taggart_and_rosewood

When this story started unfolding, the first bit of breaking news was that Judge Reinhold and John Ashton’s cops Rosewood and Taggart would both be back and reunite with Eddie Murphy for the next Beverly Hills Cop film. Then, an apparent U-turn came when it was announced that, actually, nothing like that could be promised yet as a new writer was about to come onto the project. So… Taggart and Rosewood or no Taggart and Rosewood?

Here’s my understanding of what’s been going on. Both Taggart and Rosewood have appeared in the Brandt and Haas drafts of the script going back at least as far as last November. This might just be the underlying source of Moviehole’s story: a look at one of these scripts. They go as far as saying ” he definitely has a part to play in the upcoming Brett Ratner-directed sequel”. There’s no citation of a source near John Ashton, so the inference definitely seems to be more that the Taggart role is in play rather than the actor has been scribbling his signature on contracts.

Collider quote their own “very trusted source” as revealing ” it’s not clear who will be back on Beverly Hills Cop 4 as the studio is hiring a new writer and they are starting over”.

This is probably very good news as the scripts I have read are, to be fairly charitable, bland and uninspiring. It also means that there’s still plenty of development left to go on the picture, possibly enough that Brett Ratner will have to get up and move on. Would that be nice? I think a lot of folks would love that.

If I remember correctly, Brandt and Haas were to have Rosewood and Foley reunited in a very dull way - in a very brief telephone call just before an action scene for Foley. Surely having them reunite on screen would be considered virtually mandatory? Taggart would then come in a few pages down the line after… well, after a plot set up that I won’t spoil for you, though it might well not even be included in any finished film. It was virtually the whole point of these earlier drafts, though.

Let’s just say that those who have read some of the scripts will have been able to infer a hidden meaning or two between the lines of the Moviehole story.

The real news here would be finding out who the new writer is. Anybody have any idea? If so, please let me know.

For the record, I thought part 3 was better than 2 but neither came close to part 1. You?

I heard the script was terrible, so that's good. Don't want Brett Ratner either, but chances are he'll stay :(.

    Needs Taggart and Rosewood though!

How the hell was part 3 better then part 2? part 3 was just totally ridiculous i can't even believe that film was made.
  • BrendonConnelly
That's a very generous evaluation of part 2. As bad as part 3 might be, 2 was worse.
  • Reese
Yup, heard it was terrible as well. I won't spoil the plotline of that script since Brendon didn't (I'm sure it's easily found with a Google search) but the whole inciting incident that sends Axel Foley back to California sours any fun to be had in another sequel for fans. It's a downright insult.

yeah, the script is terrible and it`s completly the same as the first movie.
it has no action,no funny shit, just some stupid dialog.
so yeah this is great news

Part 3 better than part 2? That's just madness!

I wish it would go back to how the 1st movie was made (not talking about remake). Taggart & Rosewood would be a most def. & Keep it R. Why does everything have to be PG-13??? It seems like studios are worried about money & not the quality of an actual film now & days. I am tired of hearing, "well since the Dark Knight was PG-13...".

I agree. The Hangover was a hard R and it was the fourth highest domestic grossing movie of the year thus far. Lower profile R movies like Inglorious Basterds and District 9 came close to grossing as much as higher profiled PG-13 Terminator Salvation (Is currently the 16th highest grossing movie this year at a pedestrian $125 million domestically). In 2007, R-Rated 300 grossed $75 million more domestically than a PG-13 Live Free and Die Hard (17th highest ranking movie of 2007 with $134 million domestically). Both the Terminator and Die Hard sequels had their poorest outings of the series in adjusted dollars. Was it because they were PG-13 or that they were weak sequels or were they weak suquels in part because the studios forced the filmmakers to make subpar movies.

I think there is decent evidence that sequels of R rated series do not perform nearly as well when they generate a PG-13 sequel.

3 better than 2? is that a joke?... k good one

Is Nick Nolte going to be in this?

    part 3 was terrible. yuck.

How about Rosewood is visiting Taggart in Miami, where he has retired and regularly catches up with their old Captain. They stumble across an illegal drug smuggling operation out while fishing in the deep blue. They call in Axle to help out. And this time Rosewood would be the "Beverly Hills Cop". Just a thought.
  • I loved them all but 1 and 2 were clearly superior to 3 with that ridicilous CD-player gun and what-not.

if Judge Reinhold is not in it i will not see it

I love part 2. The opening sequence at the jewellery store is one of the reasons why I love Tony Scott. Its electric. Snappy editing, great music etc. The movie is a pretty decent sequel too. Part 3 was awful. Its so painful to watch and looks like it was made for about $50. "Murder at a playground" sounds like something Alan Partridge would cover at Radio Norwich - but he'd have a few gags in there at least! BHC3 is pure grabage in my opinion.

Brett Ratner will ruin Beverly Hills Cop they need Bruckheimer back or the newer director Antoine Fuqua and Beverly Hills Cop 3 was a tragedy the worst by far, the series goes right in order 1 2 3.
  • Chris
I don't know everyone... Axel Foley Kiss My Ass money had me near pants pissing.
  • There was nothing good about Beverly Hills Cop 3. A very forgettable film.

Beverly Hills Cop II was the best of the series hands down!

The original is a classic film and deserves the credit for introducing us to Axel Foley. But the second was better. Eddie was funnier, it had more gags and jokes, more action, and Billy was much more prominent and tough-guy-ish. The first one comes close though. I actually liked Serj in the first and third films.

Don't even get me started on how ridiculous Beverly Hills Cop III was. That film was too silly and the plot was a mess. Eddie didn't even try to play the role like he did before and it seemed like he was just going through the motions for the pay check. I was happy Billy was back but John Ashton was nowhere to be seen. The only good thing about that film was John Saxon and the return of Serj.

If Cop4 doesn't have the type of fast paced action like "BadBoys" then they should hang it up. What Americal needs right now is an action hero like the fellas of Bruckheimer films...Eddie Murphy really needs to get bloody on this film. Beverly Hills Cop 4 needs to be dark and deep and suspensfull just like Dark Knight and Die Hard..... I HOPE EDDIE MURPHY CAN PULL IT OFF
  • Tre
3 better than 2? hardly 2 had the typical Axel humor in it. 3 had Eddies new form of humor.. he is too family oriented now. i saw an interview of him saying he doesnt laugh his old way because it makes him uneasy as people laugh at him laughing.... so he has changed too much.. and that showed in part 3
  • Tre
i think that its Imparative(sp) that they bring back Taggart and Roseweed. hell.. bring back Bogelmill. they all piece together nicely and it fits
  • Tre
last post lol sorry.. im excited ..... i think Serge should have a longer part in the next film. .he is just plain funny... what about Jenny Summers? bring her back too!
  • PC Jones
I'm developing a treatment/screenplay for BH Cop IV with Nick Cannon as Axel's son(newly discovered). Cannon is a cop as well. They play off each other by doing the same crazy banter because their blood. There's more to it. Paramount can contact me anytime at storylink.com/pcjones...thanks

Man, I LOVE all Beverly Hills Cop movies, well, not really the last one...But anyways, I heard that it is going to be a PG rated movie to make it more accessible to children...That sucks!!! I really do hope that I heard wrong...Yes, Rosewood and Taggart should be in the movie because having Tagart in the part 3 movie may have made it that much better...Also, they should keep the original "Axel F." theme song from the first 2 movies...The part 3 version sucked balls. Man, I hope Eddie Murphy is reading this and understands that the REAL fans want a bad ass like never before seen Beverly Hills Cop movie...R Rated!!! Shit, even NC-17...I miss all the old Eddie Murphy characters...The daring, smart ass, risky, funny ass shit Eddie Murphy...So Eddie, man, I HOPE that you make this movie one hell of a movie...
  • Mike
Number two had Seger do the main theme song. SWEET. I'm from DET. That means something; of course, I was only 10 at the time...

Number three was worth less than the dump I took this morning.
