Batman v Superman Visual Effects

Even though Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was one of the most hotly debated movies of 2016, I think we can all agree that there is some outstanding visual effects work in the movie. Not every visual effect is perfect, but I’m betting that when you see the recently release Batman v Superman visual effects breakdown that you’ll be surprised to see just how much of certain sequences was actually created in post-production.

Here’s the Batman v Superman visual effects breakdown from Scanline VFX:

Much of the reel focuses on sequences with the Batmobile and the Batwing, chasing down other vehicles and blowing them up. There is one little bit of insight into just how much composition went into one quick shot of Batman’s aerial vehicle blowing up a trio of cars in a flyby.

But to me one of the more impressive sequences to see broken down are the shots of people stranded on their roofs in the middle of a flood. I never really thought about just how much of that quick scene was created entirely with visual effects, but the water flowing between those houses was so well done that it didn’t make me think twice that nearly all of it was fake. And that’s exactly what a good visual effect should do, even when creating something entirely unbelievable.

So even though Batman v Superman may not be the most beloved blockbuster of the year, at least there are some good visual effects on display, even if they didn’t make the shortlist for a potential Academy Award nomination.
