alice-eve-emma-frost

Briefly: Alice Eve, the lead actress from She’s Out of My League, is in talks with Fox to play Emma Frost in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming X-Men: First Class, reports Deadline. Not long ago, very tenuous rumor had suggested the role might go to Rosamund Pike, but Pike has also been linked to the role of Moira McTaggert.

If this deal is finalized, Eve will join James McAvoy as Professor X, Michael Fassbender as Magneto and Benjamin Walker as Beast. Amber Heard is rumored to play Mystique. This isn’t Eve’s first flirtation with the Marvel Universe. Earlier this year she was rumored to be the studio’s pick to play Peggy Carter in Captain America, though that role ended up going to Hayley Atwell.

Additionally, Marvel today issued a press release that Tommy Lee Jones is confirmed for Captain America (which we knew) and that he’d play Colonel Phillips, which is a detail we didn’t have finalized. Phillips is the officer who recruits Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) to the project which turns him into the super-soldier Captain America.

It's far too early for me to get excited about anything related to this film. There seems to be so little going on beyond some casting, and nothing even on that front has stoked my fire. Big deal- good looking woman fresh on the Hollywood scene has been tapped for a film that looks to be completely unfocused and poor. The best comic adaptations have pushed strong character development, believe it or not, and there is zilch related to these last few X-MEN entries that goes anywhere near. It's the same bigger (and apparently younger) is better that Hollywood shoves down our throats when they don't invest in talented, strong-willed directors.

Are you saying that Matthew Vaughn isn't a talented, strong-willed director?

If anything, his work on Layer Cake and Kick-Ass and Stardust are proof positive that he knows how to take on genres and working with an assemble cast to deliver a quality product. Is it still early to get really excited? Sure! But I will say that I'm far more interested in this movie now than ever. The few acting choices that this project seems to attract should be a good indication of the level of quality that this movie wants to achieve, that is of a characters-focused ensemble movie with a director can get things done.

I'll definitely concede that Matthew Vaughn is a positive sign for the movie, especially when some of these comic adaptions get helmers like tim Story or Mark Steven Johnson. But how do we explain away the quality and narrative train wreck that SPIDER-MAN 3 ended up, even with a more experienced director in Raimi? Here was a man that has tremendous clout in the industry and he couldn't outbattle executives with their misguided shove of unfocused spectacle.

I'll be honest- I think LAYER CAKE was a very poor, derivative flick, and I still have yet to see KICK-ASS. I've heard some great things about the latter so I am anticipating that one pretty highly.

This film is risking being far too unfocused and gimmicky, and I seriously doubt that Vaughn has the clout to push back studio interference on this one, especially with so many dollars on the line. I think this movie threatens to overwhelm Vaughn, and we are gonna end up with yet another irritating and weak comic adaption.

Something else I think you should consider is that the project was attractive enough for Brian Singer to want to come back and direct it. I don't think that he would have signed on for it if it was likely to turn out like X3 or Wolverine. He will also be producing the film.
I write all this assuming that you thought X2 was good. If not then I think you'd be very unlikely to like this film.

funny how someone that Hot is gonna play Frost

I see what you did there.
  • Well, she certainly looks like Emma Frost.

And by that, I mean she gets me hard.
  • evilninjax
Very beautiful, but on screen very plain. I mean not "plain" as in plain-looking, but she just didn't hold the screen very much. imho, she was overshadowed by Krysten Ritter. Granted she wasnt' really given that much to work with, but i just felt she was sorta just "there".

I've always love scantily-clad women but in comic books, it's always to the extreme. I know that Emma Frost is sexy, but I've seen art pieces of her almost half naked. Not complaining but it's weird to see a character like that especially in the more recent X-Men cartoons (more clothes of course).
  • PizpotGargravarr
Almost half naked? That doesn't sound very naked. In fact it sounds quite clothed.

I hope she wears that exact costume.

Love it. Having just watched 'league' I am completely in love...I'm mean I'm very interested in development pertaining to this motion picture. (I just hope that outfit is involved) :)

Wow, she certainly looks the part.
  • Yes, that was a very smart choice of picture.

I really wanna see how this movie plays out...I hope plays out over a couple of years considering the amount of characters if not I smell another bomb like X-3

    Boobtastic!

She was very sweet in SOOML, and it's interesting that her name was swirling around Captain America but landed with the X-Men. Good choice.
