Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

IGN has introduced a cool new feature they are calling “Rewind Theater”, where they rewatch a recent movie trailer with audio commentary with one of the creative people behind the property. The first edition takes a look at Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time with the creator of the game, Jordan Mechner. It’s fascinating to watch the trailer with commentary as they rewind, pause, and slow-mo the action. You learn so much more about the film, and notice things you might never normally in fast motion. Watch the video embedded after the jump.

  • This is what I've always thought DVD commentaries should be like. Not watching the whole movie really, but skipping forward and pausing and going in depth on the little details.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the closest thing I've seen was the Watchmen Zach Snyder thing on BluRay (not saying that is a perfect example, as it didn't live up to expectations).
  • It's technological issues. All a commentary is is just another sound track. To rewind they would need a whole nother video track which would require a second DVD. This is for DVD especially. (I bet you know this but not everyone will so Im posting it here anyways).

They do it on The Simpsons Movie commentary (at least for Blu Ray).

Too bad that movie doesn't look cool at all.
  • Octoberist
come on. it doesn't look that bad.

Let's not group all mainstream Hollywood movies into one category.
  • goldfarb
    your right...
but lets put this one into the category that it very much belongs: the Pirates of Shit catagory.
  • Octoberist
    wonderful. just wonderful
  • Tetsuo_Man
    Lol, so true.

Can you reply with something like that to every "don't hate" comment on /film? I'm honestly getting tired of people defending stuff that sucks. On a side note, we really need somebody who can come up with a catchy reply for the "It's their opinion" people.

How do you know it sucks? It's not out yet.

I really liked the first Pirates, but not right away. Friends dragged me to see it twice at the theatre and I thought it was really flawed, but eventually when it was on DVD I realized it's a dumb, pretty, fun movie.

The second one wasn't enjoyable the first time but not so much on repeat viewings.

Now, the third one? Yeah, that sucked. There was way too much going on, and none of the plots were tied up in a satisfactory way.

I can, just as most people can, build an informed opinion based on the 1000's of films I've already seen, based on the fact that this is a Bruckheimer production and based on the general tone I get from the game...

it's cool. you'll appreciate it if you are a game addict of prince of persia.
  • AdventCiervo
As long as they don't end the movie like the first game, where the sands of time rewind everything to where the game never happened... Don't get me wrong the game was great it's just that felt like a cop out.
  • freemachine
I don't mind if the sands rewind everything...cause that way I can get my money back.
  • I like how the time rewind makes the prince look like Dark Prince from the third game. Nice windy sand design on his arm.
  • Solid
Stupid. There's like a billion better more well known games to base a movie off of and they choose this aladdin dude. Nobody plays Prince of Persia! Nobody. This is like making a movie based on friggin minesweeper. I'm really upset about this internet. And you know what happens when I get upset.
  • I don't think you quite understand how much millions of copies sold really means.
  • what is this I don't even
  • MarkoP
Wait. Are you trying to say nobody plays mindsweeper as well?
  • The Rewind Theatre itself is pretty cool.
