Toy story 3 clip

Initially planned to debut during tonight’s screening of The Incredibles on the ABC Family Channel, our first extended look at Toy Story 3 series has already rolled up online. As you’d expect, it’s something wonderful and you can see it after the break.

Director Lee Unkrich appears in an introduction before the new scene and an outro at the end, but there’s no new revelations in what he has to tell us. This clip is all about the footage from the film.

Kudos to Coming Soon for sourcing this already.

Did you spot that the shots in which Andy drops Jessie into the bag echo a beat from Woody’s nightmare near the start of Toy Story 2? And seeing him hold Buzz and Woody like that calls back to shots in both of the previous films, I believe. It still all feels so fresh, though, and nothing like a lumpen string of in-jokes and references because all of these beats are necessary and tell us the story.

The biggest, most exciting story point in the clip for me was the revelation of Andy’s different feelings towards Woody and Buzz. That’s the seed for some brilliant material, I’m sure.

Though we see the repercussions of there being two look alike black bags, the pay off to there being twin cardboard boxes still needs to be guessed at. I think there’s a pretty clear clue in one of the recently released pictures, though. The official synopsis makes it clear that the toys are headed to the Sunnyside Day Care centre, the fun will be in seeing just how they wind up there, I guess.

I’d be interested to find out if this is temp score. We know that some days of recording have been completed by Randy Newman and the orchestra, so this could very easily be a fully completed sequence, exactly as we’ll see it in cinemas, scale, resolution and 3D aside. At this size at least the CG rendering looks complete, and very nice indeed.

This clip was great! It definitely had the classic Toy Story feeling to it. The best moment for me was Buzz's reaction when he was thrown into the bag, he was all like "wth?" I also loved when Woody sees the garbage truck. You know it's going to be fun after that. It's amazing thinking back when I first saw Toy Story 2 about 9 years ago (I first saw it on VHS, not at theaters), at about 6 or 7 years old. Now I'm 16 (I'll be 17 when this is out).

I remember desperately wanting a Toy Story 3 after seeing the end of Toy Story 2, and while I've loved the majority of Pixar's non-Toy Story films, part of me was a bit disappointed that a 3rd film probably wouldn't be made. I learned about 2 years ago that Pixar, however, was going to make it after fighting over the rights with Disney. If it weren't for Pixar's other stellar films, I'd have a reason to be worried. But I really enjoyed both WALL-E and Up most recently, so I feel liek TS3 will deliver. If this film is on the same plateau as the first two and other Pixar films, then Toy Story will probably be my favorite movie trilogy ever.

I know I had two moments where I gasped:

    1. When Andy threw Buzz in the bag.
    2. When I saw the garbage truck.

Damn Pixar. Making me care about computer generated child's playthings!!!
  • Who Ha
Dang. The fact that it was TS made me totally forget I was watching just a promo clip online. When the garbage truck cut away back to the logo and Lee, I desperately went through a range of emotions resulting from the clip being over.
  • Fuck you, Pixar.
Yeah, fuck you for emotionally investing me in these characters I've loved since the first time I stepped into a movie theatre. I caught myself shaking in my seat by the end.

This just looks too good... The graphics and shit, it's amazing. I like watching an upgraded Toy Story but that doesn't mean the first has a solid place in my heart.

    Save 'em, Woody!

The music cue that comes in right when Andy's deciding between Woody and Buzz directly recalls "I Will Go Sailing No More" from the first Toy Story...you know when Buzz tries to jump out of Sid's window, only to come crashing to the floor and lose his arm.

Isn't that just the standard Toy Story theme?
  • dumb
