inception casting

According to Warner Bros’ exhibitor website, the first teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Inception will play in front of some screenings of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, beginning on August 21st. Nolan has a history of releasing very short teaser trailers, that don’t reveal much. Some might remember the teaser trailer for The Dark Knight, which was released in July two years ago, which featured not much more than the Batman logo flying at the camera with voiceover. I expect that the teaser trailer for Inception won’t offer much more than a shot or two, and then a logo.

August 21st is the same day that the trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar will be released online, in conjunction with 20th Century Fox’s nationwide marketing promotion — Avatar Day.

Not much has been revealed publicly about the story, other than that the film will be a contemporary science fiction action movie “set within the architecture of the mind.” Leonardo DiCaprio plays the lead, a CEO-type, Marion Cotillard (La Vie en rose, Public Enemies) is his wife, Ellen Page (Juno) is a young college grad student and DiCaprio’s sidekick, Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays an associate working for DiCaprio. Ken Watanabe will play the film’s villain, a man who is blackmailing Leonardo DiCaprio’s character. Tom Hardy (Bronson) is a member of DiCaprio’s team. Cillian Murphy (Batman Begins, Sunshine) and Michael Caine are also signed on, but no details are known about their characters.

Inception is scheduled to hit theaters on July 16th 2010.

  • This cast is amazing, even if the teaser shows nothing i'll still be there.

    Can't fucking wait

Pretty excited to see this. Speaking of Avatar Day: have they even released a list of the participating theaters? It's only a week away and I haven't seen anything about it since that Comic-Con announcement.

Was it confirmed that the Avatar trailer is being released online that day, or is this the general assumption? The only official word I'd heard was regarding the 15 mins that will be playing in certain theatres.
  • Click the linked text, a press release said it

Nice. At least we'll have SOMETHING to watch if there's no IMAX screening close by....

    OMG, I want it now!

    Man what a cast!

But with all the respect i have for Nolan, i'm more excited about the Avatar trailer.
  • I can't wait for this movie!

The hoped-for Avatar trailer impact might get a bit diluted with the release of the Inception trailer and the Inglorious Bastards movie on the same day, one week after District 9 comes out.

Inception has been in production for a couple of months already.

Peter (writer of this entry) copy-pasted that specific part of information from earlier posts on this website on Nolan's new movie, meaning that Inception started production during this year's summer, not that it will start production in the summer of 2010. Hope this helps.

Awesome and atleast it can get some early buzz. It's going to be pretty hard selling this movie as another big summer blockbuster when it's actually alot more unique and intellegent, but if the footage turns out looking amazing then it should have no problem becoming a huge hit. I also wouldn't be suprised if they started doing another viral campaign eventhough it might not be nearly as effective as the one for TDK.

    Not... Really.
  • Thanks for noticing, fixing this now.

I was already excited for Inglourious Bastetds, this just makes me excited.

  • thankyoufor
I'm so excited for the 21st
hopefully Inglorious, avatar 15min, and inception trailer will make this summer not so bad for movies
  • freemachine
    It's all about Avatar, baby!
  • algoresnuts
The Batman Begins teaser had one minute of footage. And that came out a year before the release. Do the math. With Dark Knight, they put just the bat symbol because the bat symbol is the most recognizable symbol in the world. With Inception it is a different story.

Oh god. The 22nd is now my most anticipated day. Basterds, Avatar trailer, and now this? And days after District 9 shows (not sure when it shows here(Philippines) though but I guess it's in that week since the marketing is just starting).
  • Anything that helps people pop along to see Basterds is fine with me. That's what I'm excited about most!
