Hotel Hell Vacation 14 Minute Short Film

Hotel Hell Vacation
Back in November, we told you that Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo would be reprising their roles as Clark and Ellen Griswold from the National Lampoon’s Vacation movies, but not for another big screen sequel (not yet, at least…). The Griswolds reunited instead for an advertising campaign for HomeAway launched during the 2010 Super Bowl. The television spot advertised a new Vacation “mini-movie” titled Hotel Hell Vacation, featuring Chase, D’Angelo, and an exact replica of the film’s iconic Wagon Queen Family Truckster. Here is the official plot synopsis:

Ride along as The Griswolds hit the road again. This time theyre on their way to see Rusty at his vacation rental. They stop at a hotel and typical Griswold madness ensues.

The 14 minute short film is now online, and embedded after the jump.

I could barely make it through this “short film,” and that is coming from a guy whp enjoyed most of the National Lampoon Vacation series (yes, even Vegas Vacation… but not the Cousin Eddie spin-off craptacular). I’ve said it before… John Hughes is probably rolling around in his grave.

What could I say about this... It needs a little redesigning because as it is right now, it won't impress a lot of people.

it's not the same w/ 'ellen' and that horrid mistake of a face.

Pretty mediocre, to say the least. (And I'm a big Chevy Chase fan!)

Most of us could have directed something better, no doubt. The valet scene wasn't bad, though.
  • HORRIBLE!@#

I thought it was pretty funny!

I actually really enjoyed this and found it funny. Nothing can touch the originals, but on its own, this was enjoyable.
  • Not perfect, but it was decent enough.
  • Horribly shot, edited, cheap production.
  • Dadadafan
Why was it shot like "The Office" ???
  • Are they doing a new movie?

Besides the valet kid, that was rubbish. I hope the reboot/sequel they're doing is nothing like this.

I didn't think it was terrible, but it definitely wasn't up to snuff with the first or Christmas Vacation.

After seeing Clark and Rusty make a "reunion" on Community, it's disappointing not seeing Anthony Michael Hall reprising his role as well.

Yeah, I was very disappointed when I watched this.

    The valet kid was funny.
  • Loved that they went back and did this, but it was bad! at least get one of the real kids, i mean on of them works on CBS. It could of been better and more funny
  • Gripster
Well the kids were completely different in every movie anyway

Beverly D’Angelo has taken care of herself. She looks good.
  • FunkyMunkey
Well, her plastic surgeon has certainly looked after her...

Pretty poor vid, but it is pretty much an advert, so it's not surprising.
  • freemachine
IF she had surgery, the doctor is a fucking genius. I expected this response, and all I can say is that she really does look natural. I can't detect any lift/stretch at all. Plus, she does look old...never said she looks half her age...just that she looks rather good.
  • FunkyMunkey
Really? The surgery certainly isn't as awful as some I've seen, but she's certainly had something done. At the very least she's had injections in her lips (definitely some trout pout going on there!) and botox as those cheeks and forehead look horribly bloated.

Damn, she was fine when she was younger, but such is life... nothing lasts, and that's the way of hollywood.
  • Clark W Griswold
    This is terrible.
