New York, I Love You Movie Trailer

New York, I Love You

Vivendi Entertainment has released a new movie trailer for the anthology film project New York, I Love You. The movie is the next film from the producers of Paris, je t’aime, and features another anthology of short films, this time focusing on the stories of love in New York’s five boroughs. I LOVE California, but I’ve always wanted to live in Manhattan (maybe someday). Films like this certainly don’t help my obsessions with “Gotham” and short films.

The film includes short films directed by Jian Wen, Mira Nair, Brett Ratner, Allen Hughes, Shekhar Khapur, Natalie Portman, Fatih Akin, Joshua Marston and Randy Balsmyer. The film’s ensemble cast includes: Bradley Cooper, Andy Garcia, Hayden Christensen, Rachel Bilson, Natalie Portman, Irrfan Khan, Emilie Ohana, Orlando Bloom, Christina Ricci, Maggie Q, Ethan Hawke, James Caan, Blake Lively, Drea de Matteo, John Hurt, Shia LaBeouf, Burt Young, Chris Cooper, Eli Wallach and Cloris Leachman.

The film screened as a work in progress at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival, and was originally expected to hit theaters in mid-February 2009. We posted a teaser trailer last August. Scarlett Johansson’s directorial effort starring Kevin Bacon didn’t make the final cut, but will be included on the DVD alongside Andrei Zvyagintsev’s segment starring Carla Gugino and Goran Visnjic, which was also edited out of the theatrical version.

Future installments of the “Cities of Love” series are being planned for Shanghai, Rio de Jainero, Berlin and Jerusalem. Paris, je t’aime was a very uneven film, but contained a few gems including a short directed by Tom Tykwer and starring Natalie Portman and a segment by the Coen Brothers starring Steve Buscemi.

Watch the trailer in High Definition on Apple. New York, I Love You is scheduled to hit theaters on October 16th 2009.

Looks like a rental for me not to say that its bad its just I don't watch these type of movies in theaters. Its better watching them at home relaxed sitting in my couch. Big cast ensemble thats for sure.

I was just in New York from Sunday to Wednesday and I absolutely loved it. The city is amazing I really hope to live there someday (when I have enough money). Decent trailer, i'd rent it.

I was initially (and still am) disappointed that a chance to use NY actors in their element weren't used. As a life-long manhattan-er one of the cool little perks of living here is catching iconic NY actors melding into the crowd with the rest of us. It's just that I don't think the sum of the actors in the film equals NY, and that's a shame because it'd be fascinating to see that genuine familiarity and love/hate for the city come through the characters and performances. Same for the directors, I guess, but I always think the best way to see this place is through a newcomer's eyes so I could go either way here...

I agree. I bet this movie would have a much better/more realistic feel with no-name, genuine NY actors. From the trailer at least this movie looks too Hollywood-ized.
  • Get ready for more pretentious, heavy handed filmmaking kiddies! My two least favorite things combined at the end of this trailer: Anton Yelchin and obvious exposition.
  • movieguzzler
I think Anton Yelchin is a fantastic actor. He was probably the only good thing about Terminator Salvation, besides Sam Worthington.
  • What is it with people and Sam Worthington? This guy had zero charisma in Terminator. He had nothing to do.
  • thrillhouse
    Agreed. Generic Tough Guy 2.0
  • Frederik
    Go watch Somersault.
  • I will do that.
  • kowzilla
The song in the trailer is 1901 by Phoenix.
    Phoenix is from Paris.
This film follows Paris, je t'aime.
    I smiled

Well, i do enjoy anthology movies, and it is set in my favorite place on earth, so why not.
  • LukeAP
I loved Paris, je t'aime... I hope this turns out to be comparable.
  • The caliber of the filmmakers involved in this one doesn't seem like it meets the caliber of those involved with "Paris, Je t'aime"
  • It truly doesn't. I was thinking there would be some pretty big directors, and when I saw the list, I thought: "Aww, not Brett Rattner!"

I hope this one doesn't have anything like that Vampire one in Paris Je taime.
  • Oh that one was cool! And totally unexpected.
  • tenno
New York deserves a great anthology film, this is not that project. Looks like and "indie" movie for the CW.
  • paulhaine
Brett Ratner? Really? Did a real director drop out at the last minute?
  • Gregory V
That's a huge ass cast. But seriously, why is Shu Qi in this film?
  • Why is half the cast asian?

Usually when I think of New York, I think...

    Well, not asian.
  • Rick Gershman
Moderately intriguing. Probably have the usual unevenness of most films prepared by this many cooks. But I'll generally watch Jimmy Caan in anything and Maggie Q is so hot she makes my tongue itch.
  • Rick Gershman
By the way, this is entirely off-topic, but I need somewhere to comment on it: probably the most enjoyable thing about visiting SlashFilm right now is seeing those ads for "The Chaos Experiment" with Val Kilmer's big, bloated, cracked-out looking face on it. Who knew there was such a thing as a step down from being the voice of KITT on that fuckturd Knight Rider remake?
  • Octoberist
i'm loved Paris, je t’aime but i agree....the list of directors are good but they are overshadowed by the ones who worked on Paris, jet'aime.

And Brett Ratner kinda taints it. He may have directed a good segment but still, he has baggage with me that I still question his ability as a 'filmmaker'.
  • snowballa
god, this movie looks so lame. did not see one person of african american descent or even hispanic. is this new york city to people because that's not the city i was born and grew up in.
  • Morgan
Exactly. I could feel that something was off watching this but it didn't register until I read your comment... it is really embarrassing that, given the ethnic makeup of the city, that everybody here is white.
  • Simone
    There's one guy at 0:48!

    Just one.
  • Dr_Handsome
What works so well in Paris Je T'aime is the brevity of each segment. Because of this there's almost no time to actually get bored and since you can tell what each filmmaker was going for (whether they do that sucessfully or not) it becomes a fun way of seeing several different styles play out in a short span of time.

As far as what Snowballa said, I completely agree, as far as this trailer goes they seem to ignore the spread of culture that makes New York such an interesting place.
  • kinda upset from the trailer. paris i love you had a lot of variety with the shorts. this looks like it's consistent visually and never really changes.
  • No vampires either, from the looks of it
  • naw that's in brooklyn.
  • JAMES CAAN, I LOVE YOU
  • BrendonConnelly
    Joshua Marston = I'm there.
  • justinGentry
    booooriiiiing

Something I did notice though, Ethan Hawke sounds EXACTLY like Tom Cruise in this movie.
  • alcar1481
Wow! I can't believe Woody Allen isn't one of the directors.
  • Ok, it looks good I want to see more...
  • Dallan
Excited to see this...no doubt that I'm gonna spend the $31 to see this in theater after popcorn, drink and drive to downtown Vancouver are all taken into consideration.
