Not surprisingly, it seems that things are going well for January Jones’s career after her great work in Mad Men. In a recent page 3, we mentioned that Jones would be joining Diane Kruger and Liam Neeson in Unknown White Male. Now it seems she has another theatrical project lined up. Jones will be starring in Hungry Rabbit Jump, alongside Nicolas Cage as his wife. The film will be helmed by Roger Donaldson (The Bank Job, Thirteen Days), with a script by Robert Tannen (Even Money).

We’ve known about the project since September, when Cage left The Green Hornet. The film concerns a man who is out for revenge after his wife becomes victim to a crime. He seeks out help from a vigilante group, and quickly gets in over his head. I’m not sure if we can rely on Cage not to give us a hilarious performance (somebody remind him this isn’t a comedy, please), but Donaldson is a solid director who will most likely find some way to keep Cage in check.

The addition of Mrs. Draper herself makes this project all the more interesting. In addition to her excellent turn in Mad Men, she was also great in The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. To those unfamiliar with her work, Jones may look like just another semi-attractive blond, but I think she brings a rare intensity to her performances that deserves praise. The fact that she’s finally getting noticed gives me faith that sometimes talent can be properly recognized.

I’m hoping these leading projects mean the end for Jones turning up in bit film parts, as well as random TV films and shows.

Discuss: Are you a fan of January Jones’ work in Mad Men, or otherwise? What sorts of other projects would you like to see her in?

I just can't over the fact that Don still goes after other women, I mean, look at her!!!

I used to think she was great but I think I was just blinded by her beauty. She doesnt have much energy on Mad Men - every line is delivered with those dead eyes, every smile seems forced. Probably the reason why she wasnt nominated for anything last Emmys.

I think she was rather on the weak side in Season 1, but she's improved a lot as an actress through the last two seasons. I think she needs to choose roles that are different than the one she plays on Mad Men, so she doesn't get stuck in the "childish trophy wife" role.

    semi-attractive? dude...

We may recognize her for her acting abilities, but I assure you that is less than half the reason why studios will allow her to be in bigger roles. She has a fan base from Mad Men, and looks good. That is selling point number one from a financial backer/ studios point of view. Luckily she can bring it. And if there is any justice to come from these award ceremonies, she will be nominated for an Emmy based on last weeks episode of Mad Men alone.

If you have read interviews with her or have followed her career, I have since American Pie 3 in which I found her incredibly charming in, know that she is very smart about choosing projects. She is really picky about the projects that she chooses and she has said that she tends to stay away from big Hollywood movies because they don't have interesting roles for Women. I have faith in her when it comes to selecting film projects.

Mad Men doesn't have the ratings to influence any Holywood casting decisions. Not even close.
  • It also helped that Janurary Jones almost bared her boobs on the cover of a men's magazine... wink, wink

She is a fantastic actress. In fact, the entire cast of Mad Men are all stellar and need to do some movies. In all likelyhood, she will be the one watchable thing about this movie, considering it's a Nick Cage picture.

And while were at it, let's see more John Hamm in movies. He deserves a lot more than shit like Day The Earth Stood Still.
  • He has one of the leads in Ben Affleck's next movie The Town which sounds pretty cool.

I eyed Mrs. Draper intently on Mad Men, not just for her beauty but for her strong performance. I'm also glad that she's being noticed for more than just a pretty face =)
