Twilight star Kristen Stewart hasn’t yet started shooting music video director Floria Sigismondi’s The Runaways, but she’s already transformed her hair to look more like famous rock’n'roller Joan Jett. The film is a biopic of the first successful all-girl hard rock band The Runaways (hence the title), which fell apart after four years due to management and money disputes. The movie also stars Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie and Stella Maeve as Sandy West. The movie will follow them from” the band’s meteoric rise as teenagers to their dissolution and disillusionment.” Sigismondi’s music videos have included Marilyn Manson’s Tourniquet, Christina Aguilera’s Fighter and The White Stripes’ Blue Orchid.

First Look: James Franco In Howl

howl_franco

This is the sort of story that we’d often relegate to Page 2, but I’m interested enough in Howl, the upcoming picture about poet Allen Ginsberg, that I want to take the chance to highlight the first photo of James Franco in character as Ginsberg as published by EW. I’ve been following Franco’s Ledger-like emergence as a serious actor with great interest, and this could be a key project in his career. Written and directed by the team of Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman (who also made doc The Celluloid Closet over a decade ago) the film focuses on the publication of the poem Howl and the landmark obscenity trial that ensued. Sharing the frame with Franco there is Aaron Tveit, playing his longtime partner Peter Orlovsky; compare this shot to actual photos of Ginsberg and Orlovsky after the jump. Read More »

Edgar Wright has posted the first photo of Satya Bhabha in costume from the set of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. As you probably know, Scott Pilgrim is is based on the Oni Press graphic novel written by Bryan Lee O’Malley. In the film adaptation, Michael Cera plays 23-year-old Canadian slacker Scott Pilgrim, who must battle and defeat his dream girl’s (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), seven evil ex-”boyfriends” in order to win her heart.

Bhabha plays Matthew Patel, the first of Ramona’s evil ex-boyfriends. The fight which took place at the end of the first graphic novel, was depicted in a style reminiscent of Street Fighter meets Bollywood musical. Full photo after the jump.

a couple of dicks set phtoo

Kevin Smith’s R-Rated buddy cop comedy A Couple of Dicks began filming in New York this week, and a few photos from the set have begun showing up online. The first photo, above, comes from accidentalsexiness, and features Tracy Morgan and Bruce Willis in a car. After the first day of shooting, Smith tweeted “Bruce & Tracy are so good together, you’d think this was the sequel.” More photos after the jump, including a look at Morgan dressed in a giant cell phone costume and the film’s production logo.

First Look: Josh Brolin as Jonah Hex

hex_on_set

Our first look at Josh Brolin in his Jonah Hex costume, not to mention make-up, has appeared on the Lainey Gossip blog. The main thrust of their story is some rather un-/Filmy jibber jabber about Brolin’s private life, but they decided to illustrate it with some Jonah Hex paparazzi shots from this last weekend’s shooting. Sample all three of the Brolin images after the jump, and don’t forget that there’s already been some snaps of Megan Fox in her rather… er… overt costume.

Aubrey Plaza in Scott Pilgrim

julie powers aubrey plaza scott pilgrim

Edgar Wright has finally released a first real look at Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Some of you might remember that we posted a half concealed photo of her giving the middle finger in March. In the film adaptation, Plaza (seen above) plays bitchy Julie Powers, the obnoxious on-off-on-again girlfriend of Stephen Stills, the lead singer and guitarist of Scott’s band, Sex Bob-omb, and Stacey Pilgrim’s (Anna Kendrick) coffee shop co-worker.

You might not know who Plaza is right now, but you will soon enough. The Upright Citizen’s Brigade comic was featured in the Sundance comedy hit Mystery Team and has co-starring roles in Judd Apatow’s Funny People, Scott Pilgrim, and Parks and Rec.

james_and_his_powersuit

Marketsaw, the number one Avatar obsessives to hold a blogspot account in all of this world, have posted an image of what to my eye appears to be a Powersuit from James Cameron’s upcoming epic. You can see part of the picture up above and the whole thing is below the break. Jim at Marketsaw was asking for somebody to comment and name the image, so I thought I’d oblige. What jolly japes.

Previously, Marketsaw received and published what ultimately turned out to be the very first confirmed image of the Na’vi, the alien species at the heart of the movie’s storyline. I think Marketsaw have got a really good track record with this film and as such, I trust the image is one hundred percent real.

Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood is currently filming on locations up and down the English countryside. Courtesy of The Daily Mail you can see a handful of paparazzi shots of King John’s soldiers attacking a village. These were all filmed in Bourne Wood, Surrey but the film has skipped between a handful of counties. There’s one image above and the others are hidden away down below the break in this story.

I’ve always assumed that Edgar Wright’s film adaptation of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World would end the same way as the graphic novels. Of course, Scott Pilgrim Volume 5: Scott Pilgrim vs. The Universe was only recently released, and the sixth and probably final, volume is still being written. Creator, writer and artist Bryan Lee O’Malley reveals that the movie might end completely differently than the books.
