thanks to its indie status has had some money trouble that caused the production to be put on hold late last year as it geared up to shoot. But the production is up and running once more, and Diesel has offered up the first look at his third turn as Riddick. Read More »

It didn’t take much deliberation at all for me to crown Rian Johnson‘s third film Looper as my most anticipated movie of 2012. After making Brick and The Brothers Bloom, Johnson has penned and directed a sci-fi thriller in which time travel is used as an assassination tool in the not-too-distant future.

A few people have seen the film in incomplete form, and written very positive things about it. But most of us know very little. We know the cast includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt, and we’ve seen a single image of Willis firing a rifle. Unless you read all the reviews that came out of one early screening, that’s probably all you know.

Now, as a New Year’s present, Johnson has offered up a photo of himself sitting in the film’s giant iron womb of a time machine. The image should give you the idea that this is no simple, slick thriller, but hopefully something with a more convincing approach. Check the image in full below. Read More »
