Battle: Los Angeles Set Photos

Battle LA set photos

A batch of photos from the Louisiana set of Jonathan Liebesman’s Battle: Los Angeles have been discovered online. The photo features Aaron Eckhart as a Marine staff sergeant, and was taken on base in Camp Horno in the 53 area of Camp Pendleton on December 17th 2009 by Jonathan Hoffon. For those of you who don’t know, Battle: LA is an alien invasion story, which is presented as an intense real-time war movie from the perspective of a group of Marines. It has been described by some as “Blackhawk Down” meets “Independence Day”. See more from these photos after the jump.

The photo below was taken by manwithscaryspouse (via io9), who said that the “Mushroom cloud of fire” was caused by a bus explosion. The sequence was shot in Shrevesport, LA (the other L.A.) in September, before production switched to “more pyrotechnics in Baton Rouge neighborhoods in October, including  areas downtown, the Perkins Overpass District and the Garden District and City Lake area, where filming under banks of lights lasted into the wee hours of the morning.”

Here is the official plot synopsis:

When unknown forces put the City of Angels under attack, it’s up to a Marine staff sergeant (Aaron Eckhart) and his new platoon to come to the rescue. As the invasion hits the streets of L.A., the Marines become our first and last line of defense against a highly powerful enemy. Bridget Moynahan (I, Robot), Michelle Rodriguez (Avatar) and Michael Peña (World Trade Center) co-star alongside an ensemble cast including Ramon Rodriguez and Ne-Yo.

Liebesman is probably best known as the director a couple mediocre horror films, Darkness Falls and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. His single-room thriller, The Killing Room premiered at Sundance in 2009 to mostly positive reviews, and proved to me that he was a talented up-and-coming filmmaker that just hadn’t been given the right opportunity to shine. Could Battle: Los Angeles be a redemption for Liebesman?

Frankly, I'm annoyed that they didn't film in Los Angeles. Being from here - the freakin' home of Hollywood - I enjoy seeing my city in film. WTF?
  • redhawk23
its fairly ironic, L.A. filling in for so many other cities and then having a movie actually set ther filming in in....Louisiana? lol

That's not the Captain America suit I was looking forward to...

Would some ask Aaron Eckhart to please stop looking like Scott Bakula?
  • that'll be quite the Leap

Who gives a crap about this poor man's version of District 9? This feels like a straight to video sequel of Blomkamp's masterpiece just like those awful sequels to Starship Troopers. The aliens attack and the military just fight them off. Boring. I wish they would have tried to think of something original for a change.
  • Btw, NOT that Great of a Movie

I'm waiting for Blomkamp's Follow-up to decide HOW Great he is, District Nine was aight

Don't praise it like it's the 2nd Coming, Sheesh...Degrading another movie, and bringin' an "aight" Movie, with Decent F/X Solid Acting, and Refreshing Perspective Storyline, whatnot, is not to say a fan of Sci-Fi appreciates the Genre, as it is, Fromage and aLL

We don't need "elitist" thinking, and AnaL-RetentiveNeSS, SON?

    Seriously, LTFU

wait. you got this from a brief summary and 4 pictures?

No, I 've seen the crappy "sizzle" reel and know that Jonny Liebsman is a hack.
  • If you're SUCH a High-Cultured Cineaste, or whatever, then by jove, why don't you cut a reeL of Some Bad@SS Sci-Fi Action?

Talking shit comes easy to those who just observe...And yours is blatant disregard, the attitude of a person with a chip on their Shoulder...

    Lighten the F*** Up, DUDE

Aaron Eckhart looks perfectly rugged and ripped.
As though he "burned the fat off his soul", as Hemingway put it.
Anyway. Enough of the photo - the main comment to this article is:
Aliens and Military is always a welcome combination.

old and sexy... yum old guy cock...:)
  • capawesome
He looks old in that pic because of the shitty HDR effect on the photo
  • Dan W
Yea I was thinking the same thing. And yea why would anyone want Ne yo in a movie? There are plenty of other credible black actors who deserve a spot in the movie more than ne yo. And for the record Ne-Yo might be the worst name I've ever heard
  • Battle:LA
I must say I worked on this movie, and Neyo deserves more credit than what everyone is giving him.
He was amazing as an actor and a person on set.
  • alan
u said more photos thes are the same two just more detailed
  • Peter Griffin
    Ne-Yo? ...I'm out.
  • Michelle Rodriguez? ...I'm out.

Although, to be fair, I'm not entirely opposed to this movie, it sounds like it has the potential to be fun.
