Could Greg Grunberg Return To Lost?

Greg Grunberg

Greg Grunberg, who is probably best known for his role as Matt Parkman on Heroes, is the childhood best friend of JJ Abrams, and has been featured in almost every project he’s ever directed — be it a cameo or something larger. Grunberg’s cameo in the pilot episode of Lost is pretty unforgettable. I won’t give it away for those who still haven’t picked up the DVDs, but its safe to say that his character hasn’t appeared on the show for a while now. Could Grunberg return in the sixth and final season? Anything is possible. Details and possible spoilerish speculation after the jump.

In a recent interview with TV Guide Magazine, Grunberg reveals that he received a call asking if he would be interested in returning at some point in the final season. “That’s literally where my call ended,” Grunberg says, before admitting that “If NBC will allow it, I will go back.”

How could Oceanic flight 815 Pilot Seth Norris return? Well there are always flashbacks. However, Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse made a point of saying at Comic-Con that the flash back, flash forward, and time travel seasons are over, and that the sixth and final season will have a whole new deal.

I, like many others, have previously speculated that the sixth season will be the alternative reality season. If the bomb went off and prevented Oceanic 815 from crashing on the island, this would create an alternative timeline/universe. And in that universe Seth Norris’ future is not clear. And at the very least he could be used in a scene recreating the original Oceanic 815 flight, minus that pesky plane crash.

I think that simply mentioning the possibility of his coming back may be a pretty big spoiler. I may be in the minority, but it seems like a pretty big deal and what you're speculating is probably implied by him returning. Not to say that it isn't really cool if it happens, because it absolutely is awesome.
  • MonsterKilledThePilot
its not really a spoiler mentioning who's coming back. We all know that the alternative reality scenerio is a possibility and there were a ton of hints at comic-con that suggested they would head in this direction - not to mention they revealed the season six poster which featured all 26 castmembers.
  • Dr_Handsome
Not to come off as fist-waving-fanboy but to me casting rumors, unless officially revealed ala comic-con, are considered spoilers.

Maybe you could at least leave any names out of your headlines?

Edit: Damon Carlton and a Polar Bear, the Lost alternate-reality-game thingy, revealed this so in the end it's been "officially" announced so no real complaints. But yeah, it never really mentions that here and I still stand by my argument: anything not revealed in an official manner is more or less a spoiler.
  • How could you even report this story without featuring greg in the headline or photo? It would not be possible. Plus this was something reported in TV Guide Magazine, its not some hush hush rumor.
  • Dr_Handsome
Again, I'm not trying to be the angry internet guy and I'm sure this is the sort of thing that has to do with internet traffic or search terms but couldn't you at least post "Former Lost Cast Member to Return?"

And yeah, I see now that this is no small casting rumor (which is weird in itself but in no way your fault) so no real complaints in the end.
  • entertainmenttod
I love Lost and have no problem with they way you reported it. That would be cool if he comes back.

In that case, prepare to be spoiled for season 6 as it gets closer. I think these sort of stories about which actors are returning are going to be impossible to avoid

Sometimes I feel like the only person in the world who could care less about "Lost".

Its probably the only thing that I've ever been turned off of, simply because of the obnoxious fanbase that has tried to shove it down my throat like an overzealous missionary.
  • krycek7o2
Then why are you here? Did anyone force you to here to comment, no!

Don't worry though, we don't want you here. Go watch the Vampire Diaries instead.
  • sma
I'm here because I enjoy reading the blog? If you want a world where people aren't allowed to express a different opinion, you might want to travel back in time to the Third Reich.
  • Serving that shit up like a Chili's hot plate! Ssssssssssss! On fire, son!
  • "I'm here because I enjoy reading the blog?"

    I don't know... are you?

    I'm Ron Burgundy?
  • jasonb26
    @sma

i thank you for explicitly proving the fact that not just 'Lost haters', but the negative haters in general are always the obnoxious lot. you came in swinging, and the best part was that you were calling the shows fans unruly. ha! classic blog hypocrisy.

but please don't take my word for it, just glance above to how you handled the conversation. i don't expect everyone to like the show, but going out of your way to be rude about your dislike & then alluding to someone as being nazi-esque?!?! very suave man.
  • lobsterfancy
Not to worry, in September when you start first grade you'll learn all about capitalization.
  • CallMeSnake
In which grade do you learn proper sentence structure, Lobsterfancy?
  • CheshireAna
You might want to keep in mind that fans like yourself also do a good job of turning people off a series.
  • eliwein
Just interested, although none of my business; did you stop watching the show just because of the fans, or the show itself was unappealing?
  • stevenflimshaver
so you like it but not like like it, since you could care less or you couldn't care less about it?
  • Give the show a chance. You honestly don't know what you're missing! The acting is great and the story is quite literally one-of-a-kind. You have time to catch-up and be ready for the premier in January/February. Your argument of why you haven't/won't watch it (the rabid fan-base) just doesn't compute to me; if you gave the show a chance I'm pretty sure you'd be a fan. It only takes the series premier! If anything, you've lost (pun?!) less than an hour of your life and you can have a more solid reason for not watching/liking the show.
  • frankie23
It's people like you who he's complaining about.
  • Why is that? It's the same argument I would give anyone who says they don't watch something based just on the fans.
  • I think this pretty much makes makes the theory that Jack's plan worked a definite. I can't think of any other reason why they would want him back.
  • kellyjo562
    Agreed
  • jasonb26
ahh, but it was farraday's plan, jack was just the executor.
  • The problem with the alternate reality is this:
If the bomb goes off and solves everything then they land in LA. Which means they don't set off the bomb, which means they crash on the island, but then they set off the bomb so they land in la, whichmeanstheydontsetoffthebombwhichmeanstheycrashontheislandbutthentheysetoffthebombsotheylandinla....
And we have a pair of ducks(or maybe it's paradox?)
But I have faith in the Lost crew that they know what they're doing. Also I don't really feel its a spoiler to mention who he plays or that he might be coming back.
  • Thanks for making my head asplode.
  • Taft207
    Alternate universe = fringe
  • doesnt this site have spoiler tags? I dont remember his role in the pilot, unless he was the one that got sucked into the plane engine, i remember that
  • starscream9289
He's the pilot that got eaten by the smoke monster while Jack, Kate, and Charlie were trying to retrieve the plane's transceiver.
  • oh, well that makes more sense that he would have a role to play
  • I wouldn't consider it a spoiler. His role was not very important, and will likely not be important if he was to return for the final season. It would just be a fun call back to the pilot episode.
  • cesaria
So he was the pilot in the pilot episode?! His role just may be more important than we think!
  • quintushalls
I always thought he was better suited for the Pilot character than Frank Lapidus.
  • Ben C
They are all going to land in LA safely I think but with a twist thats why the first episode is called LA X
  • It wont' happen. It'd be awesome if it did, but it won't.

If NBC wouldn't let Masi Oka and Sarah Lancaster have a 2 second cameo in the Scrubs finale...they definitely won't let Grunberg reprise an even more important cameo in Lost's final season.

More so since LOST is a direct competitor to Heroes' geek demographic...
  • filmbuffrich
But they don't air opposite each other.
  • Neither did Scrubs and Heroes. The former aired Wednesdays, the latter Mondays.
  • If this were any other show, yeah, I'd say it wouldn't happen for sure. But this is THE FINAL SEASON of LOST. I figure that if all the stops aren't going to be pulled out for this, then nothing else is worth the effort.

Also, like someone else mentioned above, the poster revealed at Comic Con suggests that we're going to see lots (if not all) of the past cast return, so it's definitely feasible.
  • CheshireAna
Final season of Lost or not, if NBC doesn't want to let it's stars go to a show for a main competitor, even for so much as a cameo, it won't happen.
  • stevenflimshaver
wasn't nbc kind of sour over scrubs going to another channel even after they passed on it at that point? I assume they did it to spite scrubs.
  • jasonb26
one thing that has me hesitant about this 'alt reality' idea, is that DL/CC have specifically stood by their belief on the stakes being real & finite. so if everyone can come back & be a-ok, then how are those high stakes? how is there any danger at all if we get a 'deja-vu' ending where our cast bump into each other and get that "say, don't i know you from somewhere" moment, or look in their eye?

i'm with lost til the end, but they have got a fuck load of ground to cover in only 17 (right?) episodes.
  • He will play Seth Norris's twin brother, Chuck, who will come to the island to personally rassle the smoke monster and kill Evil Locke.
  • Best comment in this thread.
  • sickofthisshit
people who think this is a spoiler are retarded. the show could do ANYTHING next season.
  • ib9wink
Wow, some people literally can not wait to scream "spoiler" at any given opportunity these days.

    Thanks for the news, Peter
  • edc
    greg is doing the shocker!
2 in the pink, 1 in the stink!
