There’s no doubt that Steven Spielberg is one of the most influential and iconic directors working today. Spielberg has dabbled in everything from war dramas like Saving Private Ryan, historical dramas like The Color Purple, thrillers like Jaws, sci-fi classics like E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, Jurassic Park and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and the action adventure trilogy featuring Indiana Jones.
Now all those films and more from the filmmaker’s extensive filmography will be returning to theaters, thanks to an entire month of tribute screenings that are happening all throughout the month of September for a little event series that the Alamo Drafthouse is hosting called Septemberg. Get more details on the Alamo Drafthouse Steven Spielberg programming after the jump!
Here’s Alamo Drafthouse’s video announcing Septemberg for next month:
All through September, Alamo Drafthouse locations will be screening Jaws, Jurassic Park, The Color Purple, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Saving Private Ryan, Hook and the entire Indiana Jones trilogy. In addition, they’ll also be screening the Spielberg produced movies An American Tail and Poltergeist.
Alamo Drafthouse’s participating locations include Austin, Littleton, Houston, Kalamazoo, Kansas City, Loudoun, Laredo, Lubbock, New Braunfels, San Antonio and Yonkers, but you’ll want to check out each theater’s respective line-up at Alamo Drafthouse’s event page, because not every theater is playing all of the movies above.
Some of these screenings are made even more fun by the fact that certain showings of Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones movies will be quote-alongs, with fans being able to spout off their favorite lines in the theater with other fellow Spielberg lovers. There’s also some special dinner engagements for Saving Private Ryan and Hook at some of the locations.
As a huge Spielberg fan, I will definitely be checking out my nearest Alamo Drafthouse for a couple of these events, especially that Jurassic Park quote-along. Plus, it’s been awhile since I’ve seen the Indiana Jones trilogy in theaters, so that seems like an absolute necessity. As Alamo Drafthouse says:
What makes Spielberg so special, though, isn’t just the diversity of his films, but that many of them are truly great. His ability to speak to very different audiences effectively has been his trademark. It’s feels like a universal belief that he is a great filmmaker, but once you try and figure out why exactly that is you understand just how one-of-a-kind his career has been.
