trickrtreatpostbigThe /Filmcast: After Dark is a recording of what happens right after The /Filmcast is over, when the kids have gone to bed and the guys feel free to speak whatever is on their minds. In other words, it’s the leftover and disorganized ramblings, mindfarts, and brain diarrhea from The /Filmcast, all in one convenient audio file. In this episode, Dave Chen, Devindra Hardawar, and Adam Quigley chat with writer/director Mike Dougherty about the long and arduous process of making, distributing, and marketing Trick ‘r Treat. They also talk about their favorite horror movies to watch on Halloween, and share a few thoughts about X3 and Superman Returns. Trick ‘r Treat is available NOW wherever movies are sold digitally and on Blu-Ray/DVD.

  • You wrote X3 in the summary, but he actually wrote X2. Normally I wouldnt comment but that movie sucked.

Did you listen to the podcast? They talk about X3.

Great "what if?" talk with Dougherty about X3. Bringing in those sci-fi/religious elements would have been epic. Pheonix as a messiah or god like figure would have been amazing. Also it sounded like it would have focused a lot more on Cyclops (who was always my favorite character in the comics) and his feelings for Jean/Pheonix.

Personally, I hated the way they just killed off Cyclops in Ratner's piece of shit just so they could cram a relationship between Wolverine and Jean down our throats. Man, what could have been, same with a Superman Returns sequel. Why won't anyone trust Singer anymore, he's one of the best director's working today. At least he cares about the material, like Dougherty said.

Haven't listened to the edited version; actually caught this one live for the first time. I recommend it to whomever hasn't.

I'm glad the X3 what-if made it into the final cut, my mind was blown and am surprised more people aren't talking about it. You certainly did break some news there, Dave!

Our beloved hosts were quite hilarious if not understandably cautious at the end of the live show...

    (paraphrased quotes)

    Dave: "Okay, Wow."
    Adam: "Whoa".
Devindra: "E-mail him tomorrow and get a signed permission slip in triplicate (that it's okay we put that bit in the podcast)!"

I love how Mike Dougherty is as awesomely geeky as everyone in the podcast. <3

Great After Dark, Mike Dougherty should definitely be brought back in the future!
  • Mike Dougherty is a great guest! I really enjoyed Trick 'r Treat, and it's always really insightful to get some "behind the scenes" stories about how they made their movies. This was definitely up there with Kyle Newman's After Dark episode re:Fanboys.
  • The X3 part was epic, very cool to hear some thoughts about what it could've been like.

They shouldn't have focused on Wolverine on all three movies. They should have given Cyclops some respect. He's the leader of the X-Men for God's sake. It's like having a JLA movie with Superman reduced like a background character and Batman getting all the glory and saving the day. I think only a reboot can fix things up for Cyclops and the X-Men franchise.
