The Twilight Saga: New Moon Theatrical Movie Trailer

volturi

Last night’s MTV Video Music Awards saw the debut of a brand new trailer for The Twilight Saga: New Moon to the delight of Twilight fans everywhere. Hit the jump to check out the trailer, and as always, leave your thoughts in the comments below.

This new trailer gives us a little bit more storyline than previous trailers, as we learn about Edward’s plan to take off, and Jacob’s subsequent attempt to pick up Bella on the rebound. We catch glimpses of Dakota Fanning as Jane, a Volturi guard, and Michael Sheen as Aro, the head of the Volturi, an Italian vampire coven that enforces the vampire laws. Both of them look good in their respective roles, and I hope they were paid well for their time here.

We also see the absolutely-terrifying ghost-Edward, and Bella deciding to become an adrenaline junkie by jumping off cliffs or something. The trailer closes with a fight scene that is strongly reminiscent of the boss battle at the end of Blade 2 [Note: For those of you wondering about the trailer music, it's from the movie trailer for Jumper]. But most importantly throughout, we get to see lots of boys with their shirts off! Taylor Lautner! Robert Pattinson! The Wolf Pack! Trailer mission = accomplished. Here’s Summit’s synopsis:

In NEW MOON, Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) is devastated by the abrupt departure of her vampire love, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) but her spirit is rekindled by her growing friendship with the irresistible Jacob Black. Suddenly she finds herself drawn into the world of the werewolves, ancestral enemies of the vampires, and finds her loyalties tested.

I have to say that even though I didn’t enjoy Twilight very much, this trailer compares favorably to the first film’s in that stuff is actually happening. Perhaps Weitz’s direction combined with a stable of talented actors might get me to give this film a shot? Probably not, but it’s nice to think about sometimes….

I know that /Film’s audience isn’t exactly the target audience for the film, so to put things in perspective, here are videos of some fans reacting to the trailer. Arguably, they are more entertaining than the trailer itself:

  • Dannymanners
well...........it looks alittle better than the first one atleast :P It looks like an actual movie - with some producation values - rather than a straight to DVD film.
  • optimusprime24
    agree
  • GregoryV
Seriously, it does look better than the first one. Which look like some CW teen drama. If I had to watch this, I'm in it for Alice. haha.
  • presto117
and... still not gonna watch the movie. got so bored of this book i stopped 200 pages in and literally hid it away so i'd never have to look at it again. so bad.
  • Andreas
Haha this looks suprisingly hilarious! Maybe i should go see it just to make fun of it? No. By the way those fan videos has to be fake... I mean no one can act that retarded right?!
  • Sheep
It only takes one to act that way and the group gets caught up in it.

    Republicans .....wooooooaahhh Politics.
  • optimusprime24
Agree with Andreas, I might to see this just to tear it apart later. Seriously, this girl is committing suicide because some dude left her. That scene where she is falling of the bike piss me off pretty bad. It look so cheesy and bad.
  • Andreas
I forgot to say that Dakota Fanning looks as watchable as always
  • duder
I take her to see my nerdy movies, she takes me to see her nerdy movies. So, at least I'm not paying for the ticket.
  • Ryan
So, in the last movie we had a girl who needed a man so bad she was willing to completely change herself and identity to be with him...this time we have a movie where a girl is without that guy and now feels the need to commit suicide...great examples for the nation's female youth...
  • claraclayton
agreed! i read these books after the twilight movie came out because I was the only female in the world who hadn't read them and I hated them! I cannot understand the appeal of Bella & Edward's relationship, why a female author would create the main female character as such a whack job, and why MILLIONS of young girls are obsessed and idolize these stories!!!! I have to say though New Moon was my favorite of the series even if some of it made me cringe with frustration

Bella doesn't commit suicide, nor does she try. She jumps off a cliff in to the ocean. It's the adrenaline rush that makes her hear Edwards voice. Hardly committing suicide, if you ask me. I wouldn't say that this book is a terrible example for the 'nation's female youth', either; Bella goes 7 months without Edward (and without committing suicide). He was the one who tried to get himself killed by the Volturi, and Bella saved his life. I guess I'm not seeing the problem here?
Maybe consider reading the books before you bash them? And if you already did that, then you might want to consider re-reading the books and getting your facts straight this time. NO ONE COMMITTED SUICIDE!
And, maybe this girl was willing to completely change her identity to be with him because she's in love? (hence the love theme of the books).
love makes you do crazy things!

the best part of these 3 videos is the feet in the background of the 1st fan video (the two girls) around the 30 second mark. Are they connected to the girl or someone elses? If they are her feet they are freakishly small and very excited.
  • optimusprime24
Wow, those reactions videos are ridiculous.
  • joker93
Still not gonna watch this movie, but whoever put this trailer together did a pretty damn fine job
  • Ashitaka
Shirtless guy: "He left you Bella, he doesn't want you anymore," Kristen Stewart: "I have to go" = LOLZ
  • Wow...whoever put this trailer together should get a standing ovation (and I'm not a Twilight fan)
  • shora_f
    yeah.. seriously..

I'm not a fan.. but damn this looks actually good
(although to be honest, they had more budget this time and Chris Weitz is a pretty competent director)
  • True. They did have more money.
  • dr.psilo
I think I puked a little in my mouth...
  • "Just promise me you won't do anything reckless..." Oh dear Christ. I WONDER what she does next??? Target audiences are going to lap this up, aren't they. My head hurts.
  • Weyland_Yutani
The only important question here is when the score by Alexandre Desplat is released. I still can't believe he signed on for this, but apparently he saw an artistic opportunity mixed with a nice paycheck.
  • DanniH
Emotional porn, forced dialog and bad CGI........ gonna skip this one
  • ScanCase
I really hate the fact that these movies exist. They are the leading symptom of the cancer of the movie industry. Not only do these movies betray the centuries of vampire myths but their bad dialog, one dimensional characters, and forced situations do not bring any artistic value to the larger collective conscience.

Not to mention that this is a huge step backwards for women. The female protagonist in this movie is a damsel in distress beyond a princess in a Disney film. The movie continual tells women that they can't exist unless they are protected by a man who treats them like crap. This film treats woman like naive five year olds. Twilight has more in common with a Bruce Willis action film then it does with the romantic tale that this film is being praised as. You have a couple of beefed out guys fighting to save everyone or in this case a female. In which the girl just stands around and screams when things get "scary."

This film only represents the fact that people are becoming more and more shallow in their own ideals and less intelligent as the generations pass. Women are smart and imaginative and should not be told that they are no better than the character Bella in this film. Where is the Women's Movement when you actually need them.

the books are more than just a girl standing around screaming at the 'scary' stuff, while gorgeous young men fight for her survival and heart. in the last book, her vampire strength actually saves everyone. not exactly a damsel in distress, huh?
  • ScanCase
So the books are even worse then. It takes four full fledged books for her to do anything of importance. Look at the Harry Potter series Hermione is a useful part of the group within the first book and is clearly smarter then the rest of the children characters. The Dune series is filled with strong women who are, in most cases. out smarting the men. Even look at the television show Fringe, where the main character, a female, is the first one to pull out her gun and face the creature of the week.

My point still stands. Belle is one of the worst role models for women in existence today. And for this series to be loved by women is a failure on our society.

Yes, the trailer looked a little interesting, but remember that Chris Weitz also did The Golden Compass which also had an awesome trailer, but terrible adaptation to a great book. Imagine what it will be like to see him adapt a horrible book.
  • something had to fill the vacuum after all the boy bands disappeared.
  • greggorybasore
    Well said

But this isn’t the only film leading to the demise of modern American cinema. This year alone we had Michael Bay’s “crapfest” that is “Transformers 2, the unwatchable “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and “G.I. Joe” which ruined what was so great about the original series. It’s not like there haven’t been bright spots but when these film make over 200 million dollars domestically and films like “Moon” and “The brothers Bloom” lay to waste it just shows what the industry really is in for: Money. I know that this isn’t anything new but I wonder if “Moon” gota wider release would it be just as successful as “Transformers” or even a third? I hate Twilight, and I have read there out of the four books per my girlfriend’s request (Because I love her) and there so incoherent and self-absorbed that I can’t believe these films are being made. I mean I’m a Geek fanboy who loves everything from Movies to Comics but there is a big difference between a “fanboy” who is into a culture then a “fangirl” who is into a trend. These girls are fans of trends an once the fire for the awful trend extinguishes they will jump ship to the next thing they will be overly obsessed that the media will cover in hour long segments or write columns in every shallow and time wasting magazine. There needs to be a change but how or when I don’t know but I believe that one day the studios with hear our cry and take a chance on new and interesting movie ideas that we haven’t seen before instead of remaking books and shows we already have.

I just died a little inside
  • babyjaypan
i'd wanna see the werewolf vs. vampire fight, the part with the rangers in the woods, and any really badass vampire fights if there are any. and kristen stewart's titties
  • babyjaypan
and dakota fanning looks waaay creepy, which is a good thing
  • GregoryV
"But most importantly throughout, we get to see lots of boys with their shirts off! Taylor Lautner! Robert Pattinson! The Wolf Pack! Trailer mission = accomplished."

HAHAHAHAHAA!!! Nice one Chen, nice one.
  • Rockie
    Dear David Chen,

the best part of this post is the screen cap you choose for it. i laughed so hard my sides hurt.

    always

    Rockie
  • I just recently saw Twilight for the first time since it came up on my Netflix queue.

Surprisingly, I liked it much more than I thought I would so I have to say that I am somewhat excited for this movie, especially considering the plot seems much more complex than the first movie.

So yeah, I'm probably going to attend one of the theatrical showings for New Moon when it's released.

    Next up...

The reactions seem like they really could be fake.
  • WOW I love the trailer =) Awesome!!!
  • tom
So, the Rifftrax boys are making their own movies to ridicule now?
  • Mariel
I love/hate Twilight, it is a horrible, horrible book and movie, they take themselves way to seriously and in that way I love it! It is the funniest thing I have ever seen! I always tell people this is crap and go see it with a bunch of friends and try to be drunk, I'm guessing it helps. Now the first movie was bad on all standards, but this movie is starting to have some standards. The special effects are better and actually look cool (But that's probably the small screen and fast cuts), the lighting is better and those wolfs are the bomb, I mean they are so cool, I hate that in the book the author uses them, as you know the Native American race card and has no clue about their culture but the wolfs do look cool. All in all, I will be watching this movie and it will be the best comedy.
  • Megajat
Ok. I have a question. Can anyone tell me why can't girls be werewolves or vampires? And if they are then why can't I see shirtless female vamps and werewolves? With the amount of shirtless shots in the trailer if they could just give my query a shot I would pay anything to watch this movie.
  • melissa0914
haha... well, there is a female werewolf that shows up in Eclipse (the 3rd story)... so maybe you'll get lucky and David Slade will give you your wish. :-)

There are lots of female vampires, but guess none of them want to kill themselves so no reason to take their clothes off
  • frelling_cute
Ohhh Myyy Goddd. I just wet my pants.
But seriously, it does look better than the drab first movie.
  • melissa0914
It's interesting to me that non-Twlight fans think this is a good trailer... I am a fan and I did enjoy it but kept thinking... we know the story line (we being the people who go see the movie opening weekend) can't you stop trying to explain it so much with all the dialog and just show awesome shots/music (like towards the end of the trailer I suppose). I thought the whole 'hole punched through my chest' dialog (which does match the book, but as her internal thoughts) and shots of bella screaming herself awake would have non-fans turning the trailer off already. I'm glad they were able to finish it and give it a chance

Why are there so many half dressed men in this trailer? Really I mean, after RPattz leaves, they are all shirtless in almost every scene! There should be a drinking game, "Hey there's another shirtless man! Oh look there's a whole group of them!" Even RPattz gets in on it. Why? Because of the screaming tweens and teens who think that's what love is, abs. I love this movie, it is so twisted!
  • melissa0914
The werewolves go around shirtless because they regularly burst into wolves when they get too angry... and that shreds their clothes/shoes, etc... so one less item of clothing to have to worry about. Robert's character is shirtless because he's about to commit suicide... as the trailer says, the Volturi kill vampires that 'make their existence known' to humans, which is what he was about to do (the whole glittering in the sun to expose them as non-human thing).... so yes it appeals to the target audience, but there is actually a reason behind it...They don't just have men walking around without their shirts on with no explanation
  • Darrin
i had a similar reaction for when i saw the theatrical trailer for transformers 2, you should have seen my reaction when i came out after seeing the movie. that movie sucked.
  • Joanne
The thing that i don't like about her writing stlye is that it seems like a long stream of events, it's not logical(most of it). Charater leads to plot, you can produce a logical story with just events. You need charaters who would do certain things to make those events possible.

Some other good vampire novels.(Pssst...they all have writing thats 5 times better than S.M)

    1. House of Night by P.C + Kristen Cast
    2.Vampire Kisses
3.Blue Bloods By Mellisa De La Cruz
