Rachel McAdams Denies Spider-Man 4 Casting Rumor

Remember that rumor that popped up last week claiming that Rachel McAdams had been cast in Spider-Man 4 as Black Cat? McAdams has responded, calling it pure internet rumor… but is it?

McAdams tells Entertainment Weekly that the story is not true.

“That’s a total rumor, I have to say,” the actress, who will next be seen in the Dec. 25 action-adventure tentpole Sherlock Holmes, tells EW. “I was hanging out in Toronto the other day and someone came up to me and said, ‘I just heard you’re doing Spider-Man 4.‘ And I said, ‘Really? No one told me!’ It’s not true.” A rep for Sony Pictures concurs: “It’s an Internet rumor, as so many things are these days.”

I hate to sound like a conspiricy theorist but I think that McAdams and Sony might be lying a bit.  Remember last week we also found out that Sony had put out a casting call for a new female lead for the fourth Spider-Man film, and that Romola Garai (Amazing Grace, The Other Man) has auditioned for the role. Garai is only a few years younger than McAdams, and certainly has the same look, which makes me think that McAdams was somehow involved in discussions for the role.

Also a new source confirmed that Black Cat is in the screenplay, but the character is now the daughter of the new man in charge of the Daily Bugle, who just happens to be one of Spidey’s new villains (which one, we’re not sure). We’ll see if this intell turns out to be true, but we have heard the same thing from more than one source.

If they get rid of J. Jonah Jameson...I am not seeing it...hes the best character in the movies! Peter Parker is a little whiny wussy....J. Jonah Jameson knows how to get it done.

Hmmm... So it looks like Black Cat might be in Spidery 4. Well I could roll with that if they do it well. At this point it's still too early to say who will or won't be in the movie and I'm not gonna get too worked up about it.

If Rachel McAdams ends up playing the part I can dig that. If not no biggie.

I thought McAdams would be perfect more Mary Jane since Red Eye. Lose Dunst, replace her with McAdams I say.
  • I guess it's too bad Dunst is already signed on for the fourth film.

    Yep. Too bad

Interesting develops, who really knows if she is or isnt going to be felica. But god please dont go making her dad some other different villain. We dont need to do a stupid change like that. I would think raimi wants to fix mistakes made by the studio last time in spider-man 3. We dont need her father to be some crazy different villain. I said when the news break here last week. I personally dont mind if he is taking over the bugle. But say he was still a cat burglar, and that is how he got his money. Then he bought power and influence from folks. Then we can say he does buy the bugle sorta like the dexter bennent character of current ASM stories. Then maybe her dad get bumped off by X other villain of the story. There is no dam reason to change his backstory at all.

Yeah, she responded to the rumor that she was DOING Spider-Man 4, not that she was up for a part.

I'm thinking the new villian is probably The Hunter.

Am I the only person in the world that couldn't give a shit about Spider-Man 4?
  • yes, I think so.
  • what’s the big differance in which order the villains should be in? You could have those villains in that order in the films and still it wouldnt mean the films would be better. Maybe people like you should go to Film School if it bothers you that much about where the franchise is goin. Many people would think otherwise.
