The /Filmcast: After Dark is a recording of what happens right after The /Filmcast is over, when the kids have gone to bed and the guys feel free to speak whatever is on their minds. In other words, it’s the leftover and disorganized ramblings, mindfarts, and brain diarrhea from The /Filmcast, all in one convenient audio file. In this episode, David Chen, Devindra Hardawar, and Adam Quigley talk about internet fanboyism, their feelings about The Truman Show and Gattaca, their most anticipated films of 2010, and their thoughts on the Late Night wars.

God DAMN you nailed it right on the head about the way fanboys get all emotional, defensive and tantrumy about their favorite films Dave. It's like anyone who doesn't share their blind adoration for a property is a threat to them personally and they get all Neytiri and bare their teeth and gnash and wail. Except that where Neytiri comes across formidible the fanboys come across immature, desperately naive and emotionally retarted. It was a bad enough lameness when it attached itself to TDK but it seems even worse with AVATAR. They're a pox on film discussion, a festering pestilence of prepubescent stench on the internet and they're a fucking embarrassment to the potential of the entire human species.

In happier feedback, my top ten most anticipated of 2010 runs as follows -

    1. Room In Rome
    2. Room In Rome
    3. Room In Rome
    4. Your Highness
    5. Room In Rome
    6. Room In Rome
    7. The Expendables
    8. Room In Rome
    9. Room In Rome
    10. Clash Of The Motherfucking Titans

David Chen, thanks for bringing up the sexism still inherent in film criticism. It's always good to see men recognizing a culture of sexism, no matter how subtle, and trying to do something about it. Next step: hire some women to write for this site ;)

Devolution of the leading man: Russel Crowe > Hugh Jackman > Eric Bana > Gerard Butler > Sam Worthington

    All but Butler are Aussies.
  • Bucho
Crowe is a kiwi, he only lives in Aus.

And it's not that I think you're wrong Justin, I've been commenting on the way the action leading man has been on the slide for some time now, but there are still solid and charismatic guys like Dicaprio, Damon and Downey doing good work and although Bale's star is dimmed I still count him as a contender. But your equation is right on the money, Butler and Worthington particularly do absolutely nothing for me.

    Scottish kick more ass.
  • The only two films I can think of worth getting excited for in 2010 are Inception and Black Swan. Jesus Chirst this year is looking terrible.

Hahaha, David doesn't like Tim Burton, I'm so glad to finally hear someone respectable in the film critic circle say that. I can't stand Burton, except Big Fish.

    5. Tron 2
    6. The Social Network
    7. Your Highness
    8. Clash of the Titans
    9. Predators
    10. The A-Team
    11. Edge of Darkness
    12. Harry Potter 7 part 1

    16. Toy Story 3

    19. Hot Tub Time Machine
    20. A Nightmare on Elm Street(only because I know Jackie Earl Haley will kick-ass as Freddy)
  • I am interested what about the social network interests you? It's not an insult I'm just not that excited for it.

    The script is awesome.

David Fincher, a well cast Timberlake, and what sounds like a fairly interesting plot has me curiously interested.

Also, new Harold and Kumar movie probably won't happen. Kal Penn is working for Obama now, I don't think they've even started filming.

"you did not mention ironman 2" - LOL!!

"there is something about that trailer that rubs me the wrong way..." - i 100% agree and could care less about this franchise whatsoever. fuck all that iron-cat-dolls nonsense.

i reflect on that TDK diss that downey jr. gave in 08', & i just laugh at how 'wrong' him/fav & their formulaic no-risk approach are.
