If you’ve been reading /Film for a while, then you know my obsession with minimalistic movie poster design. We’ve featured many of these simple 2-4 color streamlined posters on the site in the past, but never anything having to do with television. Graphic artist Albert Exergian has created a bunch of minimalistic posters for some of television’s most popular shows. And while these aren’t as conceptually clever as what I’m used to, I can still appreciate many of these. I’ve included a sample after the jump. You can buy prints of many of these posters for £50.00 on Blanka.

Check out more of Exergian’s work on exergian.com.

The Friends one is sweet. Can't beat a cup of coffee.

How about a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air one ... with a pair of Jordans or a boombox, maybe?
  • Alex B.
    Ahhh, I get it!

    How about these?
The Jeffersons (show a dry cleaning shirt)
Good Times (show a few sticks of TNT)
What's Happening? (Shirley Hemphills Afro in silhouette)
    Cosby Show (a colorful sweater)
A diffrent World (a flattop fade w/ glasses)
In Living Color (fly girls or Homey the clown)
Arsenio Hall Show (fists in air)

Just a few off the top of my head. Whatcha all think?

What is the Miami Vice one (I must admit i've never actually seen an episode)?
  • You lost me @ 50 Pounds each.
  • The Mad Men one is amazing.

    I agree, it's a tad weak.

    The Lost one is poor

But Knight Rider one carries their weight.

they aren't THAT clever, are they

I have been racking my brains trying to figure out the "Wire" poster. A wheel? A sewer cover? I decided that it's the receiver of a pay phone, or a microphone of some kind. Am I missing something?

I doubt the creator of that poster watched the series; it was about so much more than wire tapping. So many other moments/images from the show would have made better choices. A vial of heroin, the iconic cracked security camera from the opening credits, a smashed "burner," Omar's scar, Brother Mouzone's bow tie...
  • Pretty sure it's the butt-end of a payphone. That's how it began in Season One, after all. I do like your idea of Omar's scar in combo with Mouzone's bow tie. There's something in that...

Some of these don't feel that clever. The thing about Olly Moss (who I feel like doesn't do anything wrong) is NOT just forcing ideas in order to have a final product. Some of these feel forced in the ideas, but not very interesting or worthwhile in their execution.
  • iec
Like the BSG one -- that symbol in the show is way less important thematically than the red eye of the Cylons.
  • This actually makes me wonder if he's watched all these shows. Some of these are too literal to be of interest, though I do like the Miami Vice and Monk ones a lot.
  • loonytoad
sorry, could someone explain the 24 one to me?
  • GordonCole
It's twenty four bullets in their casings.
  • Kaye
An interesting game to play would be to guess which show each poster refers to without having the titles attached. I could probably only correctly guess about a half of em.
  • Blah
These are dull. Anyone could make these on their computer. The only poster that's at all witty is the Monk one.
  • Matthew
    I'm loving these posters!
  • Slatters
The Twin Peaks one could be something more clever, such as the zigzag pattern from the floor of the Black Lodge or something.
  • I must admit, I don't understand the Mad Men poster. Is it a Season 3 thing? Because I haven't seen Season 3.
  • is this bad Internet sarcasm?
  • 650, bro
i think its just hard to tell what it is at first glance. it took me a minute to tell it was a glass of scotch or whatever the fuck don draper happens to be drinking at the moment. something brown. and strong.

I'm starting to see why people hate this trend...these are terrible. People who hang these on their wall must enjoy being both boring and obvious.
  • Trollblaster
Prickish, condescending and judgmental...that's the holy trinity of message board douchiness.

    Well done, sir.
  • BeatrixKiddo
    The irony is killing me.

    Well done, sir.

ps love these posters I`m going to get my boyfriend one for his b-day!
  • Dr_Gonzo
You just described your own post you idiot. Can't the guy have an opinion without being lambasted by some moron who thinks he's the internet police?
  • BeatrixKiddo
"Not going to bother, there is no accounting for taste. Again, you either like the posters or you don't...to each their own. I just objected to the tone and responded in kind."

This may be true but it still doesn`t remove the irony from the situation :P

"It wasn't his taste I disagreed with, but the arrogant, condescending broad strokes he painted anyone who enjoys the posters with."

These are your own words and they clearly illustrate why Tiwa's comment was arrogant. It's what you should have called him on in the first place :)

"And I'm not chasing you and Beatrix down that age old "You commented on MY comment, why didn't you just shut up" rabbit hole. That's a tried and true message board tactic and it won't work on me. "

I`m not sure what that is referring to but I definitely want to here your opinion but I`d prefer if it was constructive and not just counter productive. I don`t agree with Dr_Gonzo thinking "you're a person of low intelligence". From your responses it's clear that isn`t true so don`t lower yourself that kind level of commentary. :)
  • Trollblaster
"See, the way you just replied to me with all the name calling and so on just proves that you're a person of low intelligence."

And the part where you called me an idiot? What does that make you exactly? Pot meet kettle.

And I'm not chasing you and Beatrix down that age old "You commented on MY comment, why didn't you just shut up" rabbit hole. That's a tried and true message board tactic and it won't work on me.

"It never ceases to amaze me how people get so cocky protected by the anonymity of the internet. In reality, in person, if we were in the same room you'd humble yourself dude. Trust me."

*Holds mirror in Dr Gonzo's face*

    @Beatrix

"Not to mention that all your "snarky" comments stem from you disagreeing with Tiwa`s taste.

Not true. It wasn't his taste I disagreed with, but the arrogant, condescending broad strokes he painted anyone who enjoys the posters with.

"Although I do agree that Tiwa didn`t need to mock the character of the people who by them, and if that bothers you then challenge Tiwa. Prove he/she is wrong instead of being what you are criticizing."

Not going to bother, there is no accounting for taste. Again, you either like the posters or you don't...to each their own. I just objected to the tone and responded in kind.
  • BeatrixKiddo
    @ Trollblaster

You really can`t see that all this name calling is portraying you as "Prickish, condescending and judgmental"?

Not to mention that all your "snarky" comments stem from you disagreeing with Tiwa`s taste.

You are being exactly what you are condemning.

I like the posters but Tiwa had the balls to disagree with everyones tastes and that makes this a more interesting comment board; It sparks debate. Although I do agree that Tiwa didn`t need to mock the character of the people who by them, and if that bothers you then challenge Tiwa. Prove he/she is wrong instead of being what you are criticizing.

Thats what debating is and for some reason it never happens on this site. All we get is name calling in it's place.
  • Dr_Gonzo
    @trollblaster

See, the way you just replied to me with all the name calling and so on just proves that you're a person of low intelligence. Your whole post is a contradiction see. Did you not react to Tiwa's post with a 'snarky' comment yourself? Right. You could have also ignored someone who 'disagreed with YOUR tastes' as you put it, but no YOU choose to get judgemental over someone giving their opinion. The fact that you decided to react by getting all nasty proves that you don't have the vocab to express yourself or the emotional intelligence to know when you've made YOURSELF look like a 'dillhole'.

It never ceases to amaze me how people get so cocky protected by the anonymity of the internet. In reality, in person, if we were in the same room you'd humble yourself dude. Trust me.

    Have a nice day.

I thought the one for The Simpsons was for Charlie Brown. Some of the others are neat (Dexter is cool). Oh and Sex and the City looks too much like the Canadian Tire logo.
  • Mr.Smith
    No "Breaking Bad"

    Fail
  • Trollblaster
What would you do for a Breaking Bad poster?

I mean really, ideas or STFU.
  • Lemmy_Caution
I would imagine that a Molecular structure diagram of meth would be appropriate.
  • Lemmy_Caution
Ha that is definitely a memorable image :P
  • YoungZer0
A bathtub with a hole would be awesome.
  • I don't really like most of these, but I loved the last batch of minimalist posters that were posted.
  • Raymond D. Douche
I agree, dude have to take some time off. He's been rushing the last ones.
  • These are alright.. I like some of the other posters that have been posted for films more. It took me a minute to figure out what the Mad Men one was. Duh! A glass of liquor.
  • Chance
HAHA! The Monk one - that would drive him nuuuts!
  • I share your obsession with minimalistic posters, Peter. These are cool, especially The Simpsons and Dexter. I'm afraid the 30 Rock poster is lost on me, can anyone explain what the bars represent?
  • I am completely obsessed with Dexter right now. I finally decided to start watching it after I heard about the Golden Globe wins, and I'm so glad I did. Definitely the best show I've watched in a very long time. It's so perfect. And that poster is sweet. I like the Monk poster too, they're the best.
  • Chance
    NBC Colors.
  • Of course! Thanks.
