More Toy Story 3 Details, Straight From D23

As I start this post, John Lasseter is on stage at D23, delivering a string of Toy Story 3 announcements. Thanks to the magic of Twitter, I’m able to keep tabs on the little bits and pieces from some 5,400 miles away. As I write, I’m very excited. I wonder what great news will come after the break? It depends on how far Lasseter goes in dropping news bombs. Already, though, I have some surprising casting news to report…

This was unexpected… John Lasseter has confirmed that John Morris, the voice of the young Andy in Toy Story and Toy Story 2 is back for part 3. This time round, Andy is 18 years old. John, on the other hand, is 24. I bet he’s still got a Woody and Buzz at home, though. That is a sweet piece of casting. I like it. And IMDB user jmcastro is going to be over the moon. As far as I can tell, John hasn’t actually done much since he last lent his voice to Andy.

More casting news breaking now. Also on the roster are Pixar vets Jeff Garlin - previously Captain B. McCrea of The Axiom in Wall-E, and Bonnie Hunt - previously Rosie in A Bug’s Life, Sally in Cars and Ms. Flint in Monsters Inc - as well as Whoopi Goldberg, making her Pixar debut. Who are they playing? No idea!

Lasseter also reconfirmed the casting of Timothy Dalton as Mr. Pricklepants, but no new info appears to have surfaced on that front. Doesn’t stop it being just about the most amusing thing I’ve heard in weeks.

The announcements have now moved on to Winnie the Pooh and Cars 2, and as far as I can tell, the info presented was just the same as we heard on Thursday. All good things will come to those who wait, I suppose.

Any ideas if the Toy Story 3 development will be added to Toy Story Mania at Hollywood "MGM" Studios?
  • Goldberg: Box Office Poison.
  • forts
Yup... Like in The Lion King

Ghost too. Not only was she the best thing in it, she was a good part of its word of mouth and part of the reason it was a smash.

Too true. The Color Purple and the two Sister Act movies didn't make a dime, either.
  • I just wanted to thank everyone for the replies to this thread. Epic.

I could care less about Cars 2. Why don't they do the Incredibles 2 first?
  • TrevDawg
I personally believe that The Incredibles should stand alone. It was a great film, why potentially ruin it with a sequel. The reason they aren't doing a sequel is because Brad Bird is working really hard on a new film, 1906, which he has wanted to make for a while. And Pixar won't make a movie unless it has a really good story line. Until Brad Bird has enough time on his hands, he won't be thinking about the Incredibles sequel. Also, Cars 2 was very marketable. It had plenty of toys and stuff that a bunch of kids wanted and all that stuff. The Incredibles wasn't as marketable.

thats what everyones said about making a toy story sequel, then BAM! classic sequel. pixar can do so much with the incredibles, and lets be real here, cars was probably the weakest pixar movie.

Personally I think the weakest Pixar films are:

    1. A Bug's Life
    2. The Incredibles
    3. Cars

Altho, Cars is leaps and bounds better than The Incredibles.

That is true, nobody wanted a second Toy Story. I think that was more because of the fact that it was supposed to be a Direct-to-video at first but the story was so strong they couldn't pass it up. But that movie did turn out as good, if not better than, the first one. I guess an Incredibles sequel wouldn't automatically ruin the first. As long as they get the story right (which is a given if they put this in production) I would be all for an Incredibles sequel. Don't ruin it with a crappy sequel. It'd have to be original. I'm sure they'll make one eventually, and knowing Pixar it will be great (they never put out bad movies). But I don't mind them being patient. Pixar is all about the story.

I do agree that Cars is one of the weakest Pixar movies, but I did enjoy it thoroughly and my little brother and all of his friends seemed to love it. None of them are "weak" they all have really good stories with really good life lessons. But I will agree that Cars doesn't compare to Toy Story of Finding Nemo or Up (which is the best in my opinion)

Let us not forget that there is a whole world of unexplored supers we were introduced to that we could see films about. Supers in their prime, Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl in their prime. An origin story! With the help of some marvel writers that could be amazing!!
  • The marketability of Cars far outweighs The Incredibles. The amount of Cars-related toys and merchandise they sell is astonishing. I'm not surprised they're gunning for a sequel.

  • Two very odd choices for sequelitis. Cars is the least critically aclaimed movie out of the bunch, and Toy Story was so nicely wrapped up there was no need for a sequel.

Meanwhile the Incredibles - critically acclaimed, one of the better superhero films of all time - gets a videogame sequel. Very odd.

Oh man, the footage they screened for last night of TS3 looked just as beautiful, emotional and funny as the first. The scene was Andy needing to make a desicion of which toys to take to college and which to donate to charity. He's reluctant about both and decides to take woody to college. However, he puts the rest in a black trash bag and appears to be going to the attick to hide the other toys from being taken. However, a string of events take place and the balck trash bag is mistaken for trash and I taken out to the garbage jut as the truck is getting ready to pick it up. Woody sees this an jumps out the window to assists his friends as the remainig toys try to escape by punching through the bag. Rex is fodder in the scene as always, very funny. Woody makes it to the bag just as it's picked up and thrown in the truck he watches as the bag is compacted and the screen went black... Amazing!!
