McG has been hyping the upcoming TV series Human Target on the TCA press tour and by the by discussing his plans for another Terminator and also his 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea adaptation. Previously, McG had suggested he had Will Smith in mind for the role of Captain Nemo. Of course, Nemo is an Indian in the books, and Smith is not so it was clear that McG was willing to take some liberties. He still is, because according to an interview with IGN, his new top choice is none other than Sam Worthington.

Worthington played Marcus in McG’s under-appreciated yet definitely underwhelming Terminator Salvation, and will soon be seen in Avatar and Louis Leterrier’s Clash of the Titans. McG’s definitely a fan:

Look out for Clash of the Titans because Clash is going to be really good – I’ve seen some of that. Now he’s doing The Tourist with Charlize [Theron]. He’s all over the place, and I might cast him as Nemo if it’s in the cards. We’ll see.

So, it seems perhaps that negotiations are all that stand between this rumor and an official announcement - scheduling and pay and all that jazz. IGN also asked McG about the ongoing development of Terminator 5. Here’s some of what he told them:

The idea is to play with one of the tried and true rules of the franchise – time travel – and introduce it in this picture. I don’t want to share too much, but let’s just say it’s very, very likely that John Connor is going to end up running through rooms like this where he knows something that none of us know. And we’ll have a much more clearly defined antagonist in the new picture. It will be more of a chase movie with a new Terminator that is on your ass.

Doesn’t sound too bad. According to what we’ve heard already, the destination for John Connor’s time travel will be London circa 2011. And back then, in June, McG was also threatening a large scale invasion from the future:

[Skynet] figured out time travel to the degree where they can send more than one naked entity. So you’re going to have hunter killers and transports and harvesters and everything arriving in our time and Connor fighting back with conventional military warfare, which I think is going to be f**king awesome.

Doesn’t seem to mesh entirely with the “clearly defined antagonist”, but that’s not necessarily the case. I remain highly optimistic for the next McG Terminator film - should it ever happen. I’m just sorry that Christian Bale and his daft voice will be involved, and that Jonathan Nolan will probably be dragged along for the ride too.

    This guy is everywhere...
  • enzomoran
Um...Anil Kappor should be Nemo. Yeah...or some other Indian guy.
  • existenz
Or Ben Kingsley. He's played Indian before, as we all know.
  • oh WONDERFUL!!! more white washing!!!!
  • tenno
I hope Worthington really shows and proves in Avatar. I have nothing against him but feel like he's really being pushed on us as an "IT" guy with not much to show yet. Hooking up with McG for multiples isn't doing much to convince me of his judgment.
  • Frederik
IT guy, what the fuck? He's just being cast in alot of movies, no one but the tabloids are hyping him up to be anything he isn't.
  • tenno
    Thats my point
  • LiquidSpark
How in the hell can you "remain highly optimistic" for the next movie when Salvation was such a fucking disaster? It was worse than Transformers 2 IMO. McG is a hack and I think I might drop dead from shock if he ever put out a decent movie.
  • tenno
I was really ready to give him the benefit of the doubt with Salvation and he made me feel stupid for it. That was his last best chance.
  • Hi_there
HE made you feel stupid???? He was the ONLY good (bearable) part of the entire film. He was a cool character and I was downright psst off that he was (SPOILER- sacrificed for Christian Bale).

Somebody else needs to take the Terminator reigns and get that shit back under control. Sure, Rise was bad but at least there was potential for the sequel. What do we have to look forward to in 5??? Gruff voices and a futuristic world where everybody's been drinking the stupid juice a little too much lately?
  • rookje
    Whatever, it wasn't that bad.
  • I really don't know why anyone would have a Captain Nemo that isn't Naveen Andrews, who plays Sayid on LOST.
  • Hi_there
    ^Best. Idea. Ever.
  • blackthunder
    Agreed.
  • Hah
How is the director saying he might some day cast an actor, one step away from negotiations?
  • BrendonConnelly
"I might cast him as Nemo if it’s in the cards" is why - get into the headspace that makes that sentence come forth.
  • mbellerbrock
I enjoyed T4 quite thoroughly, but I remain slightly optimistic about T5, he has to be careful with time travel, it's obviously nothing new to the series but I wouldn't call it "tried and true." Time travel is what always creates the inconsistencies in the movies (pretty much all time travel movies, except for 12 Monkeys).
  • Guest
McG is a idiot how can you cast an white to play indian this fool needs to be stop ASAP

Nemo should be played by an indian actor i.e. Naveen Andrews or Jimi Mistry. McG is full of it first he wanted Christain Bale to be in his movie to make him look good, then he wanted Will Smith to play Nemo now since Sam Worthington has blown up in Hollywood he wants Sam Worthington to be Nemo.

heres something McG needs to do is STFU and cast a Indian or any other Asian actor for the role.
  • Guest
    i ment "white actor"
  • scotty
yeah cast "any other Asian actor" good idea.

Asia is a really big place with a lot of different "looking" people. Some who look as much Indian as someone from Texas.
  • Guest
when i mean Asian i mean Indian or Pakistani actor who maybe from UK or America

and i know Asian is a big place you dont have to tell me that

    "under-appreciated"

Are you kidding? I've seen around thirty 2009 releases so far this year, and TERMINATOR: SALVATION is second-to-last on my list in terms of quality. The horrible casting, direction, and structure involved in that film make this upcoming effort a sure disaster. Especially with the "liberties" he's taking (another fucking white guy? how boring).
  • Frederik
It wasn't amazing, but it had some very good shots (especially the helicopter scene was gorgeous). The script suffered, McG did a fine job directing.
  • Hi_there
insert /facepalm or add the word sarcasm in parenthesis or what you says makes no sense. Defending T4... lol.

  • Actually, Captain Nemo's race is not specified in 20,000 Leagues, but he is described as pale. He was retroactively made Indian in the sequel book.
  • Guest
Captain Nemo is indian end of story

not every freaking charaters are white cause he is described as pale means his white lol

white actors playing asians i.e. the last airbender and persian i.e. prince of perisa and now indian this is a joke
  • Rob0729
Yeah, his past and lineage was not revealed until "The Mysterious Island". Even so, Jules Verne intended him to be Indian and if this movie is successful they will most likely film the sequel book.

His character is generally recognized as Indian and McG should really follow suit.
  • Rob0729
After how poorly Terminator: Salvation was received and how it had absolutely no legs at the box office, I will be surprised if they let McG direct the next one. It did a dismal $124 million domestically (15th ranked movie this year) although it did far better internationally. Yes, it has done over $340 million worldwide, but it should have done close to that in the U.S. alone. Paul Blart: Mall Cop did better domestically than T4.

Personally, I am not jazzed that he is taking it in the direction he is planning to take it. The one promise I was hoping for with a post-judgement day Terminator would be watching John Connor's torment as he trains his father to prepare himself to die so he could be born. Done in the right director's hands, that would make a far better movie than a mindless Transformers rip off action popcorn movie.

Too bad James Cameron would never come back and film it right. T3 and T4 have bastardized his vision. What made T1 and T2 classics is because the story and the characters, not just the special effects.
  • andru
Let terminator go, please. T4 was enough.
  • jason
Salvation wasnt great but compared to this summer's flicks its actually decent. I hope the G can redeem himself and make a terminator that actually kicks ass.
  • ff
I agree -terminator salvation was horrible. Anyone who says otherwise here is probably MCG himself pretending to be someone else-HA!
  • existenz
God I hope McG doesn't ever touch the Terminator franchise again. Terminator robots fighting in our time? Ridiculous. Hell, they could have just all those huge robots to 1984 and definitely killed Sarah Connor. And how do you wrap a harvester in flesh, so that it can be transported?

McG should take his horrible ideas and start his own sci-fi franchise. I'm tired of him selling his slop under the Terminator name.
  • izzi
    lol.
  • Oboq
Who keeps giving this man money!!!

If there is an actual T5 then McG has some serious voodoo power, other directors never work again after such stinkers.
  • The more installments McG (God I feel ridiculous just typing that for someones name...) anyway - the more installments he creates, the further from the original material it will get. And not in a good way.
  • bob124
why do they keep giving this hack huge budgets to make movies with incredible promise?

terminator? nemo? PLEASE HIRE SOMEBODY COMPETENT
  • Rockie
this news is like swill sold by bill murray
  • hakujin
please... for the love of god, no more terminator. last one was absolute horses--t.

By my estimation, t3 has more replay value... no, I'm not joking.
  • Jesus McG that idea is fucking stupid. Let it go. We really need some one else for that job. The only good thing about Salvation was that it was set in the future. It was a nice setting and he didn't use it's potential. No more Terminators as allies and stuff. Just John Connor and his Crew trying to survive and/or fight back. And make them likeable this time.

Oh and please never ever use Danny Elfman for the score again. He fucked up just as much as McG or the Writers.
  • Amalgham
"Doesn’t sound too bad." Are you fraking kidding me?!? After the fiasco that was the last Terminator movie how the hell can you have any faith in anyone involved in this franchise to not bring you another suckfest? That's it man. You and me are done professionally Brendon.
  • Mike A
Some of you really do moan alot, i for one enjoyed salvation alot, i'm looking forward to the 5th, just because it's a different director you all seem to think its the worlds end.

i'll point this out... it has done well enough for there to be a possible 5th film, which shows something here, just cause you guys don't like a film does not mean it should do poorly it just means most of you are just narrow minded individuals, it seems there's quite a few people that are to obsessed with the originals to even consider that a squeal/prequel could do well. if you truly do not like salvation here's a helpful little tip... stop whining and don't bother with watching the 5th film. it's just a film at the end of the day and its pathetic.

as for who Nemo will be played by, does it really matter that much, when a film is based on a book, there will always be some form of reworking, it is inevitable, nothing is going to be 100% true to the novel/story i mean come on.... next there will be complaints over something stupid like "in the novel so and so was right handed, but in the film he is left handed" this is not going to be the be all end all of life as we know it!

I found the storyline interesting and plausible, the action was impressive and enjoyable as for the other films, i was not overly keen on T3 but there you have it some films you like others you don't, it's how life goes, it does not need to be shot to pieces to the extent some of you are going to
  • Matt
I want to cry. McG f*ing sucks, and to think he's going to be allowed to make another Terminator movie... Terminator 4 was horrible!!!! It was as if he didn't watch the first 3 movies when he set out to make his wretched creation. As much as I love the Terminator franchise, I won't go see another McG movie, Terminator or otherwise.
  • Barters
OMG!?! I can't believe all the negative comments on here about T4. Honestly do any of you (apart from Mike A) have thoughts of your own? I only recently watched this movie due to my digust of T3, and to tell you the truth I really enjoyed it. I was thoroughly entertained for the time the movie was on which is all one can ask for really.

As far as what I've read above regarding time travel in T5...I'm not too impressed. Not only is adding further time travel a bad idea, but a new terminator? T3 was bad due to the totally unbelievable new terminator. If one can't make a good movie out of what is currently available in this storyline they simply aren't trying. However.....I can understand that a new terminator means new toys meaning more $$$..
  • KaseyKasey
I for one, thoroughly enjoyed T4.
T3 sucked bigstyle, but Salvation was like a breath of fresh air compared to T3.
What is it with people? The characters were good, effects good, storyline good - some people just can't hack change, and that's just what we got with T4.
Roll on T5 - and I don't care who makes it as long as it entertains me as much as Salvation did...
