Kick-Ass Teaser Trailer

Kick-Ass

Lionsgate has officially released the first teaser trailer for Matthew Vaughn’s big screen adaptation of Mark Millar’s comic book Kick-Ass. For those of you who haven’t been following this project, the film was produced independently and the first footage won over the thousands of people packed into Hall H at Comic-Con. The story is essentially about an average teenager named Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero.

As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name — Kick-Ass — assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There’s only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers. His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, is hunted by assorted violent and unpleasant characters, and meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes, including an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl (Chloë  Moretz) and her father, Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage).

The trailer is essentially a few of the bits shown at Comic-Con edited together. The opening sequence is brilliant, and works as well in short form as it does on the big screen. Some of the rest of the trailer doesn’t play as well. I think Lionsgate is going to need to release a red band trailer for audiences to see the full appeal of hit girl, and the flashy character intro screens seem a bit too Nickelodeon to me, especially considering the kind of movie this really is. Overall I think the trailer accomplishes a lot with the restraints of  the green band opening. I’m also glad they were able to keep some of the music from the temp cuts. Watch the full trailer after the jump, and leave your thoughts in the comments below.

i wanna see this. really really wanna. but god damn the music in this and clash of the titans need to go to hades.
  • kfizz
What is it with people hating good music. I know clash will have different music but kick ass that is part of the sound track so quit your bitching lol.
  • thankyoufor
the music sounds like they're going for "Whip-IT with superheroes"
  • Rockie
    look below to connofs post

i don't want to think about one of the greatest tv shows ever made when i'm looking at the quite possibly the best comic film since sin city. so i will bitch lol. bitch lol till my eyes bleed.
  • looks interesting but the music MUST go!
  • the song is fine. it works in the film, for the most part it works here. it's fitting with the material. my only problem was the way it was edited into the trailer and how it chops in and out at the end.
  • Drew
Misleading trailer, to be sure, but as a gigantic fan of the book I gotta say this gets me excited!!
  • asdft
I'm curious as to what's misleading about it?
  • jpooch
Its misleading because it kind of suggests that it is going to be for all audiences when in fact there will be more blood, more deaths and more foul language than any movie next year... and that is just from Hit-Girl
  • connorf
what is this Freaks and Geeks?!
  • very nice trailer. I really want to see this movie now.
  • RosanatorDA
if i didnt know anything else about this, id saw this looks like a better mystery men, kids instead of adults though.
  • Swarley
Don't say "better Mystery Men" I almost shed a tear.
  • Palmer
I kind of miss the Superman theme at the beginning of the trailer.
  • I want to see this movie NOW! i am so incredibly hyped for this film.
  • Doowop
Biggest/Best surprise of Comic Con, hands down.
  • Nate N
Even though I feel a little mislead from the hype we've received to the trailer they've presented... I know that /film rarely misleads us and that this will be a pretty awesome movie!
  • justrobby
Paranormal Activity was CRAP, and /Film hyped that up quite a bit.

As with this film, i saw a leaked trailer a while ago with Hit Girl about to shoot some guy in the face, and she was wearing a school girls uniform or something, now that trailer was awesome.
  • freemachine
    Meh...Sky High 2.
  • dillonjames32
yeah I saw it. you're so very wrong
  • craigery
    ahaha DILLON.

ya we saw it at a screening, it was great
  • You have no idea how violent this is.
  • REAL_NIGGA
    Not. Even. Close.

What about the evolution of Matthew Vaughn?? Guy Ritchie's producer up thru Swept Away (cough, cough). Then he directs Layer Cake's gangsters (high quality) and Stardust's fantasy (high quality, high ambitions). Now, with Kick Ass, he's into comic book heroes in what looks to be an awesome flick.

I predict that Matt Vaughn will be in the top-tier of filmmakers for the next decade.
  • Shane
That was a tad disappointing. As a huge fan of the comic and having seen the leaked comic con footage I know this will be awesome, but that was a little misleading.
It makes it look like any normal comic movie, only now with kids. They could have at least shown him getting the shit beat out of him by those dudes trying to steal the car. To show that he's not a very good hero, and that real life isn't like the comics.
  • Wiimo
I'm not familiar with the book, but this looks pretty good. It made me laugh a few times so hopefully that sort of comedy is spread throughout the film and not just played up in the trailer to make it look like that. The main character seems solid, love his accent. Now I just want to see more!
  • Oh-fficially PSYCHED! Love Millar. Looks awesome.
  • Well, it's pretty much just like the comic, so yea.

    It's kick-ass.
  • [A]
Cool teaser. I really liked it. Now I wanna see more Hit Girl.
  • dillonjames32
She's the best part of the movie
  • thatguy
Why is David's hair jet black and not dirty blond? Yes, I'm going to nitpick about this.....
  • Fredo
Now THAT looks cool! MUCH better than the Clash of the Titans teaser.
  • jasonb26
LOL!!! epic victory! i am stoked for vaughn, millar & all involved!!!
  • GabeJa
WHY THE FUNK DID THEY CHANGE THE OPENING MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!! BAH IT WAS SOOOO PERFECT. FIGHT FOR THOSE RIGHTS KICK ASS PEOPLE, FIGHT I SAY!!!
  • Guest
they most likely had to change the music cause of copyright issues
  • Danos
Yeah, I'm sorry, but this looks awful.
  • presto117
the trailer has to meet the guidelines, which is why this looks like it'll be PG-13, but it'll be very much "R"
  • Major points lost with the Thus Spoke Zarathustra at the beginning
  • Being half-Armenian, I wonder why they chose a "mentally ill armenian"...is that in the comic or something?
  • Dan SOLO
it's in the comic, I wouldn't read to much in to it.
  • forgoneconlusion
I guess the 'mentally-ill Armenian' jab was meant as humour. It is quite unfortunate that Holloywood execs think it's cool to poke fun at the mentally ill and a genocide stricken minority all in the same sentence. The trailer wasn't that great anyway...
  • Aly
They weren't. They were pointing out that only someone who was mentally unbalanced would attempt such a stunt in real life. The nationality of the person is both incidental and arbitrary.
  • keesvd
hmmm.. meehhh... I was looking forward to this but the teaser is kinda bad...
  • Danisgod6491
a shtty movie based off a shitty comic. Mark Millar is the Michael Bay of Comics. And should never be let to write one again.
  • LuMendz
Great! I've just bought a ticket to the hype train! So wanna watch this!
  • It looks fun, I'm so going to enjoy this.
  • soupcan58
Watched the trailer, thought I may as well give my opinion since I'm a fan of the books. The trailer has some good points (Showing us Kick-ass in costume, and showing us a small bit of Hit Girl's fight), and it had some bad points (being a green band, they had to leave the copious amounts of violence out, and loosing the piece from Superman). Overall, if I didn't have the leaked Comic-con footage to go off of, I'd be completely on the fence. But thanks to that footage, I'm gonna say I'm still going to go (unless we somehow see less violence in the trailer than we saw in the footage).
  • The music is sadily evoking my childhood memories of Shrek. Not a good place to start from.
  • thankyoufor
    WORST TRAILER EVER!!!!!!!
they better not mess this up
If i didn't know what director was behind this than i would've immediately took it off my anticipated list.
  • optimusprime24
    Looks really cool. Can't wait
