The First 8-Minutes of ABC’s V

V

ABC has released the first 8-minutes of the new series V, which premieres on Tuesday, November 3rd at 8:00pm ET/PT. For those who don’t know, V is a re-imagining of the 1980s miniseries about the world’s first encounter with an alien race.

Simultaneously appearing over every major city in the world, the Visitors (or V’s) promote a message of peace. Through their generous offer to share advanced technology, the V’s build a following that may actually hide a more malevolent agenda, one that twists a very deep component of human nature — devotion. While the world quickly becomes fascinated with the V’s and their link to wonders just beyond the reach of human understanding, FBI Counter Terrorist Agent Erica Evans (Elizabeth Mitchell) discovers a secret hidden beneath the skin of every V - a secret that may threaten the lives of everyone close to her. Yet for her teenage son, Tyler (Logan Huffman), the V’s are his ticket to something big and hopeful-a new chance for mankind to unite in common goals. To Chad Decker (Scott Wolf), a career-hungry news anchor, his exclusive interview with Anna (Morena Baccarin), the leader of the V’s, is crucial to his dominating the airwaves. Also unsure about the Visitors is Father Jack (Joel Gretsch), a priest questioning his faith in the wake of the Visitors’ arrival. Seeking answers outside the church, Father Jack discovers there are other dissidents who believe the Visitors are not who they say they are, including Ryan Nichols (Morris Chestnut), who is faced with his own life-altering decision when the V’s show up. Never has there been more at stake — it truly is the dawning of a new day. “V” also stars Lourdes Benedicto as Ryan’s fianc’e, Valerie, and Laura Vandervoort as Lisa, an alluring Visitor who sets her sights on Tyler.

Looks Pretty good but i can`t see it having the same impact as the first time around. In the UK it was massive. Also at that time the show came from nowhere and you just didn`t know what was going to happen. Now with the internet we just about know everything about tv shows before they even air.

For some reason, the first time I saw the poster for this show I taught it had to do with Lost.
  • And not with V of Vendetta?
  • starscream9289
Every time I see a V I think of that movie, but then there's that giant ABC logo in the bottom of the posters and the dark skies over the city and for some reason I taught of Lost. And then I read that Elizabeth Mitchell was in this so yeah.
  • Jesus wants you dead, old man.

Funny how in a split second the army is everywhere. I'll give it a shot.
  • Yeah I thought the same thing. Looks like an interesting idea just poorly executed.

I watched the first V on reruns. I was still to young to see it when it first came out. Sine I was only born in 87. It was pretty creepy.

I am really excited for this show. grew up with the original and loved it.
  • Ashitaka
ABC is going to make it Lost-esque

well the zoom into the eye opening is a good sign. frankly I thought it was too slowly paced. too much dialogue before the big moment. why, since Elizabeth is supposed to be THE character, couldn't they just focus on her. alarm goes off, she climbs out of bed. goes to wake up the kid and finds the bed empty. cue phone call. then earthquake. if they wanted to show other peeps they could cut in some quick shots of them during the quake. and then as they look out. but no real need to have them say anything as far as I could tell.
  • Michael
Some of that dialog was terrible. The giant video screen on the other hand was creative so I'm willing to watch the first episode.
  • freemachine
Jerry Jones must be jealous after seeing that video screen...
  • bambam
@freemachine: darn you for beating me to the punch, ace!
  • freemachine
Wait! No Michael Ironside?!?!? This some bullshit.
  • Sheesh. This looks so uninspired. Should be called "ZZZZZZ"
  • Meh.

There's some nice casting (specifically Monica Baccarin, Alan Tudyk, and Laura Vandervoort), but Heroes has a good cast and watching that is like pulling off toenails.

I don't see how they're doing anything fresh with this, other than adding an anti-Obama subtext that only Glenn Beck could love. If there isn't some kind of serious tweak to the formula in the pilot, I won't watch any further.
  • Y'all crazy. Looks great. What Flash Forward (was that the name of that show? I have already forgotten it) wanted to be. Nicely paced, intriguing characters, and it looks beautiful. I'm hooked.
  • riggs
how u get that from 8 minutes of show where theres hardly alot of dialogue is intriguing to me....
  • Albert Brodsky
Thanks for reminding me why I don't watch network tv.
ABC must not have the money or talent to pull something fantastic off.
  • Wow. This is Huge!. The first TV show was AMAZING. The atmosphere, the characters, the dialogs even the symbols. I love this, really. Anyway, like the other users says, is not like the real one, because is not the same time, we have not the same ideas not even the same vision of that year. Anyway I support this, i think is a respectfull adaptation (so far!)... Lets see if they can become amazing!
  • Goobity
    Forgettable.
  • Watched the first minute. I'll pass on the rest, thanks.
  • danno
Give it a chance. I was there, back in the day for the first invasion. Got the scars to prove it too young feller.
  • krackajap
It's a good thing you saved those extra 7 minutes so you can write a comment about how you didn't watch it.
  • Quite obviously I was taking a swipe at how I found the first minute intolerable and how the remaining seven minutes and indeed entire season wouldn't be worth my trouble. Just not my thing.
  • Mike
Getting a Flashforward vibe from this... which isn't a good thing.
  • scott
Everytime I see Elizabeth Mitchell, all I can think of is her AWESOME lesbian scenes with Angelina Jolie in Gia.
  • Dave
Poor acting, corny dialogue, and tired ideas. Great show.
  • Well, it looks interesting. I liked first two original mini series of V (later series was just awful), and this time V seams to have the same basic idea but it will not be the same.
  • jrice73
I think the only way this thing could be interesting is if they did what Kenneth Johnson wanted to do in the first one--bring in the "other" alien species that are at war with the lizards. Then you would have the humans caught between two really advanced alien races fighting it out for the planet. That would be cool. I still think NBC's Day One is the better of the two but who knows if we'll ever see that. I'll watch V but I doubt if it will catch on. Flashforward is still interesting but its starting to spin its wheels. Some shit did blow up this week which was cool but...
  • jrice73
Hey, can anyone confirm this about the new V. I was told by someone in the know that one of the reasons ABC put V on hiatus was that the suits at ABC were concerned about the words "alien" and "aliens" being used liberally in the series and that the powers that be were concerned with taking flack from groups working with illegal "aliens," i.e. illegal immigrants, who come to the US. Supposedly, the words alien and aliens were excised from the entire series and the words "visitors" are now going to used in their place exclusively. WTF? If that's true, that's beyond belief in terms of political correctness being taken too damn far! This is a science fiction series about aliens from another world for Christ's sake. Are neo-Nazi groups going to complain about the fucking lizards putting Nazis in an inappropriate light? I mean WTF?

How Pathetic this show was a bomb as in ROTTEN the first time and was cancelled before it finnished ,I was 20 at the time Thats all the creative minds at ABC could come up with ?? And after this a Ballroom dancing show with mostly old has beens or new unknowns doing dances my great parents did ! Truly ABC is Desperate for IDEAS !
