Andron Trailer

It’s safe to say we’ve probably had enough dystopian sci-fi films where people are forced to compete, train or play some kind of dangerous game in order to survive while a higher power oversees their struggle as a display of authority. The Hunger Games, Divergent and The Maze Runner have all tapped into this trend, mostly thanks to the success of thee young adult books on which they’re based. But it seems like audiences may be getting tired of them.

That hasn’t stopped another attempt at bringing the concept to life, but this time with a bit of an older cast at the center of the story. Andron follows a group of men and women in the distant future who wake up in a dark maze with no idea who they are while Alec Baldwin is the man who controls the various challenges and dangers they face. As you’ll see in the Andron trailer below, it’s as derivative as it sounds, and not even the special effects make it worth watching.

Here’s the Andron trailer from AMBI Distribution:

This just looks like a straight-to-DVD or VOD only title that is trying to cash in on all the success of the aforementioned young adult franchises. Originally, the idea of Alec Baldwin being the makeshift President Snow of this film was an appealing one, but not even his presence can save this movie from looking dreadful. At the very least he’s not phoning it in, but it’s sad to see an actor like him, who regularly does fantastic work, stoop to this kind of movie. And I feel just as badly when I see Danny Glover briefly appear in this trailer, too.

The rest of the on-screen talent is nothing to write home about with Michelle Ryan (BBC’s EastEnders), Skin (lead singer from the U.K. band Skunk Anansie), Jon Kortajarena (A Single Man), Gale Harold (Queer as Folk) and Leo Howard (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) filling out the cast.

Francesco Cinquemani directs the film which is actually an Italian production, despite being an English-language film with a Hollywood cast. The film has made the round at some international film festivals, but it doesn’t sound like there was much to praise since we haven’t heard anything about the movie until now.

In the year 2154, a group of young men and women awake in a dark claustrophobic maze. They don’t remember who they are or how they got stuck in the Black Labyrinth of ANDRON. The group must learn to decipher codes, understand the signals and beat the tests in this mysterious and bizarre place. Out of necessity they struggle to form a bond to survive, while the outside world watches and wagers on their fate.

Andron arrives this summer on June 3.
