
The 31st Toronto International Film Festival ended on Sunday with an award reception at the Toronto Hilton Hotel.
The Winners are:
Swarovski Cultural Innovation Award: Ozer Kiziltan's German/Turkish film Takva -- A Man's Fear of God about a 45-year-old unmarried man who's core belief in God is put to the test.
Honorable mention: Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth's Khadak.People's Choice Award: Alejandro Monteverde's Bella which follows "two people who awaken to an ordinary day, which proves to be anything but."
Honorable mentions:
Diesel Discovery Award: Joachim Trier's Reprise which follows a group of best friends who mail their first novels to publishers. The film explores what happens to them and their friends.
- First runner-up: Patrice Leconte's Mon Meilleur Ami
- Second runner-up: Barbara Kopple and Cecilia Peck's Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing
Prize of the International Critics (FIPRESCI Prize): Gabriel Range's Death of a President, a fake documentary about the future assassination of George W. Bush.
Citytv Award for Best Canadian First Feature: Noel Mitrani for On the Trail of Igor Rizzi, about a heartsick former professional soccer player who leaves France for Montreal, accepting a job as a hit man even though he's never used a gun.
Toronto-City Award for Best Canadian Feature Film: Jennifer Baichwal's documentary Manufactured Landscapes, about Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky.
Honorable mention: Reg Harkema's Monkey Warfare.
Short Cuts Canada Award: Maxime Giroux for Les Jours.
