zz775410b7MTV has released a new redesigned logo, after a 30-year run with the classic iconic Frank Olinsky-designed logo we all grew up with. The redesign isn’t that much different, mostly a one color close-up. The big change is the exclusion of the “Music Television” tagline, which had run underneath the original. Of course, this is a long time coming. as MTV hasn’t been considered a music television network in years. And today most of the program is teen-focused reality shows.

According to the press release, the new logo “represents a new visually defined MTV, stimulating its past, present and future and embracing it’s diversity. Everything from Jersey Shore, to the VMAs to collaborations with the MoMA. The logo is part of MTV’s re-invention to connect with today’s millennial generation and bring them in as part of the channel.”

    This show just needs to be taken off the air completely. It's not even that they don't show videos or concert's all the time now, but that fact that they put 24/7 garbage on their network. Shows like "Jersey Shore", that shitty teenage mother one, and the thousands of shitty real world shows/challenges are over the top, redundant, terrible shows.

    ...The one positive thing I can say for "Moronic Jizz rag TV" is that they have South Park on for an hour a day!
  • So wait, MTV use to play music videos...what!
  • San
    reality tv i bet
  • aomeng
    miramax by way of "the city of melborne" and the new "aol."
  • zoey
    mtv had music videos?
  • Been joking about it being 'Music Television' and the lack of music for years. At least they finally caught up with themselves.
  • DorienG
    I bet most of the kids that watch MTV now don't even know what MTV stands for...I'm so SO HAPPY I don't watch TV anymore. (unless an awesome quality show is on -> there are very few)
  • sharif
    ENHANCE!
  • ciceroDan
    I was just thinking about that!. I was scanning the posts to see if anybody else had put that in. Good job old chap.
  • That press release is a giant fail. "Stimulating" it's past, present, and future--even if it was "simulating", I still have no idea what they mean. It doesn't mean anything either way. And when people talk about the "Millennial Generation," they're not talking about people who are teenagers now, and that's really who MTV is trying to appeal to.
  • evilninjax
    Shouldn't it be the "SECOND Millenial generation"? :) I mean, there aren't a bunch of 1000yo people watching MTV are there?
  • juanv
    MTV SUCKS!!
  • mike
    Is that Warren from Greg the Bunny? wtf....
  • Why can't they just get rid of MTV? It's a piece of crap station, that just pollutes the minds of young, low-self esteemed horny teens.
  • Bisquick
    MTV. Irrelevant since 1997.
  • JesseWhitehead
    That press release is some truly astounding bullshit. I haven't heard pretentious PR spin like that since Mr. Pibb became Pibb Xtra. It sounds like the words of someone who has never watched MTV but knows about it.
  • Chad
    looks like they took the M from Miramax since it's gone now.
  • I guess it shouldn't surprise me that MTV would hire a PR person who doesn't know how to correctly use the possessive form of "its" rather than "it's".
  • Ah, at least now they admit it.
  • MTV should be ashamed of themselves. I haven't watched that channel in over a decade, and I'm not even 30 yet. I wish I could use the power of my mind to destroy everyone who turned that network into what it is today. But since I can't, I'm gonna order a SHITLOAD of pizzas, send them to MTV headquarters and make them pay for them all. ZING.

    I miss "Dead at 21".

    Just sayin'

    Why is this even a subject on a movie blog? Mtv doesn't deserve to be on Slash Film.
  • ronisandy

    MTV drops music from it's logo, and the entire world utters a collective "DUH!"
  • dogless
    MTV needs to die. They are promoting everything that's wrong in the world.
  • Mr Man
    You are SO RIGHT. Cheap, slutty, dumb, ignorant, short attention span, lazy, spoiled, bratty, insolent, waste of space, dull-witted

    Just one short list of the things that describe what MTV is.

    But worse than that, it is culturally destructive. It has cheapened music, art, self-worth, hard work. It is breeding generation after generation of teenagers who don't really give a crap about anything.
  • ultimok
    Open Photoshop, open existing MTV logo. Select Crop tool, Crop, then save.
    That’ll be gazillion dollars please. Indeed a sad day.
  • Dave
    NOT EVEN PHOTOSHOP EVEN PAINT CAN DO THAT...MTV SUCKS SINCE YEARS AGO..TOO BAD..
  • John Debono

    In MTV's defense, channels like MTV2 and MTV Hits/Jams still show music videos 24/7. I'm not sure if those are channels you have to subscribe to or not though.
  • Rosario Lopez
    Ugh MTV Hits/Jams has really been going down hill lately. Before they had zero commercials and everything was music videos. Now they literally have commercials everywhere and im talking 10min commercials. I guess thats the price we have to pay for if we want 24/7 music.
  • jamies
    i've been noticing lots of stations doing this now!! SERIOUSLY long commercial brakes, like 10 minutes literally! i wonder if it has something to do with so many people being able to dvr and fast forward through commercials these days.. i'd like to see the numbers on how much actual tv show time is in the half hour or hour shows..
  • thatsheavydoc
    And you know what? Bravo for MTV Jams. I watch that all the time when I need something to do and my DVR isn't full of the movies I've recorded off of encore.
    Speaking of which, if anyone is reading this, don't get Encore. It's full of B-Rate older movies and it takes a long time surfing to find a good movie to record. Spend your money on Starz or HBO instead.
  • jamies
    same with the channel "This", which may just be a Milwaukee area show. B rated older movies, although it's fun to see movies of the stars before they were famous. or good. :)
  • thatguyrom
    MTV 2 was actually pretty watchable and reminded me how awesome MTV was back in the day. That all changed though, when the execs decided to fill MTV 2's entire line-up with MTV's older, shitty reality shows.
  • freemachine
    MTV Tres is almost exclusively music videos (they're pretty entertaining even if you don't speak Spanish).
  • MarkoP
    Oh and speaking of things covering things that have little to do with their intended purpose, what does this have to do with film?
  • Here we go again...

    If you check the top bar you'll see that /film covers:

    * Casting
    * Comic Book
    * Horror
    * Remakes
    * Sci-Fi
    * Sequels
    * The Buzz
    * TV
  • Peter and Russ post about TV related tidbits all the time. Lost and 24 get posts once every week or so, even during the offseason.

    And MTV does have a film division, so it does actually relate to film
  • starscream9289
    Might as well name it "Reality Television".

    HAHA!

    Love the V for Vendetta style alliteration with the M.

    Mundane, moronic, myopic..... media!!!
  • This is a change?

    "Closer Phil! Zoom In!"
  • mangoshakes
    it actually makes me feel claustrophobic. please zoom back out!
  • MarkoP
    So what does the M stand for?
