Leap Year Movie Trailer

Leap Year

Universal Pictures has released the first movie trailer for Leap Year, which is a romantic comedy about a woman who has an elaborate scheme to propose to her boyfriend on Leap Day.

Amy Adams and Matthew Goode star in Leap Year, a romantic comedy that follows one woman’s determined quest to get married to the perfect guy…despite what fate has in store for her. When their four-year anniversary passes without a marriage proposal, Anna (Amy Adams) decides to take matters into her own hands. Investing in an Irish tradition that allows women to propose to men on February 29th, Anna decides to follow her boyfriend Jeremy (Adam Scott) to Dublin and get down on one knee herself. But airplanes, weather and fate leave Anna stranded on the other side of Ireland, and she must enlist the help of handsome and surly Declan (Matthew Goode) to get her across the country. As Anna and Declan bicker across the Emerald Isle, they discover that the road to love can take you to very unexpected places.

From Anand Tucker, the director of Shopgirl and Hilary and Jackie, and based on a screenplay by Slumdog Millionaire writer Simon Beaufoy and Can’t Hardly Wait scribes Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan, comes another middle of the road romantic comedy where the female character appears to be reduced to a marriage obsessed spaz. I’d love to say that I’ll never see this film, but sadly, I’ll watch almost any movie that Amy Adams is involved in. Watch the trailer after the jump, and leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Leap Year hits theaters on January 8th 2010.

Of course, the film won't try to combine Wales and Ireland like that because that would be nuts. I hope.

And thanks, trailer people, for showing us the dramatic crux of THE CLIMAX like that. Jeez.

all looks the same to me

    =p jk!
  • Aaron Stokes
I'm with you on the "anything with Amy Adams" part.
  • Bob
    Yup, AA, cute as
  • TheGreenMalice
    That looks awful.
  • RandomHeroics
i second the amy adams comment. plus it's got a solid cast with kaitlin olson (sweet dee!) and john lithgow.
  • I was disinterested until this: "screenplay by ... Can’t Hardly Wait scribes Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan"

I love Can't Hardly Wait. Their involvement makes this at least a "rent it" or "watch it on HBO", in my book.

holy crap why do trailers ruin EVERYTHING now a days
  • thrillhouse
Agreed. There is no reason for any movie to show you something from the last 1/3 of a movie. And yet, movie trailers consistently do this. I mean, it happens on weekly basis now. It totally sucks. There's no reason for it.
  • thrillhouse
Also, what a shitty flying shoe gag.
  • uggh
Good job ruining the climax, thanks.
  • Is this really just an Irish thing. I'm from Ireland but didn't realise the rest of the (Western) world didn't follow the whole Feb 29th/proposal thing.
  • Personally, I am from the US and I have never heard of it. Maybe it is an Irish thing. Anybody else have input?
  • fanboy_d
I'm a Londoner, the tradition's the same here, girls can propose on leap years.
  • mgav
What gets me is- There's really no LAW that says women can't propose. It's just unusual. Why go all the way to Ireland to do it? Stupid and backward.
  • Michael_W
WHAT THE HELL. Why are trailers done like this.

New rule...nothing shown in a trailer past the first 1/3rd of the film. Can I get an Amen?
  • rnl
amy adams is better than this.
  • I love when they show the entire movie in a trailer. Guess I never have to see this.
  • Didn't look that bad, you know, up until the point where they showed the ending.... I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought "what the hell?" The movie doesn't look like it's going to be all the great but still, don't show the ending. I like how this trailer comes out not to long after the Dave's spoiler article.

    Gotta pay those bills.
  • Cool. Another one of THESE movies.
  • Rodrigo
Wow Peter, not one mention of Matthew Goode's role in Watchmen? Whoa...

Well I have to say, im not usually a big fan of RomComs, but goddammit this trailer (a very revealing one at that) made me giddy like a 15 year old Californian brat. Im definitely seeing this, I think it looks great to be honest. And thats something I wouldnt admit to my best friend lol.

And dont forget this screenplay was written by the same writer of Slumdog Millionaire, so I doubt this will be bad in any sense of the word. Sure, a few cliches here and there, but im pretty sure any girl that sees this on a date is falling in love...and putting out
  • freemachine
Any excuse to stare at Amy Adams' beautiful face. She actually made Battle of the Smithsonian watchable, so I'll probably see this even though it looks like a stinker.
  • goldfarb
I really liked this movie when I saw those other 60 movies.
  • GabeJa
Wow, talk about an entire movie in a trailer....I mean, wow. Well, Amy Adams is still incredibly fantastic, and that was the girl from sunny at the begining. So....theres that.
  • weeklyrebrew
I hate trailers that show you the whole movie. You don't even have to see it anymore. Not like i was going to anyways but still...
  • caleb
    the proposal revisited
  • johndebono
Really like Amy Adams, think Matthew Goode has talent and genuinely loved Shopgirl and Slumdog Millionaire but good God does this look awful.
Rental for me personally just because I think it may end up okay because of the talent.
  • xorith
    LOL, friggn terrible.

she loves this guy, goes looking for him and cheats on him with some other guy that she falls in love with to dump the original guy for this other guy just b/c he has an accent?

    ...
  • jdforslin
So the trailer may have given away the ending, but if that is in fact the end, is it really that surprising?
  • Chris
Are you kidding me? Why do they think showing the ENTIRE plot of the movie is a good idea? I've already seen it now. No need to go to the theater.
  • Artem S. Tashkinov
I don't know why but I like Matthew Goode so much, I will go watch this movie no matter what. Note that I'm male, but I'm not a gay.

I just loved his performance and voice in Watchmen.

Is there a point to even seeing it after that spoilerific trailer. Not that romantic comedies aren't the most predictable film genre out there, but still.
  • Patricia
Looks great - can't wait to see it!
  • sanyo
Adam Scott is so good in Party Down, it pains me to see him in such a crappy looking movie. Especially since he's not even starring. D:
  • Nick7er
Looks like a failed attempt at a romantic dramedy (which is a genre that I have to admit should be pretty hard to do well). I enjoyed the Snow Patrol music in the trailer though. :)
  • Karpet
"The Notebook" and "Forces of Nature" had a love child, it was a girl and it is called this movie.
  • noel
I can't wait to se it!i worked on the film.I even got to meet amy and matthew.parts of it were filmed here on the aran islands!
  • Fintan
I'm Irish and I can tell you that this movie does not portray the real Ireland .
1/ where are the vast modern suburbs. 2/where is the extendsive motorway system gone. 3/why are the accents so wrong. 4/why are the cars and phones from 40 years ago. 5/where do they find these antiquated houses, Ive lived in Ireland all my life and never saw such places, I think it must have been filmed in part on an offshore island and not Ireland proper. 6/ Why does the old drunken man who falls down offer her a lift, suggests Irish drink and drive,Ireland has some of the strictest drink driving penalties in the world, noone would offer to drive someone if they were over the legal limit, which by the way is lower than the U.S. limit. Please don't waste your money on this , your 9 bucks would be better spent watching anything but this drivel.
