Disney has decided to follow the record-breaking success of Pirates of the Caribbean with another Disneyland ride to big screen adaptation, this time we're going on a Jungle Cruise.
Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar are in talks to pen the script which is based on the original 1955 Disneyland attraction. The ride is actually one of the 22 original attractions to open at the park on July 17th 1955.
The attraction lets park guests ride in a small riverboat through the jungles of Asia, Africa and South America. The boat's Skipper provides humorous various scripted narration featuring puns relating to the various scenes viewed during the ride. The attraction was inspired by Walt Disney's True Life Adventure short films as well as the motion picture The African Queen.
Rumor has it that the film version will follow a group of people on a journey through the jungle looking for a cure to a friend's illness. In the past, the film has been described as a family version of Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness.
Disney first announced the project in Spring 2004, with Sweet Valley High creator Josh Goldstein and Tin Cup scribe John Norville to pen the screenplay.
Disney's easily forgotten attempt at making a film based on the famous Haunted Mansion attraction was released in November 2003. Starring Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Tilly, the $90 million movie failed to make it's money back at the box office. Let's hope that this film doesn't suffer the same fate.
