Guillermo del Toro's upcoming fantasy horror film Pan's Labyrinth has been chosen to represent Mexico in this year's Academy Awards.

Labyrinth will be trying for the Best foreign-language film Oscar.

Picturehouse purchased the film at Sundance for close to $6 million, and plans to release the movie on December 29th in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago in order to be eligible for the award. Pan will expand to 35 other markets on January 12th 2007.

Picturehouse president Bob Berney assures the media that they will be "vying for other categories as well, including best director, set design, art direction, score and actress for Ivana Baquero."
