Where The Wild Things Are

Yesterday, we saw about 10 minutes of footage from Spike Jonze’s Where The Wild Things Are. Russ wrote up a description and some reactions here, but what we saw was so powerful that me Peter and I felt we had to record a video blog to get all our thoughts out on it. Hit the jump for some of our reactions, but in short, Where The Wild Things are has been the most beautiful thing we’ve seen at Comic-Con so far. My anticipation for the film has gone through the roof, although my only fear is that the film won’t live up to the footage. Somehow, though, I have faith that Jonze will pull this off and deliver us a take on Sendak’s classic book that is entrancing, moving, and extremely inventive.

I hope to God this catches on, it sounds absolutely fantastic.

I read the book a lot as a kid and after seeing the trailer for the movie, more then once of course, I can say that I'm really looking forward to seeing it. I know its going to be great and to hear you guys liked it just makes me want to see it that much more.
  • Repeat from previous post: I have the feeling that this film will be viewed as a pure cinematic achievement. As it is, if memory serves, the book is fairly simple, but the breadth that Jonze and crew seem to be aiming towards seems monumental and fantastic. The source material is so pure and Jonze is a visionary director so I don't see how I could possibly be disappointed.

i didn't think it was possible, but you got me even more excited for this movie.

The trailer consistently gets me choked up. I'm afraid to see this in theaters now. I'm worried I'm just going to cry the entire time. lol

I had the same thought when I saw the trailer attached to Harry Potter the other day. I think it's got something to do with feeling older now but remembering how much I liked this little book as a kid. Putting it in few words, I'm going to have to be careful who I choose to see this film with.

So glad to hear this. Really excited for this
  • This trailer was so good, I wasn't sure that the film could hold up to it, but after hearing this, it secures this movie's spot as the movie I'm looking forward to most this year.

The Cinematography looks amazing as well as the indie feel of the trailer. Jonze really is a throwback and his work just looks stunning.

    This sounds amazing.

And it will probably join Watchmen, Observe and Report, and Half Blood Prince in the "What the hell was Warner Bros thinking?/But thank God they went for it/This won't be appreciated until years from now" type of films of 2009.

Honestly, Warner Bros has had my support for the past decade now. For a major studio, they let the creators (directors, writers, etc.) have (almost) all of the creative freedom, and it has paid off. Warner Bros is the exact opposite of Fox. I actually refrain from seeing films made by Fox now (this does not include Fox Atomic), just because Fox made them.
My only real problem with the WB, is that they need to make more comic book films from their ownership over DC. But it looks like they are taking a step in that direction with Green Lantern (my personal favorite comic book character) and possible Flash and Wonder Woman live action films; to go along with the Batman and Superman (please make another with Singer and Routh) franchises.
