robin hood future

Ridley Scott isn’t the only man in Hollywood making a Robin Hood movie. Warner Bros is also developing a film based on the classic tale, but with a sci-fi twist. Danish commercial director Nicolai Fuglsig pitched the project, and has signed on to direct. Newcomer Jason Dean Hall, who wrote the Ashton Kutcher Sundance comedy Spread and is working on a big screen adaptation of the video game Blacklight for Fox, has been hired to write the screenplay. Charles Roven (The Dark Knight) and Gianni Nunnari (300, The Departed) are producing the adaptation.

According to RiskyBiz, the story will “be set in a dystopian London and center on a band of thieves whose activities restore hope to the city’s embattled population.” The producers describe it as “a futuristic action adventure” that will be “both inspired by and pay homage to the legend of Robin Hood.” The concept sounds like it has a lot of potential (but then again, they really didn’t tell us a heck of a lot). Fuglsig has directed a couple of commercials I’ve admired over the past few years, including one of my favorite commercials of all time. Check out some of his selected work in our commercial director spotlight.

With your picture up there I first thought this new movie would somehow involve the BBC's Robin Hood, but I see it's only a pic. I think the concept is interesting and am curious to how it'll develop.
  • When I read the title of this post the first thing that popped into my head was Green Arrow. I mean you have the producers Dark Knight/300 making a futuristic Robin Hood movie...it could very well be The Green Arrow.

Director is awesome, writers are awesome, despite being based on the lamest hero of all time, it should be good. btw, when it comes to Robin Hood, Mel Brooks > Ridley Scott

Not like Ridley Scott's Robin Hood is enough of that boring character, we need MORE.

Seriously, the number of adaptations for this character is mind-boggling, and the number that are unwatchable is about equal. (The Disney one being the lone exception, unless your a fan of the classic version)

Taking classic tales and making them futuristic can be kind of neat, but it always brings up memories of the sci-fi Beowulf *shiver*

This makes me realize that Hollywood should not "remake" movies but maybe reboot them like they did with Star Trek. It not only stares true to the original but also reinvents it. So making Robin Hood futuristic is intriguing.

I never saw Beowulf, but I am reserved about it anyhow. So I take it, it wasn't all that wonderful?

heres something this is a bad idea WB should just do Green Arrow movie. if they do this Robin Hood movie set in the future most likely this Robin Hood will have a Hi-Tek Bow and Arrows. if this movie happens what going to happen with Green Arrow

Quite an interesting concept really, funnily enough I was thinking about a the possibility of a futuristic Legend of Zelda game getting made recently (a video game with a definite Robin Hood vibe to it)
  • Thats whats up. Robin Hood in the future shootin up the place...sounds fun.

Being from Denmark, this is really interesting to me. A Danish guy directing a big Hollywood movie.
  • He better have some machine guns in place of the bow and arrow.
  • kzap
I would have thought he was more of a sniper guy.
This could be good, I still have a couple of concerns, I hope it's not too.. Disny-ish?>>

Oh so its like Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century............except with Robin Hood.
  • Some on Peter, you leave me hanging there with the slimmest of hope for Rocket Robin Hood and then you go and crush my dreams... 2 minutes of blissful joy.
