  • Great show, guys! And that twat sending negative tweets about the show can suck it!
  • Kelvin
    Enjoyable show as always.

Ignore the haters, it's always good when you get a famous actor/director on the show for a more inside view of Hollywood and how it works (the Kyle Newman episode in particular). In addition, these people give detailed thoughts on their own work which is interesting.
  • Da Best
This is one of my favorite movie podcasts. I never miss it. It is a rarity and David, Devindra and Adam are a great combination. This is one of the best movie podcasts out there. It's not pretentious and not about self-promotion, but about a genuine love of movies.
  • jaewoo
    I agree with you.
  • Frog1387
Human Resource Exploitation Manual is online. found it on The Box movie site.

I'll be posting positive comments David Chen, I don't have twitter however. Love the show.

    Good podcast!

With respect to Battleship, Aliens, and the actual gameplay: because one player does not know the location of the other other ships, it would be reasonable to the plot if the humans cannot easily detect/find the aliens and thus have to take the proverbial "shot in the dark."

I really enjoyed the Box and I also agree that, having seen "A Serious Man" beforehand helped me, as I accepted the mystery of why people got from Point A to B or did a certain action. Definitely think it's Kelly's best work and the ending is very questionable as to the true fate of Marsden. In fact, both films are very similar in nature and ambiguity, in a very kindred-spirit sort of fashion.

    I love these podcasts.
You, Seen Unseen, IFC and Spill fill my pc (and mind) with movie loving.
  • Great show, guys. Keep it up. And I'm with you guys, first time I heard about Prince of "Causcasia" I thought, "Hear we go again re: Dragonball, Last Airbender". [sigh]
  • JR
    great podcast guys. thanks!

    Spoilers fo' life!

I love this Podcast. Great platform for discussion and thought!

My responses for SPOILERS For "THE BOX"!! :

I was fine with the zombie-ish people because that element of the story (like most of the elements in the rest of the film) can be sort of left ambiguous, for an audience member to make their own mind up about. For instance, I felt like the zombie people were those who had been tested by the higher power (alien intelligence/God) and had somehow not lived up to their standards (I.E. Pushed The Button/investigated the experiment).

Investigating the experiment, out of fear that their own lives might soon be in danger (at least Diaz's) resulted in Marsden having to choose a water coffin portal (which gave him a view of what the afterlife might feel like?) and the ultimatum given to the couple at the end of the film. To save their son from living a less-privileged life, Marsden shoots Diaz. I think it was destiny. If Marsden and Diaz hadn't begun investigating the experiment in the first place, then I think when the new couple at the end of the film pushed the button, maybe someone else who had pushed the button before, but hadn't begun investigating the whole situation (contacting police, etc.) would have died. Or maybe Diaz would have died anyway in some accident arranged by the shady alien-controlled zombie people upon the next button push.. Who knows for sure? I like the optimism in the midst of the depression at the end though, that Langella tells Diaz that she might be forgiven and that Diaz feels like she will see her lover again after their purgatory/Earth life..

Also, the link to the Human Resource Exploitation Manual is dead. Is there another way to get it?

Hey Guys! I'm feeling pretty bad for not posting a comment sooner. Had to wait for your plea... my bad. I love the show & ALL the guests! Keep up the great work! LOVE the Tobolowsky Files too.
  • thecellist
Great Episode guys! I am a huge Matt Singer fan and it was great to get another critic on the show.
  • mudywaters
Good stuff guys. Keep up the good work!
  • Loved 'The Box' and this weeks show. Anything that I can do to help the podcast such as posting a comment, downloading the show file, or forcing the elderly to listen... you know, I'm here to do whatever it takes : )

    great show guys

i got only one problem about Prince of Persia. you guys said you need a bankable lead actor to sale this movie to the general audience but what about Chris Hemsworth playing Thor. Chris Hemsworth is not a bankable actor his a unknown actor playing the lead role in Thor.
  • Octoberist
    samething with Star Trek.

I do have to say, in order to get more unknowns as the lead character, it has to be a thread that's consistently successful.

For example, with the success of Star Trek, let's say Thor becomes a hit too and made a star out of Hemsworth. If Prince of Persia was to be made in 2012, then I think they would go with an unknown. If that makes sense.

I enjoyed "The Box", and agree that I was super happy it wasn't what I walked in expecting. In regards to board game movies.. lame.. but candyland.... hm... Depending on which director lands the gig I'm sure could be pretty cool...

Another good show :) I very much enjoy the guest speakers, and will leave comments more.
  • Sgt. Pepper
I have yet to see The Box, so I had to end the podcast right before spoilers, but I still enjoyed the episode & wanted to immediately comment. I've been an avid listener for about 6 months now & have listened to most of the older episodes. I enjoy the banter between the 3 main hosts, but it's always refreshing to hear the opinions of other guests, especially those who are directly in the business (like Richard Kelly, Clifton Collins Jr., Kevin Smith, etc.). It would be a shame if you guys lost these kinds of opportunities, so I hope more of us continue to share our love of the show. Keep up the great work & thank you for giving up your Monday nights to keep us informed & entertained!
  • Octoberist
I feel like Richard Kelly is in the same category with M. Night. Of course, M. Night found more overall success with a few films before his 'downfall'.

Both directors are talented and made a big splash with their debuts. Then you have the very high expectations from the industry and the movie going public. Image the pressure! At least Fincher started out with Alien 3 before getting into his niche brand of movies; He had the time to figure out with to do and what not to do in order to achieve some sort of success.

Here, Kelly's next movie is extremely important. With the dissapointing BO of The Box, I'm curious to see what he does next...I hope for the best.

Always a great show with Mr. Singer. This is by far my favorite film/television podcast, great crew and superb discussions. Keep it up yall!
  • Great episode, guys! Also, I love it when you bring in guests so please continue to keep doing that! They have all been great but, I particularly liked Rian Johnson and Marc Webb.
  • Great episode as usual. You guys dominate. This is my favorite podcast.
  • Thomas
Hi guys, Thomas from Switzerland here. You guys are über-geeks, but that's ok. Great podcast, way more interesting and topical than Scene / Unseen. Guests are great too. Please keep on pointing out which DVD/BluRay includes great commentary tracks and therefore deserve to be bought.
  • JollyDrifter
This show is AMAZING. ah I got nothing else, keep up the good work.
  • Great show. It's always great getting the perspective of directors on other movies.
  • smrtalec
Just finished listening to the podcast while on my way home from school. Had to stop it just before the spoilers because NOW i am feeling more intrigued than ever to go out and see The Box.
Doing a great job with the podcast! Can't wait to hear what you guys have to say about Fantastic Mr. Fox and 2012 on next week's episode.
  • jimbo134
I'm not gonna comment just cause you ask me to...

... good show keep em coming
  • kotaronakagawa
Man, was Matt Singer's voice impression Roger Rabbit or Neil Goldman from Family Guy? heh heh hilarious.
  • hayson
Well you asked for some love in the comment section... so here it is! It's great stuff that you guys do, it's definitely something I look forward to on a weekly basis. Loved hearing from Kelly re: Southland/Donnie/The Box, and am really digging the stuff from Tobolowsky. Keep doing what you do, and for any of you publicists reading this, stop reading the comments and just LISTEN TO THE SHOW! It's gooood! (Even though I might enjoy the After Dark even more...)

    xoxo!
  • Robert Frank
Always a fan of the show, guys, even though I don't always have the time to listen live or keep up every week. Originally started listening when I heard Cargill was making an appearance. You bring in the most interesting personalities, and it'd be a terrible shame to see it end because some dick's throwing an insult tantrum online. (I mean, it'd be terrible for you to stop getting guests. Everybody knows that bizarre insults come along with the internet territory. The /Filmcast is much bigger than a lonely troll.) Keep me informed, crew!
  • Gargoyle
    Hey guys,

Love your podcast! I live in Bremen, Germany and listening to you makes me always feel so much closer to the american movies and the industry which in reality is so far away.
I'm a big fan of hollywood productions and really looking forward to Avatar! The great thing is, the movie even opens a day earlier (+ the time lag) over here because movies are always released on a Thursday in Germany. So we're at least a little bit ahead this time. :D
  • Steve_Kasan
I really enjoy it when you have Directors/Actors on because not only we hear about the film but aslo insights on the movie making process. Much like with Richard Kelly and how he talked about how much money is put into marketing and how that really is very important to a film.
Really enjoyed your assessment of the Prince of Persia trailer. Got the same feeling watching it as well. Looks mighty expensive. In fact, probably one set can pay for my mortgage and credit card debts.
Haha, Devindra, the only time Disney did right for us Brown people/South Asians is with The Jungle Book. And to some extent Aladdin.
Out of all the disney princesses, they drew Jasmine very hot. I was expecting quality for Belle from Beauty & The Beast considering that French girls are mint!
  • sfsilver
I couldn't agree with you more about "A Christmas Carol" You nailed all the flaws, but rightly left with an overall positive feeling bout the film. I was ready for it to be very ho hum, I mean was the world really clamoring for another adaptation of this? I know I wasn't. I really connected emotionally with this version in a way that I hadn't ever with any of the previous versions. I actually cried.
  • Casey
Matt Singer is probably bad ass enough that he smashes blocks of ice with his forearm in his spare time.

Great episode. The non-spoiler discussion made me want to go check out 'The Box' and see for myself.
  • Eric
Posting mostly cause of the request, but enjoyed the show thoroughly nonetheless. Keep up the work.
  • The intelligent and honest opinions in movie review and the always entertaining and intesting guest interview, these strong points is the reason why slash film is my top 20 entertainment podcast.

    I love you guys.
  • Johan
Great podcast as always, Mat Singer is a great guest.
  • Great show guys, please keep having Matt Singer more often.
  • Keith
Matt Singer, awesome as usual. Posting due to request, and will try to keep posting - sad that the guests never know how much we love them. It is very very rare that I don't love the guests you guys have on. It is nice to see you guys getting big pulls like famous directors and then also have someone on from a small film blog. Its a nice balance. Also, David Chen, I dont know why you have a different sign off for Adam Quigley, but I love it and lol hard every time.
