Zombieland Sequel in 3D?

Sony hasn’t yet announced the development of a Zombieland sequel, but with a worldwide budget of over $85 million, it is likely only a matter of time. Moviehole has an interview with Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer, who revealed that not only is Sony interested in a sequel, but if they can “crack” the story for a sequel, it will probably be shot in 3D. Fleischer believes that “the genre really lends itself to [3-D]“, and is convinced the technology is now there. And who wouldn’t want to see a fun 3D zombie film?

As for the sequel, who knows when it might get off the ground. Fleischer has a bunch of potential projects lined up, and the screenplay hasn’t even been written, although there are plenty of ideas. As you probably know by now, Zombieland was conceived as a television pilot, and was rewritten to fill a feature film. Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick told io9 in October that they already planned a “23 episode season” out, “So divided by two that’s about 12 movies in our head swimming around.” … “And we’ll take what we intended to be episode three of the television show and start movie number two.”

  • I think budget should be gross or box office or whatever.

    2D is underrated.

    Enough with the 3D.

I thought Zombieland was pretty lame. The funny parts weren't that funny, the horror stuff wasn't scary enough, and when it wanted to be taken seriously I couldn't do that due to all the goofy scenes. It was basically a mess. It aimed for a cool horror comedy and it failed on all counts.

    You are wrong!

You are right. In the middle of the movie, there were these 45 mins in the movie where there was no zombie to be found. In that time it felt more like watching a teenmovie, with the guy and girl 'falling in love' (which seemed kind of forced, just because they were one of the few survivors left).

cib3k, you obviously have no sense of humor and failed to find the genius behind this masterpiece. I predict this movie will obtain the cult classic status it rightly deserves.

Budget is the cost of producing the movie, not the gross. It should be 'worldwide gross of 85 million' since that's what it earned that the theatres. The budget was 23 million.
  • I still don't understand why they believe 3D adds any extra hype. I'd be excited for a Zombieland sequel, but not excited about wearing the annoying glasses, getting the headaches and picking it apart because only 75% of the '3D' is actually effective. The rest is just annoying.

most people don't get headaches and the glasses don't bother me (or anyone else i know) one bit. i love 3D even when it's not used in actiony movies. it just adds an extra layer of visual depth, like in the toy story double feature and up, but it really shines in live action. i saw HP6 in Imax 3D and it was amazing. There's no way to describe it properly, but it really is. 3D doesn't need gimmicky moments for it to work, it just needs to look good.

I love that people still complain about 3D.

I wear glasses every day. And the whole goddamn world is three-dimensional. I've never had an issue with either.
  • is the director done crying about the internet? what happened to the threats about "stop downloading the movie or we wont make a sequel". Guess they made enough cash. PS- I saw this flick @ a drive in. Yes, drive in!
  • I wish this 3D fad would die.. AGAIN.
  • 3D ...i m not fan of it.... but Zombieland....hell-yeah!!! i m up fir it any day!!
