force-unleashed
We don’t normally cover much game-related stuff here (unless it’s regarding yet another dreaded game-to-film adaptation), but we came across the following trailers for some hotly anticipated, semi-movie-related, game sequels, and figured there would be no complaints. Especially since these are some fantastic trailers for Batman: Arkham Asylum 2 and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2.

We knew the latter was coming, considering the wild success of the first Force Unleashed game. The Arkham Asylum news was a bit more surprising — given that we’re only a few months away from the first game’s release.

Unfortunately, neither trailers show new in-game footage, but there’s more than enough to whet your geek appetites. First up is Arkham Asylum 2, in which we see the camera pan out of the asylum proper, and madness spread throughout Gotham. And of course, there’s a familiar face at the end.

Batman: Arkham Asylum 2 - Exclusive Debut Trailer

The Force Unleashed 2 trailer is a bit more involved, and features the former Vader Apprentice from the first game heading into an arena, where he’s confronted by a rather large monster. This time around though, the Apprentice has two blue light sabers keeping him company. I’m not sure if that’s hinting at a change of alignment, but it seems like a significant upgrade for the character.

It’s funny that we get both of these trailers at the same time, because both of these games were somewhat improbable successes. Arkham Asylum was the first Batman game to actually make it feel like you were embodying the caped crusader. Its focus on stealth was refreshing, and the fact that they rounded up the animated series’ voice actors made it all the sweeter. The Force Unleashed is undoubtedly one of the better things we’ve gotten from the franchise this decade — it’s honestly sort of shocking that the Apprentice character worked as well as he did.

  • Yes but he wasn't at the north pole. If you remember, his cell was in Arkham Asylum. The cell covered in ice was kind of a tip off. You scanned it so solve a riddle. And this game had nothing to do with the continuity of the Batman Tv Series. It was said a long time ago that it was based on 60 years of Batman Mythos. As for AA2, I'd like to see Clayface get some action, I always liked him. Same with The Ventriloquist. I always liked those villains. Gotta love split personalities.

in the iceberge scene, if u look up at the top right, theres a cat. Sign being Catwoman will probably appear in BAA2

they should improve the gameplay for the Force Unleashed 2, the first game became really repetitive. The scenery also was really boring. The best part of the game was the cinematics.

Those cinematics, rock! Especially the one with shaak ti!

You can also see Penguin walking into his club. and a Black Mask Refrence.

Looks like Uncle J is getting old.

    SPOILER

Didn't the apprentice die at the end of TFU?

Is the storyline still based when he was alive or he magically wasn't dead...
  • Rockie
loved Batman so much i beat it twice. normal and hard. no spidey sense on hard made it, well, hard.

and again give us battlefront 3 not a sequel to a clunky title.

The Force Unleashed was quite a fun game. I really enjoyed the story and the character. But the real pull of the game was the game play. It was a game where you really felt the power of the force "unleashed." I just hope they don't make you "learn" all the moves again in TFU2....that would be some real weak sauce. I wana be force lightning the crap outta people right from the get-go.
  • God, I can see it now -- the resurrection process left Starkiller with a memory lapse and for some strange reason he can't remember the powers he once wielded. Back to training we must go.
  • Thunderfug
If AA2 picks up right after AA, I'd say that's being pretty rough on Batman. The guy needs a break.
  • starscream9289
Crime doesn't take a break, and neither does the goddamn Batman.
  • Travis Stockton
I wonder if Nightwing, Batgirl or Robin will show up in this game? Since the whole city is under siege from the Arkham inmates, Batman could take more of a leadership approach and direct different characters to areas to help control an area.
  • thatguyrom
Around 25 seconds into the trailer, you can barely make out a "I Want You" poster. It looks to me like Two-Face in the poster. There's a better image of the poster over at arkhamhasmoved.com.

I would guess, judging from the ending to the first game and the newly released trailer, that Two-Face will have a much larger roll this time around. Also, judging from the declining health of the Joker, I would say that Two-Face would very well be the main bad guy in the game, if not, maybe second in command.

I just hope they bring back Richard Moll to voice Two-Face.
  • So just yesterday I thought "I only ever check movie news sites. How will I ever find out about the games that I'm excited to get?", which made me realize that the only game I'm excited for is Arkham 2 and which led me to find the trailer the morning after its debut. You guys rock.
  • Haven;t played AA or TFU but the trailer for TFU 2 looks, graphically, amazing.
  • presto117
AA is easily the BEST comic book game, and probably super hero game, ever made.
  • Travis McGee
I'm not so sure about this claim. Spider-man 2 was an amazing game. So was the first Marvel Ultimate Alliance. And that's just in the comic book genre.
  • presto117
I spent at least 30 hours playing Spider-Man 2. god, what a game... and UA was fantastic as well.
  • Yeva
The Incredible Hulk:Ultimate Destruction is my favorite Marvel based game. I loved the weight and feel of the hulk and the ability to make boxing gloves out of cars and run up buildings and perfectly done super jump.

So far it's definitely the best DC Universe video game. I've yet to see anything better.

Definitely better than Superman 64: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/angry-video-s...
  • dude
Yeah it's definitely up there as one of the greats. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 was awesome. Also, Ultimate Spider-Man was pretty sweet.
  • presto117
ultimate spider-man = numb thumbs and hours of smiles. i loved that game and i haven't played UA2, but i loved the first one.
  • The only trailer i enjoyed from the VGA's were the one of Medal of Honor and Spec Ops: The Line.
  • Reach!!
  • I really enjoyed TFU because it had a great storyline, so I'm kinda excited to see that Starkiller will return and *POSSIBLE SPOILER* wonder how they managed to keep him alive after the fight against Palpatine. Maybe Vader will save him (again)? But that wouldn't make sense since Vader only used him to bring all the Rebel leaders together so that Palpatine could kill them...No matter how they solve it, I'll definitely buy the game and find out!

The Arkham Asylum games look and feel including the characters is so great that i would love to see Warner Brothers give Paul Dini a shot at taking over when Christopher Nolan steps down.
  • ModernTenshi04
As writer I would agree, not sure about director. Should they decide to go with a female villain at some point, they need to get Dini in there at least as a consult. He's so good at writing strong female roles.
  • tim
I agree, Harley Quinn is his baby! I still believe the rumors that if Heath was still with us today, that the intention was for Harley to be in the 3rd Batman.
  • Merry Christmas. To tell you a shopping site. Very good product. Cool! ! ! ! Visit www.mallsony.com

My only AA criticism was that they didn't get the Commissioner Gordon voice actor from the animated series to come back. They get everyone else, but not him?

Desperately want to see a Mr Freeze fight with the same TAS voice actor. Never has there been a better portrayal of Mr Freeze than in TAS ( Batman & Robin makes me that much sadder, listening to the commentary and finding out from Joel that he put a lot of TAS in the movie).

I also hope The Joker has a major role, but isn't necessarily the MAIN villain. Having Mark Hamill ham it up is never a bad thing, I just hope they don't tire it.

I also felt Bane was wasted. Hell, it's an Arkham Asylum game, do the Broken Bat story line.

I'd love to see The Creeper now that they've established Jack Ryder.
  • ModernTenshi04
They weren't following any particular story line, opting to create their own kind of continuity to avoid having to uphold to a story standard or anything.

The script itself was written by Paul Dini.
  • The story takes place after the Broken Bat, methinks. It's in the bio.
  • dude
The story is based off of the graphic novel "Arkham Asylum"

  • Pretty cool, but if I remember right if you look at Bane's character profile it talks about breaking Batman's back.
  • Skid
Arkham Asylum was vastly superior to both of Nolans films. Hamill's Joker is also considerably better than Ledgers.
  • Peter R
While I am not sure if the game is better than the movies (which I didn't enjoy that much....especially The Dark Knight...) because I haven't played it, I certainly do agree with you that Hamill's Joker is better.

While Ledger was a excellent actor and his character was definitely fun to watch....he just didn't capture do it for me. Call me WRONG all you want...but just my opinion.

On the list of Joker's Ledger is third for me.
    -Mark Hamill
    -Jack
    -Ledger
-Old Campy Joker (who was a joke)
  • tim
Thank you Peter!!! I thought Heath Ledger did a good job, but that joker in the Arkham Asylum video game is the "the real deal"!! The look, the voice and the movements of that joker from the video game were perfect.
  • dude
ok ur opinion on the "Old Campy Joker" is wrong. Cesar Romero was and will always be THE MAN. And to compare any joker to his joker is a joke in itself because his was PERFECT.
  • Nickssfsn
    WRONG
  • Nickssfsn
Which isn't to say Arkham Asylum wasn't good, they were just good in different ways.

I will criticize AA for teasing villains and not being able to fight them, which we'd better be able to do in the next one. And a Catwoman love-sub-plot.
  • Roy
    2 games i want.
  • JD
Want these to games, you do.
  • presto117
the arkham trailer was cool. i like how they keep with the end of the game (sorta), if you know what i mean. i don't wanna spoil anything. i never played through TFU but this looks great. the first one was fun.
  • Mr GuestMan
As another person said, this illness could be a response to his overdose of the titan formula. I don't see how a gang of thugs could take over Gotham and turn it chaos, but it looks fun. However, TFU 2 looks impressive, I am not so sure about the plotline though. BAA 2 looks quite good, but it seems a bit rushed, I am yet to be excited about either.
  • duderino
these are cinematics, not gameplay. So it doesn't look like anything yet.
  • presto117
i know it feels pretty rushed since it just came out in august, but you have to remember: Arkham Asylum was delayed for a little while. i know it was at least supposed to come out in june for sure, and i think maybe even earlier than that, and they probably started production on this as soon as they finished (cause once you play the game, you KNOW it's gonna be a hit). that, and they already have the engine, so it's just a matter of making the stuff for the trailer.

and i never played more than the demo for TFU, but i know the story so this trailer.... confuses me lol.
  • dude
how did they keep to the end of the game?

    ::SPOILER::

Joker is locked up again, and Batman responds to a call about Two-Face and then we see Croc grab a super serum box from floating in the water.

I don't get where you see a connection in the new trailer.
  • Travis McGee
There are multiple endings to the game. You have to play through several times to see them all.
  • Two Face will be in it, in the trailer, you can see posters that have the "I WANT YOU" campaign similar to the ones from The Dark Knight posted on building walls.

Also, there's a bar down the alley way call the Iceberg Lounge. BRING ON THE ICE PUNS!
  • dude
Yeah but the the basics are still there, basically , it's just a different arm coming out of the water:
