A Nightmare on Elm Street

Warner Bros has sent us high resolution digital files of some of the new posters and photos which premiered last week during Comic-Con. After the jump you will find the poster for the big screen supernatural comic adaptation Jonah Hex, the teaser poster for Platinum Dunes’ A Nightmare on Elm Street and the first teaser photo of Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger. Above is a cropped version of said photo, with the brightness and contrast shifted to give you a better look at Freddy’s new make-up.

Really not that impressed with the Freddy makeup, sure slashfilm says it looks realistic, but that's just their opinion. If you've ever seen a real facial burn, the victims face looks as if it's in a perpetual grimace. Of course you might not be able to have the actor speak, but thats why they created telepathy. I really want a "Nightmare" movie that would scare the shit outta me. I know I'm a bit of a hard sell on these things but this really isn't that much of a deviation. Which is why the series went to shit in the first place.

Megan Fox just looks like she's pretty up for Halloween. haha.
  • abergamo
yeah his face does look like voldemort from sorcerer's stone
  • babyjaypan
for some reason freddy's face reminds me of voldemorts from HP1
  • mbkerr
I don't know if it's the way his face is in the pic or what, but Freddy looks like Lord Voldemort, especially the way he looked on the back of Professor Quirrel's head in The Sorceror's Stone.

Good eye. That's exactly it. Freddy is Quirrell-Head Voldemort. Yes!!!
  • mbkerr
It's an intriguing idea: both are boogeymen of their respective worlds and rely upon the superstition and fear of their victims to fuel their power.

Despite that, I'm gonna demand Rowling take the film to task if the kids start referring to Freddy as "You-Know-Who" and "He Who Must Not Be Named!"

Freddy looks like an alien in the top picture. Also, needs a villainous or creepy smile. There he looks like he's just uninterested.

Jonah Hex... I'm not sure I'm digging it. Brolin's the only one I'm interested with about the movie really. A little of Fox, but not enough for me to watch the movie. Also, yikes! That corset looks sooo painful!

    lame photoshop.
  • For now I have to say that I don't like Freddy's new face. Forget realism, it's a horror film. He doesn't look really evil right now. If I saw him somewhere, I'd feel more pity than fear. But all of this is just based on the one pic, so I need to see more.

Interested in Jonah Hex (and not just for Ms Fox, tho she helps). Be good to see something decent done with a not especially well-known comics character.

Brolin gets the thumbs up from the films I've seen him in, and, as I've only seen Fox in Transformers, for all I know she's fit AND she can act. Despite how teh interwebs haters like to lay into her, playing a running-and-screaming hot girl in a Bay flick does not a good basis for judging acting make, as any fule kno.

Elm Street remake, pass. The original is perfectly good as it is. Changing Freddy's background, and making him far more of a central character than he ever was to the original, really misses the point for me.

I agree. Platinum Dunes seems to possess an uncanny knack for ALWAYS missing the point when it comes to their remakes.

In this new version, introducing the aspect of "Was Freddy guilty or wasn't he?" COMPLETELY misses the point. Freddy should never be an innocent man whose killing out of revenge. That makes him so much LESS of a monster.

It seems like these remakes try so hard to fill in backstory only to have it rob these classic characters of so much of their mystery.

Although it would be an interesting story arc if a man who was burned to death for crimes he didn't commit came back from the dead and actually did those crimes. The idea would be "Since you've already punished me, I'm going to kill your kids anyway."

In the original 'Elm Street' there is the idea that the parents did something justified. What if that were flipped? What if they all turned on this man because he was strange and without proof, they burned him alive. It would raise questions about the nature of justice and revenge.

I'm not saying it's a better solution, but it deserves more than an thoughtless dismissal.

Personally, I like the origin from the pilot episode of 'Freddy's Nightmares' where he drove an ice cream truck and kidnapped kids then took them to the steel mill to torture them. The thought of not just killing, but torturing children has always been the most terrifying thing about Freddy to me. I hope they keep that.

I don't like the look of Jonah Hex's scar. It should be gorier, like Two Face's scar on TDK. But then again, I guess people who aren't familiar with this character would call it a Two Face rip-off.

He looks like a burn victem ive watched all of the nightmares and theyre nothing like this make up wise theyre going for realistic and its gonna be bananas. My most anticipated movie of 2010 nightmare on elm street its seems to be the most exciting movie coming out next year...And yeah its a remake but out of all the remakes this one has the potential to be amazing !
  • eddymovies
Oh, a realistic Nightmare on Elm Street movie. Sweet.
  • Honestly I'm not excited for either per the moment, but maybe a trailer will change that. The Jonah Hex logo I feel they should have gone with the Comic's western look and feel. All that blue and the format of the actually title seems so overly generic to me. Reminds me of Green Hornet and so many other movies. Freddy... I wish looked different too. His ears are melted now and he's tinier... sweet.. zzz.
  • Matt
I can see his face this time. He doesn't look like Freddy Krueger, end of discussion.
  • quintushalls
When will Megan Fox be naked? I'm still waiting!
  • starscream9289
There was a shot of her naked on the trailer they showed at Comic Con. The men in the audience morphed into a pack of wild, horny dogs. Including me.
  • Name
i think Freddy looks too much like Rorschach.
  • Merciful_budah
    Really?!?!

    just...

    Really?!?!
  • disfigured face movies much?
  • haha
  • Brandon
Up in the air until I see a trailer. Megan Fox looks stunning!
  • CheshireAna
I think how small they made her waist look in that corset is a little bit grotesque...
  • Tyler
It's probably pinched a little bit with photoshop.
  • AA5
Wow Freddy better be darker because he looks like an alien. But yet again I still believe that Jackie will take him in a different and viscious dementions, no matter how he looks. Still waiting for better pictures and a clip for better judgement.
  • front page of /film filled with so many sequels and remakes. hollywood needs to get creative.
  • monkeymafia
    and cabbage faces...
  • Matt
Oh whine, p*ss, and moan. "Remakes suck!" "I hate Hollywood!" You're all just a bunch of losers trying to be cool by dissing on whatever is the "in" thing to diss on. Freddy looks like sh*t but don't do the idiotic "waaahhhh remakes suck" thing for f***'s sake.
  • Merciful_budah
It's never whining until someone writes a post calling everyone else losers. Up until that point it's a discussion.

Also how can you tell he looks bad? Even with the cropped and edited picture I still can't gleam much of a difference from the Englund years yet.
  • you should calm down, obviously you're whining now.
  • quintushalls
    Have you seen Moon?
  • yes.
  • Zinc
Oh, I forgot to mention, Chris Nolan's new film nobody has a clue what is about.
  • Zinc
Two very original movies are coming out soon, District 9 and Avatar.
  • and those movies all have the right idea.
  • Dan
    why?
  • because. some people like things to be fresh, not looked at from a different view.
