Let It Go(T)

What do you get when you combine a hit song from the highest grossing animated film of all time with one of the most insanely popular TV shows of all time? A “Let It Go” mashup for the ages, of course.

My Cast of Kings co-host Joanna Robinson approached me to put together a music video of “Let It Go”, but using some fun Game of Thrones inspired lyrics performed by her talented friend Gail. [The following contains SPOILERS for everything through this week's episode of Game of Thrones (Season 4 episode 1).  No book spoilers for future episodes here, or in the comments please.]

In this week’s episode of A Cast of Kings, I mentioned how I found the end of the season 4 premiere to be a bit disquieting. Sure, Arya Stark is one of the most sympathetic characters of the series, and sure, us viewers want to see her exact vengeance on the Lannisters for the heinous crimes they’ve committed against House Stark. But as the credits played and the music swelled and Arya Stark rode off with The Hound on her newly won horse, I couldn’t help but think: we’ve just seen a child murder another human being out of revenge. And the show wants us to feel triumphant about this? Like Bad Fans?

Or does it? After the jump you’ll find my latest video essay, in which I attempt to divine the showrunners’ intentions through their use of music in this episode.
