Movie Poster: Disney’s Tangled

Walt Disney Animation Studios has released the first teaser poster for their upcoming computer animated film Tangled on Yahoo Movies. Check out the full one-sheet, after the jump.

Previously:

Directed by Byron Howard & Nathan Greno (the co-director and head of story on Bolt respectively), this new telling of the classic fairy tale Rapunzel (the original title of the film), will transport audiences “to a stunning CG fantasy world complete with the iconic tower, an evil witch, a gallant hero and, of course, the mysterious girl with the long golden tresses. Expect adventure, heart, humor, and hair, lots of hair.” The lead heroine is voiced by Mandy Moore while Chuck’s Zachary Levi will play a “dashing bandit” named Flynn Ryder who hits the road with the “rebellious, teenage hair apparent.”

Previous director Glen Keane developed a new look for this computer animated film, which is said to look and feel more like a traditional hand-drawn Disney Classic, but in 3D. Apparently the film uses a non-photorealistic rendering technique which will make the surface look like it is painted but still containing depth and dimensions. The movie’s visual style is being based on French Rococo artist Jean-Honore Fragonard’s painting “The Swing”.

A short clip of test footage was shown at Siggraph 2005, where is gained a lot of attention. Earlier concept images had been previously posted online from when the project was titled Rapunzel Unbraided. But the project has since been completely revamped. You can see some concept art from the film here and here. You can read an early reader review here.

Tangled is scheduled to hit theaters in November 24th 2010.

Walt Disney Pictures presents “Tangled,” one of the most hilarious, hair-raising tales ever told. When the kingdom’s most wanted—and most charming—bandit Flynn Rider (voice of Zachary Levi) hides out in a mysterious tower, he’s taken hostage by Rapunzel (voice of Mandy Moore), a beautiful and feisty tower-bound teen with 70 feet of magical, golden hair. Flynn’s curious captor, who’s looking for her ticket out of the tower where she’s been locked away for years, strikes a deal with the handsome thief and the unlikely duo sets off on an action-packed escapade, complete with a super-cop horse, an over-protective chameleon and a gruff gang of pub thugs. In theaters this holiday season in Disney Digital 3D™, “Tangled” is a story of adventure, heart, humor and hair—lots of hair.

Notes:

· “Tangled” marks Walt Disney Pictures’ 50th full-length animated feature.

· Byron Howard directed Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Bolt,” the 2008 animated comedy adventure that grossed more than $300 million worldwide and earned two Golden Globe® nominations (Best Animated Film and Best Original Song), and an Oscar® nomination for Best Animated Feature. Nathan Greno, a 14-year Disney animation veteran, served as head of story on “Bolt,” and has animation and/or story credits on such other animated features as “Mulan,” “Brother Bear,” and “Meet the Robinsons.”

· “Tangled” features new songs and a score by eight-time Oscar®-winning composer/songwriter Alan Menken “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin,” “Pocahontas,” and, most recently, “Enchanted.” Lyrics are by Glenn Slater, a 2008 Tony® and Grammy® nominee for his work on “The Little Mermaid.”

Oooohh!! The come hither look!! Something tells me those two are up to something very naughty behind all those golden locks!!! ;)

The horror.... I think Disney needs to hire better stuff. You give them a film that is supposed to be visually stunning and they give you a poster filled with.... hair?????????????????????

In Venezuela the word Tangled (Enredados) usually is connected to the image of a boss and his secretary in a secret relationship, so watching these two hiding from plain view with suspicious looks isn't helping the opinions that this movie is creating in here :P

    This is a nightmare.

It's great that Disney releases Ghibli films, but I wish they'd learn something from them as well. They're really successful in Japan. Children want to be pulled into a film even more than adults do, not just assaulted with noise and action. If you put one of Miyazaki's great films in the DVD player they will suck it up like liquid sugar.

I thought Lasseter would shake things up more.
  • Pretty sure this movie was well underway before Disney made Pixar its bitch.
  • If Disney learned anything from Ghibli films they'd go broke because those films flop here.

    Truth hurts.

    "in Japan"

    Learn to read.
  • Some Ghibli movies are actually record-breaking movies in Japan. If they flop here it's because Disney doesn't market them well (or at all).

    Truth cuts both ways.
  • I'm... pretty sure... that I'm still looking forward to this but I'm not sure that poster is helping any reservations that I have. This looks like two mischievous Dreamworks characters hiding out in a thing of hay.

    hiiiiiii man
  • Is the movie about evil people who build nests out of hair?

lamest one-sheet ever, and that is after the incredibly lazy collection of Bolt character one-sheets. I hate that they are shoe-horning the prince as the main character.
  • Tee
He's a thief, not a prince. Perhaps if you paid a little more attention, you might know that.

Yeah those two are totally frying, completely dosed. This can't be for children or else those must be the monsters.

Probably gonna skip this one, lots of movies coming out during the end of the year and I've never really enjoyed any of Disney's CG films except for Meet the Robinsons.
  • EbonPinion
I agree with the not liking Disney's CG stuff much, but to their credit, I DID like Meet the Robinsons more than pretty much any other CG movie ever, so, we'll see...

That is what happens when kids these days abuse Rogaine™.

Course, you just know there was one guy at Disney that said,
