WTF: Secret Wachowski Brothers Futuristic War Movie In Production?

Are the Wachowski Brothers shooting a top secret movie right now? This is the question I received in my email from /Film reader Seann A, who included a link to Arianna Huffington’s twitter account. Many of you will recognize Huffington as a syndicated columnist and co-founder of the liberal news website The Huffington Post.

Arianna sent out a bunch of interesting tweets today claiming to be shooting a part in a Wachowskis Brothers film, a movie about the Iraq War, from the perspective of the future. I would normally just write this off as not legit, but Huffington has posted photos from the set, one of which features Wachowski brother turned sister Lana Wachowski. Is it possible that the Wachowski Brothers have actually sneaked their next film into production without anyone noticing? Or is this just part of a short film, commercial, or test footage for a potential future project?

Anyone have any ideas or know anything more solid? We’ll keep you updated.

Updates:

Erik Davis (of cinematical fame) e-mailed me in response asking if it could be Cloud Atlas, the Wachowski Brothers-produced Tom Tykwer-directed adaptation of the postmodern novel by David Mitchell . But as far as I’ve heard, that film is still in the development stages and Tykwer just wrapped last week on a new feature called Drei (Three), so it is unlikely that he is back behind the camera so soon. Or maybe Tykwer is no longer involved?
Devin from Chud claims the Wachowskis are not yet in production, but are spending a couple says shooting “test footage” for their next project.

Jessie Ventura just did an interview on the Alex Jones show (look it up on youtube) where he talks about shooting for this film as well. He said it takes place 100 years in the future but never saw an actual script.

Try and be a bit more professional and DO NOT REFER TO THEM AS BROTHERS. It blows my mind that you do not have the respect to at least change it to SIBLINGS. Larry is now Lana. Which means that she is a girl.

While you may have a point, consider all the facts before you attack Peter for his choice of title. It has yet to be confirmed that Larry actually had any sort of gender reassignment, surgery or otherwise. All we apparently have is rumors and pictures of Larry cross-dressing. While Huffington refers to the second Wachowski as Lana, we can still only speculate on what that means.

Perhaps Larry is still only cross-dressing and has chosen to go by Lana. This would still make Lana the most appropriate name to use, but again, we don't know the situation. Because they're so private with their lives it's difficult to get Larry/Lana's preference on the topic, and really, that's what it boils down to: the person's choice. Not to put words in his mouth, but if I can defend Peter, he probably used "Wachowski Brothers" because that is still how they're known and no one, including the Wachowskis, has announced that that should change.

Pictures and a blogger's captions should not decide such things.

I'm sorry, but that article says nothing. It references a press conference that was either canceled or so secretive no press were actually in attendance and a Dateline NBC interview that never occurred.

"The Wachowski Brothers" is a brand, people recognize it. I'll admit, "The Wachowskis" would probably work in it's place, but until we actually hear what Larry/Lana prefers to be called nothing can really be done to combat what people call them. It's still only an unconfirmed rumor, and I'll say it again, pictures on Perez Hilton's and Huffington's blog hardly count as any sort of actual proof, besides maybe that Larry likes to cross dress.

The Wachowskis are public figures whether they want to be or not. If this was you or I then whatever, we do it, it's done, people go along with their lives. But that can't happen when you're a celebrity. When your name is famous and you have a brand image you eventually have to come out and tell people it's changed, which would be fine, and people would accept it, but that hasn't happened. Therefore people stick to what they know and more importantly what others will know.

Why would it be a joke? Sometimes people are transgendered, I'm not sure what it has to do with her films.

It doesn't even necessarily mean she's had a "sex change". Typically transgendered people will begin with hormone treatment, they don't always spring for gender reassignment surgery.
