This week, The Man releases Superman Returns, a fitting title for a movie that celebrates an ultra-conservative hero who uses his limitless power to maintain the status quo.

Those who really fight a never-ending battle for truth, justice and the American way will be seeing Who Killed The Electric Car?, a documentary that exposes the collusion between auto and oil industries, and the politicians who lick their corporate behinds.

Lately we’ve seen a stream of documentaries that stick it to The Man. Here are 10 to see. Don’t pay attention to the rankings; they’re all important.

10. An Inconvenient Truth (2006) – Gore’s power point presentation has people talking about another run for the Presidency. The facts about global warming are alarming, but another inconvenient truth is that Gore may just be The Man in a green suit.

9. Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room (2005) If you find all of the Enron financial shenanigans confusing, The Smartest Guys in the Room presents it so that even an honest person who works for a living can understand what happened.

8. Roger & Me (1989) – The story of how GM destroyed Flint, Michigan, Roger & Me put Michael Moore on the map, before his own girth made him visible from space.

7. This Film Is Not Yet Rated (2006) – Hollywood is The Man too, and they use the powerful, mysterious, and unaccountable MPAA rating system to keep indie films from threatening their domain. How else do they get people to go see movies that promote a white, male dominated society, like Click?

6. Why We Fight
(2005) When Ike Eisenhower cautions against the Military Industrial complex, that’s The Man warning you about The Man. Ever wonder how within 12 years of the fall of Communism we’re already locked in another death match with a global enemy?

5. Waco: The Rules of Engagement (1997) – The Man keeps us all down, even the Christian cults. See how Janet Reno, Bill Clinton’s Attorney General, sent federal agents, guns blazing, against a group of American citizens who were exercising their right to be religious nuts.

4. The Corporation (2003) – When we talk about the man, we’re talking about the corporations. This doc leaves no stone unturned in explaining how creating a corporation is like giving birth to a sociopath.

3. Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Prices (2005) – You might never shop at Wal-Mart again, if there are any other stores left in your town.

2. Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004) – Director Michael Moore delivers a screaming propaganda piece that brought the documentary into the mainstream. It would have made number one if Bush had lost the election.

1. Super Size Me (2004) – Number one because it shows the power of a citzen with a video camera. After Super Size Me was made, McDonald’s took the Super Size option off the menu. The clown says that they were going to do that anyway, but we all know better. Watch this and you wont eat a McDonald’s, at least for a few days.
