Re: The Dark Knight / lack of blood / PG-13 rating ... I think someone else has mentioned this before but I will say it again, doesn't the lack of blood for uber-violent acts seem like it would require a more strict rating?... it seems the type of violence SHOULD yield some blood, or, ya know, those 13-year-olds watching might think you can blast someone with a shotgun and nothing will happen. I think the previous reference of this was in regard to the violence and rating of Narnia: Prince Caspian (which I haven't seen). Thoughts?
  • Just wanted to tell Dave that "Lost In Space" wasn't the movie that dethroned "Titanic" from the #1 spot but "The Man in the Iron Mask" starring ironically Leonardo DiCaprio.
  • Nope. Just double-checked Box Office Mojo and Man in the Iron Mask didn't beat out Titanic. Took 16 weeks for Titanic to fall from the #1 spot, losing it to (as Dave said) Lost in Space.
  • Sorry about that Adam, I was certain that I heard it was "The Man in the Iron Mask" somewhere and Wikipedia said it did. But I put a lot more stock in Box Office Mojo. By the way, your dry wit is the best part of the show!!

Good to hear Russ on the podcast, he seems very knowledgeable, unlike you other hosts, haha, jk, you guys rule and get me through the slow-ass work days.

It's so bizarre to me that shows like Lost can be full of blood, but the Dark Knight can't have any. It sort of takes me out of the movie too.
  • Great podcast as always. Glad I skipped From Paris...

The problem with the knife-in-mouth-scene is not the missing blood; it's the fact that something like this wouldn't kill you.

Exactly, how the hell can someone die instantly from having their cheek cut open? That's really the only scene that pisses me off, I mean, we are able to see a fat man explode in jail and take out like 5 cops but we can't see the joker put a knife to a gangster's throat before showing him fall to the ground dead?

No Dave, the black bars ARE encoded into the video on blurays.

I creep myself out when I think about how much I love Hardawar, Chen and Quigley.

    This movie was god-awful.
The trailer seriously gave away all the good parts. What a waste...

Everybody!!! Listen to 27:38! Adam has a minor stroke. It's the greatest.

    Indeed. :D

An Education was such a mediocre film. I can't believe it was nominated for Best Picture, Writing, and Leading Actress. Especially Carey Mulligan's nomination; I felt nothing for her character (same for the rest of the cast).

BTW, the Las Vegas odds are on Avatar for Best Picture (2:1), despite the DGA award.
  • This film was not worthy of a podcast from anyone. What a waste of time.

EDIT: I wonder what Uwe Boll thought? Now THERE'S an interesting podcast.

Just saw From Paris with Love yesterday and I have to say, I thought it was even better than Taken. Pierre Morel does for John Travolta what he did for Liam Neeson, make him a bad-ass son-of-a-bitch. Travolta hasn't been this fun to watch in years, though I enjoyed him in Pelham 123, and the action is amazing. Seriously, I felt like I was watching a mix between an old school John Woo flick like Hard Boiled and an 80's buddy cop flick like 48 Hours.

The most important thing though is that I was thoroughly entertained from start to finish and besides an annoying-ass woman senator who couldn't act her way out of plastic bag, i wouldn't have changed a thing. Pierre Morel is now officially my go-to action director, it's amazing how far he's come since District B-13. Finally, I love that his closing music choices are always cool rock songs from like 5 years ago, that's old-school, plus it's probably cheaper.

I have to disagree with the Superbowl hyperbole. The world cup is the most viewed event in the history of humanity, and the world. Why, just last Cup's viewings ranged over a **715.1 million** viewers.
Almost a billion. And that's just the recorded estimates, let alone all the 3rd world countries where no recording is done.
