Iron Man 2

Jon Favreau premiered a sizzle reel for Iron Man 2 during the film’s Hall H panel. You can read a description of the footage after the jump.

Tony Stark is eating a donut while laying in the hole of the huge donut on the roof of Randy’s Donuts. Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury yells up “Sir, I’m gonna have to ask you to exit the donut!”

Cut to: Stark and Fury inside the restaurant eating and chatting. Stark asks if Fury was going to ask him to join his group again, to which Nick responds “I remember, you do everything yourself. How is that working out for you?” Stark asks Fury if he is supossed to look at his working eye or the eye patch.

Cut to: A government court hearing, where Tony is talking with Pepper Potts a few rows behind him. Senator Stern Asks Tony if he posseses a weapon, the iron man weapon. Stark says that its not a weapon, and that technically it’s a high tech prosthesis.

“Its a weapon Mr Stark!

“If your priority was to protect…”

“Well you can forget it!”

“I am Iron Man, the suit and I am one. You cant have it!”

The Senator calls Rhodey to the stand. Rhodey walks by Stark and tells him he’ll deal with it.

The Senator asks Stark what his point is and Stark responds that his point is “You’re welcome, I’m your nuclear deterrent,” … “I’ve kept the world safe, what more do you want? I tried to play ball with these ass clowns!” The Senator then says “F— You Mr. Stark!”

A montage begins with shots of newspapers and magazines with Stark on the cover. Voice over in a Russian accent “You come from a family of thieves and butchers…” Shots of Rourke putting together his whiplash suit. A bunch of random shots, including a bunch of girls dancing in front of a display with the American flag, and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, kicking ass. Rourke arrives at the race car track in his Whiplash suit. He activates it and the wires light up with electricity as he whips them around. Stark is bloody, in his racing suit, down on the concrete. We see a close-up of Rourke laughing.

Cut to: Iron Man flying through the night air, dodging missiles which explode behind him, as he blasts towards Earth.

The Iron Man 2 logo appears on the screen, along with the music.

Then we get an extra sequence. Rhodey in a air plane hanger. Justin Hammer walks over and asks what this is about and Rhodey says it’s classified. Hammer looks down at a suit, which appears to be Stark’s old Mark II armor. “Is that what I think it is?” “What can you do for us?” Hammer shows Rhodey a bunch of different weaponry. Rhodey tells Hammer “I think i’ll take it.” “Which one?” “All of it.” Cut to: A shot of War Machine blasting off his guns.

  • This seems amazing. I trust Favreau and Theroux to the utmost and cannot wait for this movie.

The word "Fuck" in a Marvel Superhero movie? I mean, I know it can still get a PG-13 that way, but...whoa!
  • thrillhouse
Unless that was just a hyperbolic description of what the senator's tone was...
  • Allm0st
Um I am pretty sure it has been used in a Marvel Superhero comic. Considering I use to collect comics I am positive I have read the word fuck in a comic by Marvel. Not exactly a kids comic but the entertainment industry has changed and the word fuck in a PG-13 movie is still acceptable.

Half-Blood Prince got PG and it had blood, disturbing images and a death scene. Sorry but I just don't see where the shock is coming from is all.
  • thrillhouse
Yeah, maybe in a Marvel Max (or Knights, or whatever the hell they called their more "adult" line), but never in a mainstream Marvel comic. I guarantee you've never seen it in the regular "Iron Man" comic.

And furthermore, do you read? I already said that I knew it would still maintain a PG-13 rating. I'm just surprised that Marvel would let this slide, when they market the movie to kids and rely on kids for about half of their demographic.

I know the industry is changing, but if you look at Marvel's comic books, they use random symbols "&%*@!!!" to replace curse words that are even tamer than "Fuck" - or they simply black bar them out.

I'm not shocked by the word. I really don't care who is offended. I'm merely surprised.

So I don't think it should surprise you so much that I am wondering whether Marvel is going to let this fly or not. I mean, there is ZERO precedent for this.
  • thrillhouse
But now I see that I guess there was a "fuck" in Transformers 2? Well, color me even more surprised, because that was even MORE targeted toward kids than Iron Man will be.

So I apologize for saying there is zero precedent. Unless the T2 thing is incorrect (I never saw the awful movie, so I wouldn't know).

    Who knows?! ^_^

Like I said, I'm not offended or shocked. I'm just surprised that we got to this point, much less without a bigger fuss really being made about it.
  • pretty sure The Punisher had Fuck a bunch of times in it.
  • thrillhouse
The movie? That was a cold, hard revenge movie intended to be rated-R and NOT marketed to kids. You didn't see Punisher cartoons with the movie being advertised during commercial time. You didn't see action figures (in the mainstream toy section at your local department store) marketed to kids for Punisher.

Iron Man is a whole different animal.

Come on, that's not even a decent argument. You HAVE to see the difference here.

And if you're talking about the comic, then you should also know that THAT particular Punisher comic was Punisher "Max" which was an Adult's only comic.

It doesn't matter anyway, because AICN basically just confirmed that the "fuck"s are bleeped, because they show it as a CNN-style news item.

Had a quick question: is this going to be rated PG-13 or R, because with the remark "Fuck you Mr. Stark!" , I'm thinking the latter. But after seeing Transformers 2, I really don't know anymore. And thanks for the awesome coverage guys!
  • NoNameGiven92
There is a certain number of times you can say the word "fuck" and still retain a PG-13 rating, and simply saying "fuck you" won't earn you an R. However, if you use it in a sexual sense, such as "Did you fuck her?" or "I wanna fuck you." that automatically guarantees an R rating.
  • MickJ
Haha, straight out of This Film Is Not Yet Rated.
  • odd, T2 got what, a pg-13 and wasn't he using it in a sexual sense?
"i wear it before i fuck."
or was that just a misquote?
  • samboni
    it was rated R
  • transformers 2, the jock-strap scene. not terminator 2. transformers 2 did get a pg 13.
  • we have f bomb!
    fuck yes!
  • Sounds Awesome!
  • filmbuffrich
One F-bomb will get you a PG-13, more than that is an automatic R though.

And really, a Senator saying "Fuck" during a public hearing. Who does he think he is, Dick Cheney?
  • clarencesomerset
Wait a minute - War Machine is Justin Hammers' suit for Rhodey????
  • Danisgod6491
I'm sure it has to do with the court hearing about the goverment wanting to the Iron Man tech for War, hence why it will be called War Machine in the movie.
  • [A]
I saw screencaps of it. Bad-ass.
  • starscream9289
Where exactly did you see said screencaps?
  • Yoji
Well, I have a so so pic in a link I've found somewhere, but I'm not sure if that's against the rules here or if it's illegal in someway.
  • Yoji
Ah, what the hell. Not my picture anyways.

  • Danisgod6491
Go ahead, it was used on marvel own site. Someone leaked the Whiplash pic on there.
  • Yoji
    Eh, keeps getting moderated.
  • josematamoros
I was there and it was awesome. It was even more awesome when don cheadle asked to play it again. Could be. The best footage I've seen at comic con.
  • Hopefully I like it better than I did the first. Or almost all marvel movies.
  • ryantherusskie
The f-bomb is bleeped out, because it is being shown through a C-SPAN/CNN feed in the movie.
  • josematamoros
They bleped out all the cursing from all the clipsthat were shown. Like in extract they bleeped out shit and mfer. So the CNN thing isn't y it was bleeped.
  • starscream9289
Didn't they use the F-word in Terminator 4? And that was rated PG-13. Or is it just me?
  • thrillhouse
Yes - we've established that you can say Fuck in a PG-13 movie (hell, it USED to be PG movies - "Nice FUCKIN' model!!!" *Grabs crotch* HONK!)

But I was merely surprised that Marvel themselves would allow it in a PG-13 movie that was likely going to be marketed to kids, as its predecessor was.

But yes, the MPAA would allow a "fuck" in there.
  • krackajap
As long as it's not used in a sexual way.
  • Josh
Johansson is a terrible actress. Why did they have to go with her?
  • Brandon

The shit is going to hit the fan if this gets a PG-13 rating with the word "Fuck"
  • RufusFirefly13
I believe I read somewhere that you can use the word fuck in that manner one time and still get a PG-13 rating. Now if you use it in the sexual sense than that's a different story.

That's why I was hoping Homer would have told Flanders to "shut the fuck up, Flanders" in the Simpson's Movie. :)
  • Steelo
you're allowed one "fuck" in a PG-13 movie. That's usually considered the extreme
