Tomorrowland

Hot off the news Disney has moved Star Wars Episode VII from an expected Summer 2015 release date to the winter, the company has slotted another family sci-fi fantasy adventure in the expected Star Wars slot. Tomorrowland, directed by Brad Bird, co-written by Damon Lindelof and starring George Clooney, has been moved from December 2014 to May 22, 2015.

By moving Tomorrowland, Disney both shows the Star Wars move wasn’t a competition thing as well as an epic vote of confidence in Bird’s film. It now opens during a Summer which will see films such as Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jurassic World, Terminator 5 and many, many more. Opening an original story against all these well-regarded and popular franchises means Disney thinks it stand right up against them.

Here’s the official description of the plot:

Bound by a shared destiny, a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor jaded by disillusionment embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory as “Tomorrowland.”

We have much, much on the plot and intricacies of Tomorrowland if you read articles here and here. Even among a huge, huge year of blockbuster films, this has to be one of the most anticipated.
